Yeah, a child which gets one on one attention and usually has preschool picks these things up early. But Lily doesn't get that with V unfortunately. My daughter will be 4 in June and she has sight words! Unfortunately because of her age she can't go to school till 2018.
She learnt through everyday play with me and when we go to the shops she sees words, asks me what they are, I spell them and then she spells them back. Each child learns differently but its usually a reflection on how much time is spent with the child
I agree. By 4 she should definitely know her colours/shapes/numbers and some letters. Every child is different but as a parent you need to find a way to teach your child that works for them. My son is 4.5 and he's not very good with letters but he LOVES machinery and he learnt how to count by counting truck trailers, counting cars on the road, he tells me the colour of cars, how many wheels on trucks etc. my son also learns some things better at daycare, i work with him on letters and it's like talking to a brick wall but at daycare he picks it up better. He starts kindy this year and I think that'll help him a lot.
All lily seems to know is Disney princesses. Vanessa could use those to work with lily on colours and counting, what colour are their dresses? What colour is their hair? Count her dolls, sort her dolls shoes into colours etc etc. Vanessa relies on an iPad to teach lily.
Also, if Vanessa sent lily to preschool on a regular basis she would probably learn a lot more too.
