I've been really busy with life recently so I don't know if this has been asked before or been mentioned on their videos, but has Shari said anything about the other colleges she applied to other than BYU? Would she just not talk about them at all if she got rejected from all 3 other schools?

LOL that haircut oh gosh. I’m only a couple years older than Shari but I know that long bangs are meant to frame your face when you have your hair up...which was sort of what she said she wanted.

Focusing on Ruby: “it looks so natural” like LOL no it doesn’t. It looks the literal exact opposite. When Shari said her balayage looked flat and dead and she cut it off I wanted to scream “NO IT LOOKED GREAT” because flat and dead is literally the state of it now. IMO the highlight colour makes it look murky and she has gorgeous hair and she is pretty - I wish Ruby would care more about this since “she does not care at all what Shari does with her hair” or at least take time to advise her daughter when she’s asking for advice

On the other hand there’s moms like shanna Leroy who are hella invested into their kids hair and dying to the point where they think they’re 17 too but at least she’s giving valuable input? That being said, the amount kesley dyes and cuts her hair probably isn’t healthy either (guess it’s worth it to maintain the cute woodsy minimalist Mormon vlogger IG aesthetic though?)

I think some of sharis shorter hair cuts were honestly pretty cute for her!

I am pretty sure the Mormon church isn't even associated with the Boy Scouts anymore because they started to allow LGBTQ people to join, which goes against church values/doctrine.

Chad does love a tight outfit though. I originally thought it was because he couldn't afford new clothes in his size after Ruby threw out all his possessions, but Chad has specifically said he likes his clothes skin tight since then. Is that actually a trend for Utah youth, or is it a Chad thing? I don't remember noticing it on anyone else.

Shari is 18 now, I say we give scrutinizing her vlogs like anyone else another whirl. It has been quite some time since people freaked out when I did Shari vlog summaries. I thought it was obvious Ruby didn't like her bangs, as she was trying to sway her to get "some longer pieces too". Basically saying she needs to layer them in like any self respecting hair dresser probably tried to do, but Shari knows best. Shari commented that she did a little blending in the front, so she tried. Even her fans were telling her it looks bad in the comments. They particularly hated the double dutch braid with bangs out look (it was certainly "unique"). Most people were begging her to cut off some of the length and blend the bangs in. I thought it was hilarious that Chad said it looked more white, which is what we all said the first time it was highlighted. It looks like early greying. Her natural brown wavy hair is so beautiful.

I think she is scarred from her childhood though. Every time she would chop her hair off she would come home excited to get compliments, and they weren't any. One time Abby actually cried and asked her why she would do that. Abby is the peacemaker, so you can imagine the comments the others gave off camera. Shari is praised for her long hair now, especially since perfect Abby chopped hers off. So I don't think she will cut it any time soon. I thought the shorter cuts were cute though, Ruby didn't even force her to get the infamous "can I speak to the manager" haircuts she imposed on Julie and Eve. There is probably a lot of pressure from the community to fit that tiny blonde haired blue-eyed "perfect Mormon ideal" we see portrayed across all these vlogs. Bonnie seems to really struggle with not fitting the mold too. Unfortunately she is a terrible example to Shari.

Most Universities on the East Coast do not release their acceptances until late March/Early April. I remember mine was April 1st and was scared my acceptance to my reach school was an April Fools joke! I know BU is around April 1st as well. That being said, I very much doubt she would announce her rejections. Likely will stay silent on the matter before announcing she's 'chosen' BYU to attend.

I have no idea what the other places she applied to are, but I'm guessing East coast. The last week of March and the first week of April would be the time to keep an eye on her Instagram for any announcements

Shari applied to BU, UPenn, and GW. It will be a couple of weeks before they send the letters.

I just watched today's vlog and Ruby is an idiot. The explorer "Meg-a-lin"? Who hasn't heard of Magellan? Someone please tell me that when she says she has been writing down facts about explorers, she actually means Eve, because what she showed looked like it was the work of a first grader. I hope the kids are put back into school next year before it is too late.

It was eye opening when Ruby shared that she has no empathy for people who don't take care of their bodies, after her and Shari talk about how she pushes it too much with the weight lifting obsession, just like Kevin. I wonder if her medical neglect of Shari is in part because she thinks she is doing it intentionally? Also, it is interesting that Shari keeps trying to pull attention back to her when Ruby wants to talk about Kevin's surgery. Wasn't this the night she went to the ER? She looks fine in the vlog, and was clearly driving herself to the hair salon and gym. Yet she told us she had lost her vision in the days prior to this.

After seeing Ellie's videos where she claims her kid almost died but shows no concern, I am getting really suspicious of a generational trend, for some to lie about medical issues for attention. It would explain some of the Griffiths not taking kids to the doctor when injured too. I don't know what is happening with Shari, but now that she is 18 and likely paying for her own specialist visits, I wonder if the medical quests will slow down. Also, Ruby claims she has rewritten her book 4 times now, as she has learned and grown over the years. I wish she would publish every version because I haven't seen much growth. I wonder if her editor just keeps telling her to start over.

ETA: While sad that Ruby used to worry Kevin wouldn't come back from his many trips leaving her with 6 kids (I would too), her use of the word "reticent" is sadder. It is "reminiscent" Ruby. Perhaps you should study the vocab list with the kids too.

This is going to sound weird but despite all the scrutinizing things I post on here about Ruby I actually do feel terrible for her and also sometimes wonder if she reads these or has begun to because her behavior recently seems to be changing... More on more as time goes on I feel bad for the predicament shes in because kevin is also to blame for 1/2 the issues if not more. Ruby might have not gotten an education but im sure its hard when you have a young child and are supporting your husbands dreams (who is also older) while trying to make ends meet as a young adult and little guidance as shes the oldest of 5. It was ofc her choice but idk I feel some sort of compassion after her scared kevin wouldn't come back comment. Shes told us how she was often asked if she was a single parent and the fact that she brought it up a bunch early-mid covid whenever she talked about grateful to have kevin home, it seems like its something she sort of still holds onto maybe out of spite or self-assurance that shes been through tough times before too? From what she does do (lil or lot) it seems like she handles everything between doctors, clothing, school supplies, cleaning etc., while kevin just cooks from time to time and takes the kids on trips. No wonder she makes comments about how everyone loves kevins food more than hers or how hes always good cop because he literally always comes off to be and then he acts smug about it in front of the kids... Like hes hardly there and then whenever they're like "we like it when dad makes it more" he gets this smirk on thats just so rude. I read this on here sometime last year but kevin literally seems like hes in it for the physical stuff and for the public image in their community (married, lots of babies, a good job, big house etc)...Hes always gone and I think he likes it that way, pretty condescending and idk just looks creepy. I wish he did more than just take the kids on a ski trip now and then and one kid on an international trip once a year...

I also think I like her a lot more when she features in sharis channel because I find Shari WAY worse than ruby. Shari was given every resource growing up and education and still seems as much if not more (for those reasons^) out of touch than her mother. Ruby on Sharis vlog seems real and actually likeable. I did like her advice about her getting longer bangs and glad she spoke up about it lol - she seems less fake or putting on a show and more like the regular supportive mom of teens i guess?

Ive also noticed that they stopped filming school related stuff that makes it into the vlogs, in the classroom but are more in the living room or kitchen - what was the point of buying all that ikea stuff and turning it into a school room for the lil's then? Could have given that space to abby and julie so they could still have separate bedrooms but they all seem happy so thats nice.

Im glad ruby pays her kids for grades - I feel like less than the majority of parents do that kind of stuff (the only ones I know that do are on youtube lol) and it might be her way of giving the youtube $$ back to the kids but in a way where they're striving towards it/earning it? IDK if thats the case and I know the amount she pays them is way less than what they probably make but at least its something and its a good lesson in saving up for college so shes not wrong about that...

I can't stand how ignorant she is about the world around her but as a person I can understand why she makes some decisions she does, a wise ass daughter like shari, absent husband, a temper tantrum thrower in russell and mischievous eve OFC no one told her to have this many kids but she did and it must be hard to do it alone most of the time (people have it way worse im aware). Not to mention she grew up probably having to be the role model or something for the other 4 siblings and her parents seem like they probably were hella overbearing on her...

I hope these subtle changes were seeing in their vlogs and her attitude continue to carry on and one day allow her to see constructive criticism comments as a way for self betterment because I think if she really took a second to step away from her defensive attack dog position, she could find some truth in it.

I agree (I think) that there has been a little bit of change in Ruby, trying to take in enjoying the kids more and doing more motherly things that a mother does (though, it is probably for the vlog and show since the child protection fiasco). Maybe she and Kevin have learned through counseling to better parent and this is where it is coming from. I could feel sorry for Ruby since, yes, she was made to mother Ellie, she was expected to and had many more kids than she could handle. However, she is the stay at home parent, and it was her choice to pile on so much more than that. Stay at home parenting is a full time job, plus. We've seen Ruby doing this (not 100% mind you), but choosing to add additional jobs to her plate with Ruby Doo clothing line, her YouTube channel, writing a book, Life coach training, home schooling, etc. These things she chose to add on and any one of them added to stay at home parent is clearly more than she can handle. She's not good at multi-tasking, and she delegates most of the house cleaning/chores to the kids and parenting to Shari (taking care of Eve is all the girls' responsibility-remember that is why they are all on the same floor and share a laundry room, to help Eve) so, she could choose to go with less and have more control over her load. I only feel sorry for Ruby that she was brought up in a sheltered world, and sees no other option than to marry, have babies and support your husbands' career before your own. Unfortunately, she is bringing up her own daughters to follow suit so that's where I lose the empathy for her.

Haven't posted here in a loooooong time and I haven't watched 8Passenger's vids in even longer. I live in Boston and only found out they were here bc one of their posts popped up on Instagram's explore page. Funny enough, one of the photos they posted was taken just around the corner from where I live.

I do not think that Shari would do well in Boston. There would be a serious culture shock for her, and a lot of her attitudes and beliefs would be unwelcome, especially among college students. If she is not prepared for the shock and to have an open mind, I think BYU is her best option. That being said, if she happens to have an open mind, maybe getting far away from her family and attending BU or one of the other east coast schools would be good for her.

In regards to masks, most people here are extremely strict. I can probably count on one hand the number of people I've seen in my neighborhood not wearing one during the entire last year at any time. Again, I haven't been watching their videos since long before the pandemic, but I imagine they don't take precautions very seriously and those attitudes would not be welcome here. My sibling attends another well-known school in Boston and they've quite literally expelled students who flout guidelines.

They said Kevin’s surgery would be 45 minutes and it has been 3+ hours and she didn’t think to call and ask for an update?! Our family dog was in a extremely minor surgery 2 weeks ago and we called when it went 30 minutes passed the expected time. I couldn’t imagine waiting 3 hours if it were my husband

I could have sworn Ruby said that she had been jotting those notes down! My hearing must be compromised.....but I feel much better about the quality of the work now at least. Also, I think you may have made some accidental corrections for them in your transcription. I remember being appalled that Ruby had written "Cristopher" Columbus, combined with her calling Magellen, "Meg-a-lin".

Do you think they understand the irony of reducing this historical figure down to a man who simply loved god and tried to teach others how god wanted them to live by capturing innocent people and selling them as slaves after he didn't get the easy payday he was hoping for?

Ruby and Kevin are products of their environment. The Utah Mormon culture is really something and you have to live it or research it deeply to understand it. You can just tell that if Ruby wasn’t raised the way she would not be a stay-at-home mother of 6 children who went to university just to snag a husband. But this is what she has been taught to be since she could walk. She simply can’t be any more. Kevin is the quintessential 1950s father who doesn’t give a shit about his kids’ lives. That’s just the way these circles run.

I don’t 100% feel sorry for Ruby because people have escaped these stereotypes and she has to take responsibility for her own life and the way she is raising her children. Most likely they will repeat these patterns. For all her talk and bravado, Shari will most likely go to BYU, join a Young Single Adults ward, date someone just like her father and be married by 21. All this talk about BU is just hilarious bs. She will be home with 3+ kids by 25.

The kid who did them (Russell I'm pretty sure) has lovely handwriting. I'll definitely give him that! Academically, it's not too bad actually. Content-wise, and educator-wise it...SUCKS.
