The freeze drying thing is making me angrier and angrier (which Ruby will read and then increase it tenfold because she'd love to hear that - I should shut up really). But holy shit when was the last time she fed her family a meal where they each got their own steak?? We'd know because it would be such an occasion she would be sure to show it. Yet she can cook so many of them just to freeze dry them so that when the world is ending she can sit in her basement cackling to herself that her neighbors are dying around her because 50 years previously they didn't freeze dry more food than their families were allowed to eat. The older kids must be totally gobsmacked by it, seeing all the good stuff being freeze dried that they'll never get to see again compared to the food they are fed here and now. Unbelievable.
And yup, it sure seems like Ruby's homeschool obsession phase is over.

Re: 8 Passengers: No beds, no food, but mom loves motherhood! | Part 18
There is something very off with the bank savings account. Banks are fairly good at catching unusual activity in an account or fraudulent activity. If she reported it within sixty days, they are liable and investigate the claim. Yes, you also report it to the police. Was it really 200K in her savings. No one nonchalantly loses that amount of money.
Comments are stating "if it was true fraud." The way she described the situation, it was as if the bank gave the impression she did something with the account?

I agree. Banks have 100% of the time caught any fraud on my accounts and called me about it before I even noticed. The funds were immediately returned upon my verbal confirmation that their fraud suspicion was accurate. I also travelled incessantly for about a decade, and for the first year, my accounts would be shut down pretty regularly guarding against the potential of fraud (until they understood that it was normal to access my card in China, the next day the Philippines, etc.). I was almost refused access to my Chinese account when I moved back to the states, just because my signature didn't match anymore. Heck, even Amazon has refunded me $300 in stolen funds without any hassle. Banks are not in the business of letting fraud slide.YTIG60 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 8:23 pmThere is something very off with the bank savings account. Her bank really sucks, or she is a liar. I feel like I said the same thing about the Griffiths' doctors, and we all saw how that turned out. Unless she names and shames the bank who refused to refund her stolen life savings, I will never believe her story. She should be warning everyone about the massive holes in their fraud detection/resolution programs.
I estimated Shari's "life savings" at $200k because she specifically said it was enough to "cover college", which is just about $200k in 2020 for a good private school tuition with all the associated costs. Even if it she was banking on BYU only, it would still be a min of $50k. Certainly an amount the average person would fight tooth and nail for. She should be fighting even harder considering she has been told she can't go to college without funding it herself, and will be turned onto the street on her 18th birthday.
Applications are already in, so she should be freaking the f*ck out knowing she will also be denied financial aid due to her parents income. She gave us all a stern talking to for being concerned about Chad's welfare, gave BLM protestors a talking to for destroying her beloved city, and even chided a man she intentionally cut off the ice and snow for getting mad at her dangerous and impatient maneuver. Yet a person who steals her life fortune and entire future just gets a shoulder shrug? The whole thing stinks to high heaven. New theory: maybe she realized BYU isn't a sure thing and doesn't have enough money for college without the hefty staff discount, so this is her sympathy ploy for a crowd funded college experience?

Banks are regulated by several government agencies so I'm questioning the validity of her story. Everyone would be terribly upset to lose this amount of savings. The Griffiths are also been known to name businesses they've dealt negatively with and that hasn't happened since I think any bank would respond to this incident if made public.Kattiness Everdeen wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 11:08 pm Her bank really sucks, or she is a liar. Several comments asked why her parents don't pay her college so my guess is she will not see too many viewers contribute to her college fund.

I agree about it being off. She said they were able to change it because they also changed the phone number. If the phone number was changed, then that would have blocked Shari from accessing the account again, I think? So, something doesn't add up. I thought only the Amish turn a blind eye to crime, that is their way, but the way Shari is describing it, is pure stupidity on their part to do nothing--not too surprising! As much credit as Ruby and Kevin want to give their kids for being adults at the age of 16, was it, this is why they need parents involved in their decision-making still. As mature as Shari comes across, she really is not mature enough to handle such adult things.YTIG60 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 15, 2020 8:23 pmThere is something very off with the bank savings account. Are people thinking the kids will be made to move out at 18 even if they’re still in high school? To me, “not welcome to live here after 18” means after high school. So Shari would have to move out for the summer before college and not come back. You’d think she’d at least let her stay for the summer, I guess we’ll see! Ruby will be so over having her kids around by the time Russel and Eve get to this point they might get the boot even sooner!

She may rethink it by the time Eve and Russell are old enough, who will do the housecleaning once the kids are gone. She must not be thinking about that.imoverit wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 9:53 am Are people thinking the kids will be made to move out at 18 even if they’re still in high school? “Not welcome to live here since you finish high school” means once they move out for college they’re not allowed to move back in.

Re: 8 Passengers: No beds, no food, but mom loves motherhood! | Part 18
I'm not sure if she is kicking them out the very moment they turn 18. I think it was more like she is not willing to take them back to leech on her when they've already moved out once. Anyways, I don't understand that attitude. Why wouldn't you want to help the people you love the most? Why to be so selfish? They already made you a fortune.Lolislol26 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 11:36 amTo me, “Not welcome to here after 18” means once you’re 18 you’re expected to move out.imoverit wrote:Are people thinking the kids will be made to move out at 18 even if they’re still in high school? and about the theft of Shari's money. If she is so nonchalant about it, I say it out loud. She is a liar.

Ruby is cold, but I think they will let her stay until she finishes high school. They will probably pull a "YAWI/Tannnerites" and act like she is no longer part of the family though. Making her pay her own way, even on family vacations. Possibly taking the car back, unless she pays for it, or if they don't allow Chad to get his license and still need an errand runner.Lolislol26 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 11:36 amTo me, “Not welcome to here after 18” means once you’re 18 you’re expected to move out.imoverit wrote:Are people thinking the kids will be made to move out at 18 even if they’re still in high school? My narc mother also banned us from the house at 18, but my sister and I both turned of age at the end of the summer, so I don't have any insight on whether they will charge Shari rent if she stays the summer, or if she will be expected to have her housing figured out within weeks of getting an acceptance letter, etc.

Their whole parenting philosophy strikes me as "let's artificially make these kids' lives as hard as we can despite being fully capable of providing for them above and beyond just to teach them an arbitrary lesson".Kattiness Everdeen wrote: ↑Wed Dec 16, 2020 4:23 pmRuby is cold, but I think they will let her stay until she finishes high school. The tuition for the entire year in BYU as a Mormon is around 5k. So maybe she really had 20k in her account. Odd. She's too calm, sounds fishy to me. Seems like "someone" took it as a punishment lol

Plus, I believe she gets another 50% off as a child of a professor. I can't imagine Ruby letting her amass $200K in savings, since any earnings she had from YT and IG would go to Ruby, not Shari.emlyx wrote:The tuition for the entire year in BYU as a Mormon is around 5k. Shari should get 50% on tuition, but the big money is room and board, and I doubt they can discount that. It runs you like 10k a year with all other college expenses accounted for. That is how I got to the 50k estimation if she was only considering BYU. Unless Ruby was taking a large cut of the money from her channel and her sponsorships, she should easily have this amount and more.

That's what I would think too, she had plenty from Youtube views. Re: 8 Passengers: No beds, no food, but mom loves motherhood! | Part 18
Shari has made it pretty clear that she only did the channel to pay for college. I wonder if her losing the money is at all connected to youtube, whether someone targeted her or for some other reason. Would be kind of ironic if youtube is how she made the money and how she lost it. While she did have to work for this money a little bit, the amount of work she had to do is nowhere near equal to the amount of money she must have made off of it since the audience came so easy off her family's coattails.

But she's under 18. Her YT earnings go to Ruby first. Do you really believe Ruby gave her everything she earned on her channel? I don't. Probably at least 95% goes to ruby and shari may get some money but she has to do chores to get it. She makes all of the kids feel worthless unless they do chores.lmmomSD wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 6:17 pmBut she's under 18. Her YT earnings go to Ruby first. Is that truly how it works there? I'm live in northern Europe and anything you earn yourself underage, is legally your money and doesn't go through your parents. You are even allowed to open bank account legally on your own (typically legal agreements need to be made by parents) for your own earnings non dependent on your parents accounts and they have no access to it.boychik0830 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 17, 2020 6:25 pmProbably at least 95% goes to ruby and shari may get some money but she has to do chores to get it.
