I'm not sure if I'm missinterpretating this sentence of yours (Experienced CPMs caring for low-risk women still have statistically better outcomes than hospitals.) but hospital births are safer than homebirths with a midwife. According to Grünebaum (2017), hospital births have a neonatal mortality rate of 6.02/10,000 and homebirths with a midwife of 12.75/10,000 (so it's double). Then hospital births with a midwife have a neonatal mortality rate of 3.52/10,000 (not sure if this is the one you're refering to).Anne Bonny wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 11:03 am Just wanna clear up some misconceptions about midwives and homebirths:
- Homebirths in women who are low-risk can be safe with either a Certified-Nurse-Midwife OR am experienced CPM/LM (Certified Professional Midwife/Licensed Midwife). The former has a nursing degree, the latter studied midwifery exclusively and then apprentices and attends a certain number of births before they can sit the licensing exam. Many states (including my own) do not allow a CNM to attend a homebirth and it will threaten her nursing license so if you want a homebirth in those states you have to use a CPM. Experienced CPMs caring for low-risk women still have statistically better outcomes than hospitals. Having a trained, experienced professional with many births under their belt is the important part and with either form of midwife, they are specifically educated in what signs to look for that may signal a need for transfer or impending emergency before it gets to the point of being life-threatening.
- Midwifery is NOT illegal in NC. It is a-legal. What this means is that while many states have strict (and sometimes non-evidence-based) laws regarding who midwives may or may not take on for homebirth, who can be a homebirth midwife, what requires a transfer...no such law exists there. This is beneficial in many ways for homebirth midwives because they are not subject to non-medical male lawmaker's whims about what they can and cannot do and who they can or cannot see, even when those laws are not supported by medical literature BUT this can also be very harmful because anyone could technically take on the title of midwife without state-specific regulation and they don't have absolute protection either since they cannot point to following rules and regulations if a bad outcome occurs and could be perceived as "practicing medicine without a license".
- Ashleigh absolutely can have a homebirth with a midwife in NC. There are several good ones in her area. Most likely its a money thing since prenatal care + a birth with a homebirth midwife often runs 2-4k.
- Unassisted birth is stupid and irresponsible. Since the beginning of time, women have always some form of skilled birther/midwife with them across almost all cultures and periods except specifically for cultures that villify childbirth and force women to birth alone. Ashleigh would not be able to detect a red flag of an impending problem in the middle of her birth, neither her nor her husband are skilled to handle stabilizing her and keeping her well until EMS arrives, and the risk of complications (even manageable ones for a midwife in a home setting) increases because she is grandmultiparous (has had so many pregnancies/births) and getting older.
I'm a women's health nurse (also work as an ICU nurse) currently going through a nurse-midwifery program and I've had a c-section with an OB, a VBAC homebirth with a CPM/LM, and a hospital VBAC with a CNM .

I think it’s more than money (money may be part of it but not the whole reason) I think she legit thinks it’s a good thing and she is capable and it’s an ego trip to some degree (look what I can do!). Also she falls on her faith too hard. She believes god will protect her and god will never let her down. How about god gave us knowledge and called people to midwifery and the medical field. Those people will help you. It’s like people who refuse medicine and get extremely ill or god forbid die. Maybe god was sending you medicine but you didn’t listen.
I think home births done proper can be beautiful. I myself had my daughter in a hospital and if I ever give birth again will return to a hospital... but I support anyone who wants to birth at home after being deemed low risk and with a midwife attending!! So much can go wrong... and you have 7 other lives to think about above your own wants and needs!! They need a mom.
Do you think both Angie and Ashley have health insurance?

Both Ashleigh and Angela now live in South Carolina, so midwifery and home birth laws in North Carolina are no longer relevant. Maybe she was previously referring to legalities regarding a CNM attending her home birth? I’ve never actually looked into any state or federal laws on the subject. Personally, I’ve had two vaginal births in a hospital with an OB/GYN and would never attempt to do it at home, but that’s just my personal comfort level. I think informed consent is most important.

I find it alit odd that Ash names her kids before they arrive. I find it alittle superstitious to do so.
And what happens if you have the baby and they look nothing like the name??

Its very common amongst Americans to announce a name long before the baby is born. Really strange to me as its never done where im from.jac wrote:I find it alit odd that Ash names her kids before they arrive. I find it alittle superstitious to do so.

Super interesting. I’d say from everyone I know and have seen online in the US it’s rare people haven’t named their child prior to birth. Those who haven’t named them prior to birth are the minority. My daughter didn’t have a name until we were about 1-2 weeks pre-birth but that’s only because we couldn’t agree on one and were stubborn on our picks I won lol

I’m in the US and come from a ginormous family (23 nieces/nephews and counting!) and my siblings don’t share the baby’s name until birth. Everybody does it differently, but I imagine I’ll go the more private route if/when I have a child.jac wrote:I find it alit odd that Ash names her kids before they arrive. I don’t recall who it was on YT or Instagram, but a public figure had shared their child’s name but then changed it at birth. I imagine it would be inconvenient, as they may have purchased and/or received gifts that were custom to the name they’d chosen and shared initially. That’s the only real downside I see of it.

New Vlog up: A couple of thoughts.
1. Shes back into overly editing. A few years ago there were some vlogs that were overly edited like this one, with text and tones of audio. that quickly ended and she went back to the regular vlogs. I expect this will be short lived.
2. Ang demanding kisses from the alpacas reminded me of someone with mental issues. Like demanding love from people that clearly don't want to consent to it. I dont mean to speak negatively about someone withe mental illness because I understand they cannot help it. I think that Ang was acting thinking it looked cute. not a good look there.
3. how long until we get an Young Living plug? and she starts "Cleaning" everything with thieves?
4. it must be truly exhausting being her kid.

Re: ThisGatheredNest: Lip Fillers and Lil Critters | Part 3
I think the home birth is mostly because of money. Ashleigh had a hemorrhage during one of her births so to choose another home birth is irresponsible. I’m glad they won’t be able to foster though. I thought that it was so wrong to attempt to try to have a foster child in your home when you cannot even give the child a little privacy. Also her ‘homeschooling’ ends with teaching her kids reading and nothing else as far as she went on about it. I feel bad for some of her kids.
Little Alice needs attention and it’s obvious. Bigger girls are nannies and maids. Pete does a lot of house work.
Ashleigh never went on to vlog daily because she was getting a lot of criticism for the state of her house back in the day when she did vlog. A lot of this ‘respecting’ kids’ privacy is a veneer because she plasters them all over Instagram where it’s easier to show themselves as picture perfect

Re: ThisGatheredNest: Lip Fillers and Lil Critters | Part 3
My parents didn't want to find out my gender until I was born but they did have a male and female name picked out. I turned out to be a female (thank goodness, I hated the male name they chose). I don't think it's strange at all to pick out the name before birth. In Australia, we don't seem to announce all the time beforehand but it does still happen (cant wait to meet baby Emma etc).
If the baby doesn't look like the name that's fine, you can change it. A popular mummy blogger did that with her daughter but I believe she announced both names after birth. Her daughter was originally named Betty (I hate it) and then a few days later announced they changed the name to Florence.

Some thoughts from the new vlog as I'm watching.
1. That tap was running for SO long? She didn't need the water running the entire time? Maybe I'm just overly conscious but every time I turn the tap on for anything I'm generally pretty grateful that I live somewhere that has clean running water on demand. I hate water wastage, it's so unnecessary and definitely one of my biggest household pet peeves.
2. I have caved. What's with the AirPods? she has them in her ears constantly and I just don't get it. I don't understand. I love my AirPods but only to listen to music, I don't know why she could possibly need them in her ears constantly.
3. When she is talking about the electric broom thing the background noise is SO much. I understand that is what to expect with that many kids but honestly, she is a saint, I am getting worked up just hearing it through the computer, I couldn't imagine her being there all day with that. She does have the AirPods in though so maybe it blocks the noise out?
4. Ok she answered why she always has the AirPods in. All good but also? I don't know how I feel I mean it just makes me think inattentive and like she doesn't want to hear the kids. I don't want to hear that either but I also don't have kids for that reason. Like maybe teach the kids indoor voices rather than just drowning them out with books/music/podcasts.
5. Sweet Rosie seems like she wants attention the entire time she is cleaning the fridge/oven. It would appear she is trying to sing a song or something and Angie just isn't paying ANY attention.
6. Talking about researching the Canon G7x. Yeah. They are expensive cameras and I don't care about cameras at all and even I know they are notoriously awful and the swivel screen breaks A LOT of the time. They are so expensive, I can't believe they just drop so much money on something without even researching first?
7. I think it's fun that she wants to switch up the vlogs, especially since she is so into photography. There is a lot you can do to change up photos and photography but there isn't much you can do to switch up a daily vlog. I hope she does start a cooking segment, I would be interested to see what they eat.
8. Im sorry but I hate that the pigs are inside. Maybe I would be happy with it if they had just hardwood but seeing the pigs running around and eating/drinking on the carpet is so disgusting to me. I love animals and I love pigs but maybe not on the carpet?
9. It was really nice to see the kids on Christmas, they all seemed so happy and it was nice that they didn't vlog a lot but they still kept the fans happy. Rosie is so precious.

Ok im sorry for the double post but the new vlog about the horse shop is up. Maybe this is me speaking from someone that lives in Victoria, Australia and had one of the world's harshest covid lockdowns but I truly cannot believe this woman. They walked out of the restaurant and it was clear that the grandma wasn't wearing a mask. When one of the girls mentioned she ripped her mask the grandma said "don't worry it will still work". Yes, the mask with a hole is technically better than nothing but when it comes to children they should be protected as much as possible and a ripped mask isn't good enough in my opinion.
Nice to see grandma wearing a mask in the horse shop but suddenly the girls aren't wearing masks. Listen, I understand the horse shop isn't overrun with people but masks still prevent you from touching your mouth. Frankly, I'm pretty horrified and disappointed. With a large family like theirs, they should be EXTRA careful to make sure they aren't bringing anything home with them because you don't need all 10 of them struck down with covid. I don't even think I'm being paranoid and I'm sorry if people here don't belive in masks and quarantining and stuff but I think going shopping for the horses was incredibly irresponsible, not only due to the fact they weren't wearing masks but also they have such a large family and they should absolutely be making every effort to make sure they aren't getting sick. It doesn't matter how low the covid cases are, I believe that every precaution should be taken no matter what.
It was nice that one of the sisters (honestly idk their names) brought some toys for the twins. I think that was cute but then do the other siblings get jealous that they didn't get anything? I don't have siblings so I really don't know if kids pick up on things like that.

Yeah, I feel like we see more of the real Braniffs, especially Angela, when her parents are around. TBH, I cringed a little when she held up the plastic pistols in the store. Yes, the boys are going to “stick up” everyone else in the house, that’s what the toy is meant for. I understand Angela’s family are conservative, gun-toting Southerners. I know Angie tries really hard to not alienate anyone, but maybe this gradual shift in content will be freeing for her. I definitely don’t like the lack of masks, the older girls should absolutely be wearing them, too. Or they can stay home, IMO. I wish I could take my 3-year old out shopping, but until he will wear a mask properly (only over his mouth doesn’t cut it), he is staying home.mouse268 wrote:Ok im sorry for the double post but the new vlog about the horse shop is up. What bothered me in this video was all the talk about money. Angie poked a few times at her daughters:
'Do you have a job now?'
'they only use me for my money' says the mom literally using her children for adds on Instagram
She also made sure to mention that the girls were spending their 'Christmas moneys'
Idk I got the vibe that she was trying to belittle them on camera or something like that.

She really should be paying her kids for creating her content. Almost all of her sponsored posts and highest viewed videos are centered around her kids. She would have no platform if it weren’t for her gaggle of children.Espeon wrote:What bothered me in this video was all the talk about money. Angie poked a few times at her daughters:

Yeah, I had problems with the constant talk of money as well. I understand they got gift cards from the grandparents for Christmas and that's great but the way Ange constantly brought up that she was just there to be the credit card ect made me cringe a little. Yes, they are your kids. Unless the grandparents gave them $500+ gift cards it didn't seem like they would have been able to buy all that much given the cost of the things they were showing. I would assume that Angie would have to add some money on to be able to get something decent.Espeon wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 10:12 pm What bothered me in this video was all the talk about money. I also can't imagine them letting the kids have jobs. I think it would be great for them to get some financial freedom and be able to save money for horse stuff. They could also be able to get out of the house and meet new people, and that's the exact reason I can't see them working. It seems like the kids are already so alienated from people their own age (outside of family) so it would be interesting to see them getting to work and make friends their own age.
Re: ThisGatheredNest: Lip Fillers and Lil Critters | Part 3
Yay, the golf cart is back. Angie couldn’t figure out how to even turn the thing on. I’m not happy at seeing Amelia on the back, being told to hang onto whatever she can. Rosie, too, but she’s older and has a little more weight. The lack of safety is unbelievable, I left my first dislike and stopped the vlog.

The bit where she said the kids might've ran out the battery was worse. I think she said they should hang on to whatever they want to keep/not drop. I assume they crawl along at jogging speed when the little kids are on it, it's just for laziness and fun. The kids driving it is more worrying though.
She must be short on content without the kids at the centre like they used to be (however much she denies now, the potty training and bed wetting vlogs are still there, so she can get off her high horse about privacy). All she has to do is drive around her front entrance for a few minutes and slow the footage to half speed, wander in the animals for a few mins, add some music and *boom* it's a pay check. It feels so distant and lacking effort. I've never seen an influencer put in so little effort with engagement and yet her "community" is meant to be her selling point.
Why did she do a cleaning vlog sweeping and then hoovering when they were recently sponsored by a 2 in 1 automated mopping vacuum? Could it be that she's actually peddling BS products that don't work and expecting the less affluent people she makes money off, to waste their hard earned money on BS products that she herself doesn't even use Not dissimilar to buying a new tv for movies when she tried to sell us a projector that they use for movies (which has since disappeared).
I'm interested in the big declutter again. When she got rid of half her possessions 9 months ago and claimed minimalism, i'm interested to see how that's going.

I enjoy most her vlogs but also had the thought she must be especially busy, or out of ideas. We had 2/3 a video on them driving to get mail. The rest was basically CR trying to fill time.wasteoftime wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 4:50 am The bit where she said the kids might've ran out the battery was worse. I get she’s trying a new direction, but that was basically a slow motion music video about getting mail and a tree.

What happend to her sister and her podcast? Her and CRs podcast? The issue with Angela is she has so much content people would watch... her decor style is not the normal influencer white on white so she could do so many "decorating the new house" videos, videos about the farm, homeschool videos, actual real budget videos, etc.... its so sad to see someone who was so genuine and with so much to share just waste away her opportunities on lip fillers and critters. Her little obsessions with be what ruins her.
