I don't think her behaviour is strange at all if you look at it through an NPD lens.

She doesn't love her children like most people do. She thinks she does, and her fans think she does, but she loves how they fulfil HER needs and expectations. She loves what they can do for HER. What attention they bring HER. How they make HER feel. This is not the true love of a parent to a child.

People with NPD are preoccupied with their own needs and desires, with have no care for anyone else. Because Alex's needs and desires centre around some fantasy of being the perfect pastor's wife, she devotes all her time to trying to achieve this - being pregnant, doing IVF, popping out babies, having obedient children that act like angels. Her fans misunderstand this as good and loving parenting, instead of seeing this as pathological.

She loves her kids the same way an insecure guy would stand back and admire his new sports car. The object fills some pathological need they have, and in return, they "love" it.

That's exactly it.My mom was a narc,and life was all about what we could do for HER,and how we could make HER look good. It was never about what she could do for us,as a parent.You described that perfectly.
My mom also used to triangulate,as we got older,so I hope Alex somehow avoids that behavior,but I'm not counting on it.My parents also did the golden child/scapegoat syndrome with us,which really stinks.I was the scapegoat.Again,I hope this isn't something that is done to the kids at all

I'm really sorry you went through this. It must be horrible. And it's why Alex makes me SO angry. Sadly, I do think she'll discard the objects/children when they no longer benefit her. It's the same in the car analogy I gave - the guy will sell the car and stop loving it as soon as it gets dirty and scratched up and no longer makes him feel important, rich and special. Alex will treat her kids the same way. In fact, she already is. As soon as they grow a little, or stop breastfeeding, they no longer fulfil her needs. She needs to move on to the next baby. Callie has looked miserable for years already. I'm sure she's already been catergorised as the difficult child, and is being treated as such by her parents.

Youtube is a dangerous place for narcs. The world of family vlogging is literally designed for them and it feeds their "habit". Alex has thousands of fans at her fingertips that gush about how great she is, fuelling her sense of self-importance. They then reward her financially for all the things she races after at the expense of others - pregnancy, breastfeeding, childbirth.

The dogs they went to see are definitely from a puppy mill. They said it felt like a rescue situation because it was an accidental litter? I don’t know a ton about dog breeding but that sounds so sketchy. I wouldn’t put it past them to buy a purebred dog from a bad source though- it’ll definitely be cheaper (and more likely to have genetic defects)

They should just adopt a dog that needs a home. But considering how they’ve ended up acting with their adopted kids vs having a bio baby, I’m not surprised they won’t.

If the get a Great Pyrenees they will be in a world of trouble. Like any dog they need training and these are huge ass dogs that shed a ton and can be a problem if not properly trained. Definitely not a “toy” dog. It’s a working breed for a reason.

We have a mutt(Curr dog with pit bull mix) and a full blooded German Shepard (2.5 years) and we work with the shepherd every single day so she doesn’t get antsy. Our mutt is trained really well too but she is a straight up hunting dog and has different needs. The German shepherd needs stuff to “guard and herd up”

I assume they are planning to let the dog live outside all the time? My dog barks at anything and everything, so if this is their plan, they are in for some disturbed sleep! We know how much Alex "needs" her sleep. I pity any dog which these two take on. I attended classes sometimes twice a week with my first puppy, and trained her every day. These two, plus Kinsley and Callie are so loud and screechy, they will spook any poor puppy. What a pantomime they all are.

I'm going to go out on a whim and say that I think they will get a Golden Retriever, which Phil very briefly mentioned at the end of the video in conversation to Alex.

These two manipulators like to trick and surprise their fans. These videos run 2 weeks behind, so they know exactly what sort of dog they got when they released it. I wouldn't put it past them to post a new video titled "You will never believe what we ended up buying!" and shock their fans with the purchase of a completely different breed to the one they showed here. It would be anticlimactic to show them bringing home the same puppy they had already revealed in an earlier video.

They've been scrambling for a while to try and rebrand their content. Seems like they worked out that pets are popular and so they looked up "dogs of instagram" to pick a popular breed?

I give it a year before that dog is rehomed or tied up outside 24/7. Alex hates cleaning up after herself, let alone a dog that has accidents and chews on things. Once IVF is back on the table, she'll have even less time to dedicate to a family pet. We've already seen how she doesn't want her own baby to be "too clingy." Imagine how it will be with a dog that needs regular feedings, exercise and bathroom breaks.

Sorry for the double post, but new pets around young children require a great deal of supervision. Young kids don't always realize that they have to be gentle with animals, and dogs will instinctively respond in self-defense when being mistreated. I can easily see Phil and Alex getting rid of a dog for snapping at one of the kids, when it was their own fault for not supervising in the first place. And then there will be a 3-part vlog about making this painful decision because the safety of their kids comes first.

Thx,I've been to therapy,and am in group therapy now.
She makes me angry,too.
My mom only had use for me when I was a cute little baby and toddler.Once I got older she ignored me,and by the time I was a teen,she'd completely discarded me.And I hope I'm wrong,and I don't think I'm projecting,but it won't surprise me if this is the direction Alex is headed in.Phil just enables her as well.
