Is that Osprey backpack not hundreds of dollars? And she uses it to sit in the corner to hold things she hopes to never have to use?

I always find that Utah Youtube Mormons have an air of superiority about them when showing their emergency preparedness. Like "look how prepared we are, I bet you'll wish you did this when the time comes". Even with the Covid shortages, it wasn't an attitude of help-thy-neighbor it was all "oh look we were smart all along to do this too bad you weren't". In reality some of the stuff they have in those things is way too expensive for a lot of families to be able to afford when it's not an immediate need. (I know not all mormons or Utah mormons are assholes like this, it takes a special type of narcissist to be on Youtube.)

This is all a game and a shopping excursion for Ruby.

Also, Chad had none of this when his mother chose to make him live in the wilderness for several months in a non-emergency.

I was just thinking of him and wondered if he was allowed to use the schoolroom mattress when he was in covid quarantine or is he back to sleeping on the bean bag.

He may be the second oldest child, but he's at the tail end when it comes to stuff like his own bed to sleep on. And it's not like his parents cannot afford to replace the window well flood damaged mattress. At this point I highly doubt they've made his bedroom liveable again. Said it before and I'll say it again, Chad is the household scapegoat.

If I had such a controversy like they did with Chad, I would do anything to prove and show my viewers that my kid is taken care of.

Have they addressed the Chad's living conditions at all after the flooding? If not, wondering why not?
As I said, I would do anything to prove that I'm a good parent and not abusive one. Them not addressing it, makes me just wonder what they are hiding. Like they hid the no-bed punishment for 7 months!

Exactly. I know when the controversy happened I was hopeful that the one good thing that might come out of it is that they might try to treat Chad slightly better. Even if it was just for camera and to put on a good front, I thought at least he might get something out of it. It's so obvious that they've learned absolutely nothing, though. I'm sure they've gotten lots of questions about Chad's bedroom and where he's sleeping, but they're completely ignoring it. They are at least smart enough to not show him sleeping on the floor or on the couch or something, but it's very telling that they haven't said a word about fixing his room or gave a new room tour post-flood. Just crazy that even after all this they are so confident that they did nothing wrong and that they don't have to change, that they won't even fix his bedroom. Not even to keep their viewers from questioning them or to prove that they don't mistreat Chad. Even looking good for the vlogs isn't enough for them to treat Chad semi-decent. How awful.

Also, what happened to the game table that they were buying??? They made a whole vlog to show them being great parents and promising to cover the full cost of the game table that Chad wanted. That was quite a while ago. It was the "Job Interview" vlog that was posted on July 16th. I haven't seen any sign of a game table. They've had plenty of time to buy and show off the brand new school rooms, beds, mini fridges, and hot tubs for the homeschool kids, but no game table for Chad. They are so freaking fake. Literally making a whole vlog to show how good they are and are buying him a game table, and then not even buying it for him.

My guess is that they retracted the offer because they're punishing Scapegoat Chad for not wanting to be homeschooled by his narcissistic idiot of a mother. IMHO he wants to be away from her as much as possible and if that's the case, who can blame him? I wouldn't want to spend my days with Ruby either.

They have a pool table. It was in one of her IG stories this week I believe.

This might just be me, but is anyone else slightly confused as to why they have these packs and all this "survival" type gear? I understand some of it would definitely be good if you're going camping/hiking/travelling through extremely remote places but I just can't seem to imagine a scenario when they would need it.

I guess I'm not very familiar with Utah as I'm from Australia, but even if there was a fire and/or earthquake, I'm assuming you still wouldn't need to camp in the wilderness for up to three days? Australia has some of the worst fires, but even then no one has a pack like this. Having a basic first aid kit, as well as slab of water would definitely be smart thinking, but surely if you have enough time to grab all these packs, you have enough time to get in the car right? And from there you should be able to drive elsewhere or to a shelter.

I really don't know, but if someone could further clarify their need for this stuff in the event of an emergency, that would be greatly appreciated.

I believe in her LDS faith they are taught this. To prepare for crisis. I may be wrong though

Yep, it's 100% faith based. Basically if you belive what their scripture teaches you will survive, but the physical piece may be difficult hence having a food storage and pack of gear to grab and go is a mainstay. I think the shortages the grocery stores were having in the beginning of covid was a boost for their morale..."see, we are superior as we have 9000 rolls of toilet paper and boxes of dried food to eat."

There are many religions over the world that all have different ideas of what will happen to those who are true believers vs those who are not. I think Mormons in the US have ready access to cheap food more than others in other countries where the income is lower and there is not prosperity.

I'm surprised Russell is still doing that exaggerated, falling-to-the-floor laugh as seen in today's vlog. He was doing it a couple of years ago, and you'd think he would grow out of it by now.

Yes preparedness is definitely a church teaching. I believe it is for "apocalyptic" disasters not more typical natural disasters. Also one of the goals is to help you have your own needs taken care of so that you can help others (and share from your stock). I actually appreciate that sentiment. However, most of the people I've seen who practice this are self - obsessed YouTubers who only care about themselves.

Their channel views have not recovered to their baseline before being accused of child abuse and Ruby doesn’t see brand deals at all now. Is Ruby still writing a parenting book that seems a bit ironic with the negative publicity she has received.

I was thinking while witnessing it this morning, definitely an intentional attention grabber. Focus was on Eve, and how can anyone not turn their attention to Russell when he is acting like this.

Totally. I think people hesitate to say something about how over the top it is because we'd eat our words if it was actually necessary some day lol. But realistically they are over the top with it, and I think for these mormon youtubers who show it off it is, like I said previously, a fun shopping game for them. Like some of the stuff they have is cool! But totally unnecessary and will never be used. And I'm prepared to eat my words if I'm wrong. Basically if Ruby was ever in a survival situation, which is highly unlikely, she couldn't live without totally unnecessary comforts. Did she even has masks in there for fires? I didn't see any but maybe I missed it. But she sure had candy and the ability to filter 24,000 gallons of water each.

I think being prepared for emergencies is smart. But rich Ruby is never going to need or use any of this. This was for her shopping addiction, video, and image. Their religion tells them to do it and they're probably trying to outdo all their mormon friends. No way would she EVER help others in a survival situation, especially strangers, it would be all "well we were prepared, why weren't you?"

I agree that they don't need the chickens. it will be up to the kids to take care of them as the parents won't do it and will make it part of their homeschool to take care of the chickens.

It's definitely worrying to me that he's been keeping this up for years. I've been following 8 Passengers for at least a couple years now and I really can't say that I've detected any difference in Russell's behavior throughout the years. He just really isn't maturing or outgrowing any of his weird quirks, especially in comparison to Eve. With Eve I can see a notable difference lately. I can tell she's growing up and maturing. She's mostly stopped with the baby talk, pouting faces, lying, acting wild, and doing bizarre things. She's still manipulative and a bit spoiled, but she's outgrown a lot of the concerning behaviors she had before. Russell not so much. I think it's gotten to the point that Russell acts younger than Eve lately, even though he's two years older. I just worry about him in the future. Imagine him hanging out with a group of fellow 9 year old boys and he starts doing that laugh and throwing himself on the ground every time something happens that isn't even remotely funny. Of course, with him being homeschooled, his parents not correcting his behavior, and his only friend being his seven year old sister, I don't really know how he's suppose to learn or know how to act in social situations and how to start maturing.

Sad to say but, Russell is going to have his ass beat on the regular from other boys if he continues to act like a clown. Kids look for that kind of weak link. Kids are brutal.

And homeschooling is only going to make it worse.
It's good that Eve has matured some. Hopefully homeschooling won't take away all the progress she's made.
Those younger kids desperately need socialization. Even at the fancy bubble Mormon school. At least there were some non YT kids there so they could see what "normal" looked like.
