Turin's costume is definitely not okay. Unless you are from the culture you have no right to excuse it. You don't have to step out and say it's wrong if you don't want to, but you can't defend cultural appropriation unless the culture being appropriated is yours. You can stay silent or you can say, 'Hi this may not be the best costume for your white son because of __' or link to educational resources.
It seems like now (in the past day) more people are commenting on the post about the issue. I hope they read those comments and look into cultural appropriation and try to educate themselves and realise that someone's culture and history is not a halloween costume.

There are many white men that have long dreadlocks. So I dont see nothing wrong with the costume. Its like many black women who wear long blonde wigs. Many whites live in the Jamaican culture. So stop all the comments about it. To me is hypocritical.lurkerthatposts wrote:Turin's costume is definitely not okay. Unless you are from the culture you have no right to excuse it. Perhaps you need to go and search the history and symbolism of dreadlocks. If you do, you will see they are very old and specific part of black history and culture.SweetiePie60 wrote: There are many white men that have long dreadlocks. Their origin is not in Jamaican culture but African - more specifically Kenyan?
The hat that Turin is wearing, I think, is associated with Rastafarianism which developed in Jamaica but is also based on African culture. It is a social and religious movement.
If white people have dreadlocks they should not be doing it as a representation of Jamaican culture.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a black person wearing a blonde wig. Blonde hair is not specific to any particular culture.
If you’re going to try to justify something, try to understand what you’re trying to justify.
I don’t want to get into arguments about race here with anyone. I am very aware that as a white person, I can’t speak for a black person. However, people need to be more educated about the issues others are facing and not dismiss them.

People need to get over it! I still think there was nothing wrong with Turin wearing his costume! How about the kids that want to dress up as an indian? But no its not their culture to do that! Ill tell little girls who want to dress up as cartoon princess they can’t because there not real. Or little boys as pirates! How about kids dressing up as a policeman. They’ll probably get bullied! So please stop with the cultural rant.MervelllaB wrote:Perhaps you need to go and search the history and symbolism of dreadlocks. What are you even talking about? Go defend them on their instagram since you seem to love them so much. This is a gossip rant website. As in, a website to complain and discuss the things these parents do. Guess what? One of those is that these parents aren't educated on what is/isn't appropriate to wear as a halloween costume, and we're complaining about that here. Because that's what this website is for. You can say 'I don't see an issue with it' but that's literally not the point of people having a conversation here.
Maybe I don't see the problem with Mindy buying 10 different couches in a year. Maybe I think that's completely practical and that's something I also do. But that's not what this forum is for, that's what her instagram and youtube comments are for. Some people see an issue and want to complain about it here, as that is the purpose of this website.
Act like the adult you should be on this website and don't shut down people's complaints simply because you don't see the issue. You are not the police of discussion, unless you're a mod in disguise?

We can say nice things too on which many have done so on here.lurkerthatposts wrote:SweetiePie60 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 03, 2020 2:58 pmPeople need to get over it! Plus, comparing dressing up as a princess or a police officer with dressing as a Rastafarian are apples and oranges-- two totally different things.lurkerthatposts wrote:SweetiePie60 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 03, 2020 2:58 pmPeople need to get over it! If you don't see an issue with it, that's fine. You're allowed your opinion. We've had a very civil discussion about it. That's another reason we come here. Not just to complain, but to be able to discuss things without Bingham superfans attacking us.
And yes, dressing up "like an Indian" is cultural appropriation of Native American culture. There are lots of tribes. Most "Indian" costumes aren't accurate, and unless you're talking about dressing as someone from the country of India (which is problematic too- my brother in law is Indian and he dresses like any other London businessman)

Your rant was taken well by me. Im no superfan for sure. I was referring to the American Indian. I see your point. I didn’t see it as cultural, I saw it as a costume for a once a year dress up day! Off-topic, so feel free to scroll by:
For me, it's not about being "butt hurt" as much as respecting the culture. Native American "costumes" for Halloween just generally aren't accurate, and it disrespects the cultures. I know it's just a kid dressing up for one night, but we need to teach our kids to respect other cultures. Otherwise the problem just gets passed to the next generation.
I had a long rant about the damage done to Native Americans, by whites and white and especially the history in Utah, but it's way OT.
To bring it back to the Binghams, they just need to open their eyes and learn about the world around them. Like when they were in Hawaii, they didn't learn anything about the native culture. Going to a luau doesn't count.

Their house tour was so dumb. It just looks like a normal poorly decorated family home with some nice kitchen tile and appliances. That's it.
Also! What the heck happened to Mindy over the years?? Her clothing style and hair was so cute and now she's just got these baggy, monochromatic clothes and orange stringy hair. I didn't realize how muddy and washed out the warm colors she wears make her look until I saw her in that black and white striped top.

The house tour was dumb, but the flashback clips really showed how much they have changed (and NOT for the better.)

This makes me nuts. They use the term "renovation" loosely as well. Gets more views than "redecorate". Just like "toddler broken arm" gets more views than "preschooler broken arm". Sick that they are thinking of that while posting a video about their child's broken arm...jenlynnkc1 wrote:Okay would someone please explain to them the difference between- REMODEL & REDECORATE!!! Why does there always have to be a picture of Hazyl in the other children's birthday posts? Mindy can't give her boys her full attention even on their birthdays.

Just saw the thumbnail for their latest vlog - This is epic (Was it not rad or savage - poor them lol). Seriously though - how on earth are their kids (and any other kids in similar situations) meant to cope when they eventually live in the real world dealing with day to day things. Life isn't generally lived with such hype all of the time - when that is gone they are set up with struggling to cope and depression. I guess if they stay in Utah they stay in their very ignorant bubble, but a whole real world is out there and people need to be able to deal with it and live in it. Madi is the only one of them currently with real life skills and abilities.

Curious what it takes to get not one but two drinks names after you. How much money did they have to pay?

Is it okay to ask in this thread if there is a thread for one on the other Bingham lot - Jared and Britt? I watched them for a while as to start off with they seemed really sweet and wholesome, but gave up when they went down the road of money-making click bait and the endless house hunting vlogs (Did they ever actually buy one?). I also felt uncomfortable (and worried for them) with the getting ready to start a family vlogs. It seemed to indicate that they were either naive or arrogant about the possibilities of taking time to conceive, infertility, miscarriages etc?

They don’t have their own thread. We basically talk about all the siblings here as well.Hyacinth wrote:Is it okay to ask in this thread if there is a thread for one on the other Bingham lot - Jared and Britt? No, they haven’t bought a house yet. They are hinting at a big vlog in the horizon that they’re clearly trying to clickbait and make people think it’s a baby and/or house. Of course they’ll draw it out forever as they always do. They’re beyond dull and their never ending house hunt is absurd.

So 20,000 more vlogs about house hunting lol? I really don't know why they went down the click bait route - advice from Brandon to make everything way more epic lol? Have their views dropped overall? (I haven't watched them in ages)JD386 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 7:32 pmThey don’t have their own thread.
