I’m disgusted by the comments here recently. Snark all you like about their parenting and odd behaviour. But to criticise them eating and sleeping while Cassidy is in theatre seems awful. I agree that I wouldn’t be choosing to put those pictures up for the world to see, but I am not a YouTuber, whose whole life is documented for an income. This is their reality and this is how they have chosen to do it.
My heart aches for the whole family. Having to leave the other 2 at home must be hard. Watching my baby be worked on in a critical state was the worst thing I have ever been through and I wouldn’t ever wish that on anyone.

I hope they are all ok.

Photo is worse than the one Brittany Boren had after her baby passes away

Sorry, now i don't understand. To what photo are you referring here? Are you comparing the Alex sitting down looking defeated to the one of B. Boren sitting on the bathroom floor after the death of her child?

IMO the photo of B. Boren was way more distasteful than this one, if those are the ones you are comparing.
no worries . what i am saying is that I do not mind seeing the photo of Alex , who she does look indeed defeated and tired and worried.

But when I saw the photo of B Boren I was much more disturbed.
Personally I agree that those type of photos should be private for the family, not to be put up in social media, however since they decided to do, I am only saying that Alex photo does not bother me so much, cause according to her body language and again maybe I am wrong here she does seems really worried and stressed.

At the end of the day, I know its hard, but I do not care about Alex anymore, I just want baby Cassidy to be safe.

I dont know how anyone of sound mind can even think of whipping their phone out to take ANY photos in a hospital (except of course in labour and delivery). And if you do choose to do that, keep them off public social media.

So phils on one side of the room, alex is on the other and the medical team are working on cassidy and he whips his phone out to take a photo of his “devastated” wife?? Who thinks like that? “Oh this would be good for the gram”.

Im surprised alex hasnt taken a photo of cassidys incision site to show, or the leur in her hand yet. Its only a matter of time of course and she has to get her beauty sleep first. Image
I can actually understand them taking pictures. Many normal non-vlogging people take photos in a hospital for memories, and not only in L&D. And because they have been sharing this online for the community I also think it is only ''fair'' to share how things are going because they have made people invested in them.

However, I wouldn't have taken that kind of picture of my spouse sitting nor even thought of taking one like that. On other hands that feels like one of the few photos, where I think Alex's emotions are real.

And when it comes to Alex's sleep, I think it is really exhausting to wait for hours on end to see how things turn out and you not able to do anything to help your baby. The absolute feeling of helplessness. So finally when Cassidy is stable, what she is supposed to do? Stay awake entire week in order to show how devoted mother she is? Be real.

Agreed. Trying to remind myself of all the horrible things people said to Chrissy Tiegen for posting pictures of her tragedy being met with a million more positive comments. Ultimately these people are influencers, they photograph and record everything...it’s not unusual for them to share intimate stuff. It’s actually appreciated that they are keeping followers somewhat in the loop and thus far she’s protected Cassie’s privacy by not just outright showing her in a vulnerable position (we’ll see how long that last). I’m not judging them for eating or sleeping because they just went through what was surely the most stressful day of their entire freaking lives. Sometimes I stress eat to, and they were facing an incredibly long surgery so it’s good to keep their energy up. Another picture of the day showed them just in the hospital garden being appreciative of the outdoor space, it’s not like they were galavanting around town all day. Then imagine the emotional and physical exhaustion of watching your baby go though that and probably hardly sleeping the nights leading up to it. It’s not surprising to eventually crash and it is good to try to get some rest because who knows if she could have another emergency complication. Cassidy is sedated and has one to one nursing right now watching over her. Everyone here wants to have all this compassion for Cassidy but none for her parents as if they aren’t living an absolute nightmare too.

I get what you guys are saying about taking pictures... everyone takes pictures. Some even post them for the world to see!
However, let us not forget that they are directly profiting from this.
Maybe if they turned off monetization on their YouTube videos featuring the surgery, I’d think better of them. That would prove that they are simply wanting to share their experiences and be advocates. But you know that is not the case.

Just wait for more sponsored posts on their Instagram with their children. Ick.

Side note, I’m glad that Cassidy is stable. Poor thing. <3

Just wondering how they got ANY shot of cassie if the medical team was working on her. Wouldn’t ANY parent get the hell out of the room so the drs can do their job.. to save your daughter’s LIFE??

I don’t understand this either? Like why let them in the room in the first place? Maybe Cassidy wasn’t reopened and they did a different procedure to drain the fluid?

Also, is that room Cassidy is in a seperate room? Is that normal in the US? Here in Australia in ICU we have ‘bays’ with a curtain you can pull across but everyone is in the same room

From what I gathered (and I just looked briefly) they had a moment with Cassidy once they got to her room and while the staff got ready to do the emergency procedure. Once it came time to actually do it they asked Phil and Alex to leave the room again.

I’m curious about this too lol. Now I haven’t been in an ICU with anyone in 10 yrs so things may have changed. Or it’s different with children/babies. But ICU in the states is a bay, walls usually on three sides and a curtain to close (when needed) or a bay door. No room for a bed, you’re lucky to get a chair to sit on.

ETA: I’m confusing hospitals... we were in a smaller hospital in Fort Lauderdale (I believe). I don’t remember if we were in the ICU at the Mayo Clinic. If so, it was roomier and had room for a bed (Futon) and at least three reclining chairs.

I think mostly people aren't surprised that Alex ate food, it's just that she posted the beautiful photo of the breakfast, like you would post on any Sunday brunch with friends. It seems very strange given her situation. I think the majority of us agree that they need to eat. Some people might not be able to eat much at all at that time but the bigger problem here is how she was basically flaunting it.

And it's not just this one thing, it's a pattern of behaviour that fits with her narcissism.

I remember trying to eat when I had a young loved one possibly dying in hospital. I had zero appetite but somebody was basically force feeding me in the cafeteria. I couldn't even taste anything, I desperately didn't want to eat. I did anyway because it'd been over 24 hours without food, but that's kind of irrelevant. I was only half there mentally, my mind was so fuckin preoccupied with the other person. I can't imagine getting my phone out to even check my texts let alone take a photo of my fancy breakfast spread (not what I was eating lol) and post it on Instagram. That takes a certain level of wherewithal and emotional capacity that I'm struggling to get my head around. I know you have time, but time really means nothing when your whole world is away getting possibly fatal but necessary surgery. It's all you can think about. Unless, idk, you're a narcissist and the suffering of others doesn't really hit you that deeply.

I’m assuming they were filming for a vlog. So, that can still be just as bad, but idk that he had the time to think, “omg something horrific is happening! Let me get my phone out and take a photo of Alex looking sad.” Or whatever.
I think a camera was already out.

That's a good point. I think most of us balk at the photos because it seems so bizarre to be posting pictures and videos in a crisis. Its such a different mindset.
When my little one fell against a door and sliced her head open, I took a picture to send to my husband to make sure I was correct she'd need stitches (it was at the beginning of covid so I really didn't want to take her if it wasn't absolutely necessary). I was anxious until I got a photo of her happily playing with a barbie from the nurse and posted that a while later with a quick rundown for our family. I've never posted the first, it just feels wrong. I didn't post selfies or timed photos of me waiting around looking concerned, etc. I know its a vastly different situation obviously but you get the point. The YouTuber brain is wired very differently in that they film and post everything (and, I'm sure, see dollar signs in certain scenarios).

I'm in Australia too in the healthcare industry and all the ICU's I've seen a bays. But I've have had an unfortunate personal experience with Walter-Reed Bethesda Medical, and I was shocked to see that they had 50 individual rooms. Big ones. Lots of space. They only gave you a plastic chair but you could have fit 3 beds in there. I think their motive was so they could just shove veterans in private rooms where they couldn't bother people, and tie them to the bed to make sure they wouldn't fall or pull on any device while their nurse was tending to a patient down the hall. And this ICU was brand new at the time I was there (it was still Bethesda Naval, but preparing to merge with Walter Reed). So I would imagine some other hospitals would have rooms too, not bays.

I also think it's more likely that her procedure was related to a chest tube of some sort. They may not have closed off her sternum yet so possibly went in that way, but trust P&A to make it out like she was having repeat open-heart bypass surgery in the NICU.

It's possible some of the new NICU's in Australia have private rooms. I feel like I've seen photos somewhere.

I also was thinking the drs just used a needle to aspirate the fluid or blood. Which IMO can be done in the room. But my medical knowledge is limited and with her fresh out of surgery anything was possible. But my gut is with a needle and not re-opening the incision.

IG is deafening quiet this morning. Not even a quick update on how she did overnight after all the hoopla last night. NO ONE sleeps in the ICU. you definitely do not get a good night’s rest that’s one thing I can say for sure. So for them to be quiet is annoying af. Just for the dramatic effect I’m sure.

It's her pattern of behavior around it all. It's showing how narcissistic she truly is. I believe Phil misses C&K, but I can't say I feel the same for Alex. My child was in the hospital a few years ago with nothing as serious as what Cass just went through. The whole 4 days they were there I got maybe an hour or two of sleep a night. Between the nurses coming in and just the sheer worry. Had a normal parent walked into the ICU after a serious heart surgery and they are preforming a bedside procedure, a normal parent sleep wouldn't even cross their mind. They would be running on pure adrenaline most likely for at least a day before crashing.

In the US it depends on the hospital and how old or how much money the hospital brings in to be able to renovate rooms. Typical US hospitals all rooms are single rooms for privacy reasons. There are huge medical privacy laws in the US. I worked at a front desk at a hospital in the past. I had to sign a lot of paperwork about keeping people's privacy, even those I knew. If I saw a friend come in for whatever reason and I was working, I couldn't even say I saw them at the hospital unless they mentioned they saw me. My mother in law is a nurse and was shocked when I was in a small town hospital years ago and had to share a room due to lack of privacy.

When my child was in the hospital, they were in a large private room (same size as all the rooms on the floor) at a children's hospital. Both adult and children's ICUs (in newer hospitals) are three walls with the 4th wall a wall of glass doors/windows with a curtain on them. They can quickly open the doors to get the bed out when needed, but have privacy. NICUs typically are bays, with a few private rooms for babies that are super serious or contagious. The NICUs are typically only meant for up to 3 to 4 adults to be in temporarily with two chairs for parents. Such as when my oldest was in the NICU my husband and I could be in the bay, we could have up to two other people in there for 10 min at a time to see the baby. Pediatric ICU and NICU are also two different things in the US. NICU is only for newborns. Once they leave the hospital and have to come back the would go to the PICU (pediatric ICU).

I agree. I'm just hoping it's not some attention getting dramatic thing for Alex of people flooding her "praying" for Cass. Then she'll pop up with the million screen shots again.
