DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
Re: DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
Here is my letter to Maker Studios. Feel free to use it or use parts of it.
I am writing to you as a concerned viewer regarding your representation of the DailyBumps YouTube channel. On September 14, 2015, the DailyBumps uploaded a vlog titled "Counting Contractions" in which Bryan and Missy Lanning "tested" their two year old son Oliver to walk beyond their pool gate and swim in their pool by himself. Their irresponsible parenting must be condemned because unintentional incidents, including drowning, are the leading cause of death among children.
The DailyBumps channel has almost 700,000 subscribers, whom they influence. Bryan and Missy Lanning have defended their actions and deleted critical comments.
I am asking Maker Studios to take a stand for child safety by dropping your association with the DailyBumps YouTube channel and demanding that they delete the vlog.

Re: DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
I would add a screenshot of Bryan saying floaties and lifejackets are "more unsafe," cause it gives a false sense of security from a few pages back.
That can really be taken to heart by their preteen audience. They'll be like "no way am I going to endanger a child by putting RECOMMENDED safety devices on young children!"

^^ I was thinking the same thing... What if someone who watches them has a child/is watching a child and let's them in the pool alone and something happens! How will they feel then!? "Well the dailybums let Ollie go in the pool alone so it must be fine!"

Re: DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
Ollie's hair is wet after that too.. the kid for sure jumped in after his toy and Jim had to jump in and grab him. So he failed the "test" but gets to continue swimming in the pool right after that... Great lesson you are teaching your kid guys! I said it before and ill say it again, this test was just about as smart as testing your kids gun safety by leaving them alone with a loaded gun..mydietsucks_1 wrote:So Ollie threw his toy in, crouched like he does when he's going to jump in and then the scene cuts and Jim is wet fully clothed? The kid jumped in, just admit it I hope he is okay because it only takes a second to inhale water into your lungs.

I doubt they'll stay up long. They'd rather delete criticizing comments than to think about their son's safety and their own stupidity.[/quote]
They're still there. But I got seriously personally attacked. I don't know how to screen shot it, but I got called a "judgmental white woman who probably reproduced equally judgemental people" and told that "maybe your parents should have let you drown" I know this is waaay OT, but WTF?

I first posted here when they got the new Volvo. I was blocked from Bryan (and as of yesterday Missy's) IG that day. Right after I was told by a minion that y were glad I lost my baby years ago, "im glad you lost your baby so they don't have to grow up with you as a parent" Classy bunch, those Daily Bumps fans!!!

Daily Bumps: leave comments wishing death and miscarriages and that's A-OK.

Re: DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
this bothered me as well. Not only the whole idea of testing him in a dangerous situation, BUT they seemed FINE with him getting in the pool and playing on the step/float. Seems to me they were only concerned if he would totally get in without them. Bc you know nothing bad could happen with him playing in the water on the step, or stranding himself in the middle of the pool on a float. The second his toe hit the water they should have disciplined him and pool time should have been over. And what kinda rules do they even have? Ollie runs beside the pool, hes always in the water before they are. Whatever rules they have, they must be super lax.. LIKE EVERY OTHER RULE THEY HAVE....notsocrunchy wrote:I'm a long time lurker, very rarely a poster here but I just can't sit quietly through this one!
Most of how I feel about the pool "test" situation has already been said here so I won't go over all of the same again but I would like to say this:
This incident just proves how immature (and by immature I don't mean just bratty and entitled, I mean actually oblivious and lacking the common sense that should be gained through life experience) B&M are, particularly when it comes to parenting.
It doesn't take more than a few brain cells to rub together to figure out that toddlers really are pretty simple - reward positive behaviour, have consequences for negative behaviour and BE CONSISTENT.
For whatever reason they thought it would be a good idea to "test" Oliver around the pool but to then REWARD him with laughing, smiling and generally upbeat noises when he got in the pool (AGAINST THE POOL AREA RULES, Bryan?) is rewarding negative behaviour.
The minute he looked like getting in without an adult they should have been on him with a stern "No Ollie!" and shown him that that behaviour was not good or acceptable. Hell, even if missy threw in a "snap and clap", that would've been better than positive feedback for dangerous behaviour. Smh, I just can't even anymore.

Re: DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
This test is fucked up. Who the hell sets their kid up to fail?
Even responding to the "test" by reprimanding Ollie would've been messed up.
1. "Test" Ollie and be happy/impressed with his "skills" = Ollie now thinks it's okay to go swimming in the pool alone and learns his behaviour makes his family happy. They're setting the stage for Ollie to become seriously injured or dead.
2. "Test" Ollie and reprimand him.... Equally stupid, and would be plain mean to Ollie. You don't put your kid in his bathing suit, open the gate... and then yell/scare/punish the child for doing what you essentially asked him to do. I'd be seriously unimpressed if they chose this option as well. It would've been just better to say "Ollie, wait for dada/papa/mimi/auntie/whoever" when they saw him headed to the pool stairs, gone over to hold his hand to enforce the wait & make sure he's safe, and then the family swims with him. Of course, that wouldn't make for great vlog footage.
They're such morons.

I agree that both ideas are bad. I didnt mean for it to come off like i supported the idea, but i feel like that reinforcing the fact that he is not allowed to touch the water without an adult present would be better than smiling and acting all happy when he got in alone.ProSubscriber wrote:This test is fucked up. Wow, that's harsh. I am so sorry! I just told the guy to look in the mirror, and that at least I am able to disagree without getting nasty. I should have just left it.
That pool picture of them is just icky. And the IG comments are just awful. "Relationship goals!" "You're so beautiful and you two are so sweet and so in love!" Well, if that's what being "so in love" looks like, I really feel for those people. When I am in love, I don't shudder when my man touches me.
Someone be sure and fill us in on the lecture today! I'm sure there will also be a montage of the photo shoot. I just _literally_ can't, guizze, and besides, I refuse to give them views. Plus, I wasted way too much time yesterday!

I feel like snarking on people is one thing, and it does cross the line in my opinion sometimes- BUT contacting sponsors is ridiculous. If you want to use energy talking about someone, that's one thing. But wasting time actually trying to get brand deals taken away or sending ridiculous emails is just wrong and crosses the line, in my opinion. And as a mom of 4 kids- Ollie was fine. They were all right there. He can swim. If for one second he was struggling, they'd have been in that pool. They are not complete idiots.

Re: DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
I'll say it again: They fact I riled them up and they got defensive over my comment about planning their son's funeral means they know they did something wrong. If they were completely confident in their decision, they wouldn't have even replied to me. No, they know they did something wrong, and judging by the clips where both Ollie and Papa were wet, something happened neither Bryan or Missy want us to see.
It should be common sense to not let your two-year-old into a pool without an adult with them. But no, I got put under fire and people dumb as a door nail came into the comments to suck up to the Lazy Squad and attack me. These are the people who will let their child into a pool alone. These are the people, B&M included, whose child will die of drowning for being irresponsible. And when it does, they'll come crying all over social media about it and meanwhile I'll be over here shaking my head and saying, "I told you so."

Re: DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
What was hilarious to me was that they put him in his swim trunks. He's automatically going to assume its pool time. They should have kept him in his regular clothes...
Actually they should have just not done it, obviously. But the fact that they dressed him TO SWIM and then expected him not to swim? K.

Re: DailyUnnecessaryPurchases- Part 35
The thing that really sets me off is they are condoning behavior that could turn dangerous in a split second. Why encourage your toddler when he enters a pool without an adult? Its irresponsible and dangerous behavior on the parents part. And also, hes two... i dont care how long hes been in swim lessons, hes not a strong enough swimmer to be in that pool alone, period.Allthatglitters wrote:I feel like snarking on people is one thing, and it does cross the line in my opinion sometimes- BUT contacting sponsors is ridiculous. I think sending one to maker is a good idea, but don't expect Shay to care much. He likes kids cause he's a big kid himself. His kids are always endangering themselves by doing crazy tricks and jumping off things they shouldn't jump off of. He loves it and encourages it.OhHiImSam wrote:I'd send one to Maker too.
