Looks like Shari made the same overconfident mistake I made when I applied to college! The types of schools she applied to are actually remarkably similar to what I did, except none are exactly the same - one local, one ivy, one in DC and another random difficult school. I got lucky and got into two of my four, but it's definitely a risk applying to only four schools that are all very good and difficult and if I had to redo it I'd probably add one safer school. I could see her possibly getting into George Washington, I do think Boston and UPenn are stretches but hey you gotta go for some reach schools just to see (she can certainly afford the app fees!). She's very much banking on getting into BYU which she even says. I just wish she had a desire to do something different with herself... oh well.

I wonder if she talked about youtube anywhere on her applications, like in an essay. It would definitely cause them to look at her channels and I don't know if that would be a good thing!! It could be, it's a mixed bag and another risk. I find it a little funny she's trying to give tips on applying and she hasn't even been successful yet. If she's already got her freshman roommates planned out, it would be really devastating for her to not get into BYU. I think she's been told how "smart" she is one too many times and is very confident with this.

Oh don’t kid yourself. She’s going to BYU even if all the other colleges accept her and give her 100% scholarships, which won’t happen.

She is a Mormon living in a Mormon bubble and probably looking to get married and start having kids. Just like her momma.

And she won’t be accepted into any Ivy League school. She didn’t take enough AP classes and she doesn’t have a lot of extra curricular activities, she should’ve gone for more variety IMO.

I wasn't prepared for how terrible that video was. She is an idiot. Her big tip was not to work too hard on your essay and make 8 different teachers provide recommendations!?!?

She doesn't even know what schools she applied to. She said she applied to "Walton Business School in Boston". Unfortunately "Walton Business School" is in Arkansas. She probably means "Wharton" which is at UPenn. I bet she only applied because she heard Trump went there. None of those schools are going to give a mediocre student a free ride like she expects. Even amazing students don't usually get that. She needs to look at an inexpensive safety school with rolling admissions or she might not be going at all. She better hope that huge donation her parents made to BYU can be applied to her own admission.

I think one thing we can all agree on is that the US is screwing up royally when it comes to exploiting children on social media. YouTube forcing channel owners to be 18 to earn their own money is just another example of how they incentivize parents to squeeze every last bit of content/money out of their children. Especially for these Mormon kids, whose parents already add and remove money from their accounts at their discretion; that makes it doubly troubling.

I worked from the age of 11, and I kept all my money in my own bank account that my parents didn't have the PIN code to access. These Mormon vlogger kids have their parents deducting money for not doing chores, getting cavities, etc. April and Davey basically cancelled their 6 yr old's birthday party because he was in debt to them for dental care. They said giving him a break on his debt was the only thing he got for his birthday....with a small token puzzle to make it feel like a birthday. They claim he was thrilled to have the debt relief instead of a party with gifts....at SIX! They all insist on making their kids feel the stress of adulthood from birth, without ever actually teaching them any responsibility or life skills, or modeling any themselves. There is no way they can grow into healthy functional adults.

Look at Shari, she is one mistake away from destroying her future, if she hasn't already. The entire purpose of parents is to protect your child and teach them how to avoid making easily preventable life altering mistakes. If your kindergartner has a mouth full of cavities, that shows his parents are inept, not the child. Same with allowing a child to let someone take 10's of thousands of dollars from them.

what did we all think of todays vlog? I wonder if they ere suppose to be filming the play, when I was in plays when I was small they didn't let parents record but you could buy an official version of the CD from the company where they also had some BTS stuff like learning the dances and stuff. On the plus side at least they blurred the other kids faces and kept social distanced although no masks were worn!

Julie is apparently thinking of dong back to public next year. I wonder if she will or if Ruby will bribe her with a easier curriculum in Ruby school with swimming, theatre and fun fridays. I wonder why Abby didnt join into the ply, maybe it was an age thing or maybe it was cause she's doing some private school stuff as well as Ruby school. Also she told the world where he kids are doing theatre classes , isn't that a bit of a safety risk for creepy stalkers.

Some college admissions really dig into an applicant, and if she mentioned youtube at all I'm sure they'd look into that. She better hope Boston and UPenn don't watch this video because it is a huge mistake that she left in the part where she gets the name of the business school wrong. We had admissions people come to our high school to give us tips and they said some people get the school or program names wrong in their essays and they're immediately thrown out, so this isn't far from that if they go looking into her channel. The whole video was one overconfident mess, if she had an easy time with the essays then I'm wondering how good they were, because college essays are very difficult to get right!

Like that POS essay in "Kissing Booth 2" that she wrote to get into Harvard? That was the biggest joke in that movie-- that Elle with her 2 extracurricular activities and half-assed essay about how she wants to be like her friends and family in 5 years, got into Harvard and Berkeley! I went to UC Santa Cruz, and I don't think I could get in now. I had really high SATs but so-so grades and one extracurricular activity-- speech/debate team (yeah, I was a nerd).

Absolutely ridiculous that Ruby is going to hold this theater group over Julie as a way to make her choose homeschool next year. For those who don't want to watch, Julie loved being part of this community theater group and play this semester, but Ruby says that Julie wants to go to public school next year (interesting that she doesn't even want to go to the private school!). Ruby told her she would then not be able to be part of the theater because they rehearse in the mornings, so Julie is considering homeschooling just to be able to do that. Of course Ruby doesn't explain to her that she has other options - her public school might do plays, or I'm certain there are other community theater groups that accommodate kids in school and rehearse outside school hours. But of course then Ruby wouldn't want to drive her to it if she's doing an activity on her own that the rest of the siblings aren't a part of. Ruby is an incredibly manipulative person.

She specifically said she took "short cuts" on her essays and that she knew they weren't done well, but it didn't matter because "they just want to get to know you". I was told the exact opposite when I was applying to colleges. Yes, they want to get to know you, but it better be the best damn essay of your life, and should have been reviewed my several teachers/counselors for best result. Most college prep schools make you start writing them for a grade well in advance to ensure you don't do what Shari did. That Mormon school must be a total joke based on that mess of a video.

Ugh, it pissed me off so much having Ruby tell Julie, "Wellll... you can't do this next year unless you homeschool." If Julie really does love acting and theatre so much, she would have so many more opportunities at a public school. I guess I don't know for sure what the public school has to offer, but most schools offer drama club and have multiple plays during the school year. She could probably take a creative writing class, too, to practice her playwriting, or I'm sure she'd thrive in band or choir, or something like that. She would have a lot of options at public school, more than just starring in one play the whole year. Of course, Ruby will try to hide it from her and keep her from her passions so that she will agree to homeschool again.

Shari's video was painful to watch. "I didn't work hard on any of my essays, I used the same one for every college and they're not good.", "You need to have 8 recommendations". Huh? As everyone has been saying, the essays are probably the most important part of the application. She literally admitted on a public video that she didn't try and was so lazy she basically used the same essay for each application. Lol, why? It's like when she was announcing that she bombed all her AP exams because she didn't care about them. The sad part is she's so convinced she knows what she's talking about that she doesn't have a second thought about posting these videos knowing college admissions can easily find/watch them. Also, 8 recommendations? I've never seen an application that requires more than 3 and the recommendations is one thing that you can reuse for different applications. Can't believe she bugged 8 people to write recommendations for her. It's also highly unlikely that 8 different people knew her well enough to recommend her. In my high school/college experiences I only ever really connected with two or three teachers, and definitely wouldn't have trusted much more than that to write me a letter of recommendation. It's hard to find people who really know you enough to write a recommendation for you, I'm guessing some of those recommendations were pretty quickly thrown together and maybe not the most accurate or best written.

It seems like Shari is just trying to show off by applying to some of those schools, acting as if there's a chance she'll get in. When she was younger she seemed to genuinely work hard and excel in academics. But now she just thinks she's so smart that she doesn't have to try. If by some miracle she got in to one of the more competitive schools, she'd have a rude awakening. Students are not only intelligent, but ridiculously driven and competitive.

I'm pretty sure she already knows she's going to BYU since she's said she knows who she's living with. The application stuff is all a show (maybe her mom thought it would be good content)

Abby has been her declared favorite for as long the vlog has existed. I just came across a couple of vlogs in a row where she says this. She also thinks that Abby made them millionaires by playing the harp, so there is that. Abby will only stroke Ruby's ego though, she refuses to do the cruel and manipulative bidding that Shari does eagerly for approval and special privileges.

I am honestly wondering if that recent massive donation to their scholarship program they made to BYU was given with the express understanding that it was payment for Shari's matriculation. That is the only way to explain her sudden and complete disregard for school around the same time, combined with her complete disregard for her vanishing college savings. They haven't even sent out early acceptance and she has her roommates chosen. I would kill to know how much they donated. Usually you need a couple million at elite schools, but this is not one of them. At least it sounds like a legal "bribe". Shari talking so carelessly and ignorantly about college is a little too reminiscent of Olivia Jade. At least pretend like you tried!

Finally, My interest is thoroughly piqued now that the whole family got together for a Christmas vacation, except black sheep Ruby (and Beau who everyone suspects is in porn rehab). Ruby is doing nothing but freeze drying crap at home though. I wonder what she did to her family!?!? Blaming her for destroying Beau's marriage via her scam therapy MLM is still a top theory for me.

When Abby and Julie got their bikes stolen, Ruby sat Abby down and basically told her their god would make sure she got a new one because she was the perfect child who did everything he wanted. No such promise to Julie. Ruby literally calls her "perfect" and "the favorite" in multiple vlogs. Even Shari has voiced the fact that Abby is "perfect" and "the favorite".

I totally agree about Shari's motivations for bothering to apply to very good schools that aren't BYU. She wants to be able to say she got into them, even though she'll choose BYU anyway. I will be extraordinarily surprised if she got into UPenn or Boston though. She has really built up this "I don't even try in school anymore" spiel to have an excuse for low AP scores and potential college rejections.
