Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Am I the only one who thinks its weird that her kids share beds? I know shari said she would prefer to share with Eve but I remember Abby and julie didn't want to share and now she's bought them a bed to share? It might be ok while they're 7-8 years old but soon they'll be preteen and teenagers and they're not going to want to share and you just need to buy more beds. Why not buy decent beds that will last them years?
Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Yep, Abby and Julie were pretty adamant about not sharing a bed. I saw Ruby say in the comments that they had bunkbeds before and always ended up in the same bed anyway so they'd be fine. Yet in the vlog title, she put bedS and when she was talking about the headboard, kept referring to it as headboardS and them as if there were multiple beds. Unless Shari and Evie got a new one too? Just seems strange.staceybrax wrote:Am I the only one who thinks its weird that her kids share beds? I shared a bed with my sister forever though. Neither of us wanted to sleep alone, we are only 19 months apart but we did have our own beds so the option was always there to sleep apart.

Thanks, but since public schools don't teach religion, are there a lot of private schools that teach Mormonism?meganshay wrote:In Utah the public schools are majority Mormon in most districts.sarah wrote:I was happy to see that Chad was learning all of his states and capitals (5th grade standard) but then came the part about how he had to mark where all of the Mormon churches were in the U.S. I know reciting and reading scripture is also a big part of his homeschooling day.
The siblings are in public school, is that right? Are there private/parochial schools that are Mormon? Seems the Frankes would want their kids in those kind of schools. Near me, most parochial schools are Lutheran or Catholic (I'm in a Chicago suburb.) so I am just wondering.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I didn't understand what all the fuss was about regarding new pillows. Did I miss something? I also thought it kind of sad to be so grateful to get new socks because the ones you have have holes. As children, my brother and I always side-eyed any clothing we got for Christmas or birthdays. We told our mother that clothes are "middle of the year" things that she has to buy us and it's not meant to be a gift.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Yeah usually I thought you got clothes for school and around half term (Jan/Feb where I live) that's how it always was for me growing up and some clothes in between. If I ever got clothes for Christmas/my birthday they were so insignificant I don't remember. My mother also let me pick out my own clothes 90% of the time and I thank her to this day.
Ruby seems really controlling and unnecessarily bitchy and I am not enamored quite as much.

No, they don't have a religion class until high school. Then it's an extra class called Seminary.sarah wrote:Thanks, but since public schools don't teach religion, are there a lot of private schools that teach Mormonism?meganshay wrote:In Utah the public schools are majority Mormon in most districts.sarah wrote:I was happy to see that Chad was learning all of his states and capitals (5th grade standard) but then came the part about how he had to mark where all of the Mormon churches were in the U.S. I know reciting and reading scripture is also a big part of his homeschooling day.

I think there was a distance learning type school that had LDS owners but if I'm remembering back right there were legal (unrelated to the church) issues.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I can't remember in which vlog it was but recently Ruby said that she wouldn't let her kids (I think she was talking about Shari) read Harry Potter books because she had a misconception about them. So Shari is 13 years old, isn't she? I guess she asked for them when she was between 8-10 so it was in 2010/12 and Ruby still didn't know what the books were really about? Even the last movie was released in 2011 so she could get an idea about it.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Some people choose to stay in the dark about Harry Potter; especially those that are overly religious. I have a friend who reFUSES to let her kids read them. If you haven't read them yourselves and know what it's about except "ZOMG WITCHCRAFTZ!!" then how can you really know?! It's about love and friendship and honestly can be tied to Jesus in a way if you want it to (not gonna get into that because it could go too deep lol). They're excellent books! I am glad Ruby did finally let her kids read them though. Glad she's not a TOTAL tight ass!

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I'm on the fence about Ruby, I usually watch her vlogs if I'm desperate, I really like Shari and Chad, those kids are awesome.
Something that really rubbed me the wrong way was on JULIE'S birthday, all the girls got new beds and new bedding, way to use your child's birthday as an excuse to justify these purchases, it just feels so wrong. I can imagine in a family so large birthdays are exciting because it's about you, so for all of her siblings to get presents because it was convenient is so sad.

I agree. I felt bad for Julie after seeing Shari's room tour, that she got the same bedding as julie. It just didn't feel like a birthday gift if her siblings got the same thing at the same time.HowBoutThatSchnizel wrote:I'm on the fence about Ruby, I usually watch her vlogs if I'm desperate, I really like Shari and Chad, those kids are awesome.

How many beds did she buy? I noticed everyone seemed to be excited about pillows, which was odd. And I found it odd to get socks to share with your sister because everyone has holes in thier socks... I don't understand.queenieme wrote:I agree. I felt bad for Julie after seeing Shari's room tour, that she got the same bedding as julie. She got 2 beds. Julie and Abby share a bed and shari and Eve share a bed. Which I think is strange enough in itself.Whatshesaid_2015 wrote:How many beds did she buy? I agree that it isn't fair to Julie to gift her a bedspread for her birthday (that she has to share with Abby anyway) amd then give the same one to shari and Eve. It really takes away from her birthday which is sad. Julie doesn't seem like the type of kid who expects a lot of things but it seems so unfair to her. I get the feeling Julie is the one who is left out and pushed aside a lot because she seems to be quiter and shyer than the others.

I think parents are suppose to provide you with a bed, sheets, pillows, etc, independent of any birthday. Same goes for socks. So in my mind, she got a Frozen crafting kit and a puzzle from her parents and a set of bath bombs from her grandma, which she seemed to really like. It does seem like both Julie and Abby are kind of in the background of the family. Maybe because the are the middle children? I think Ruby could probably put more effort and time into those girls if she really tried.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Ruby got a shopping spree and makeup for her birthday. Why didn't she get a bag of socks and a bedspread?
I can't with this woman. She tries way too hard, doesn't seem sincere. The kids don't seem to have any fun.
The birthday presents was the last straw: passing off a bed that Julie AND abbie NEEDED as a birthday gift along with bedding is disgusting. You provide your children with a bed and bedding. Period. Not as gift, not a birthday gift and especially when shari and eve was getting the same deal you don't wrap up Julie's as gifts yet Abbie, shari and Eve got theirs just because. (Which they all should have anyway)
She's trying way too hard with YouTube it does not come naturally like bonnie. She totally mimicks her and also what's with meeting up with lots of you tubers to try and get herself more subscribers? It's totally transparent , ruby is trying to make this a money making thing and I'm over it.
Cannot deal with tight wads especially ones who wrap up needs as wants. Jumbo bag of socks? Come on!!!!!!

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I probably sound like a broken record but looking back on older vlogs, it's very clear that Ruby puts on a show these days.
She seems obsessed with attention. She loves the compliments about her looks. She loves hearing people say she's a great mother. She loves hearing people say she's a great wife. But she seems so freaking fake. I can't stand it.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I agree, I used to enjoy her vlogs when she first started YouTube. She was awkward but she was sweet and she came across as a great mother, but now you can definitely see the fake persona she is trying to portray and she seems like a different person than she was a few months ago. The thing I like the most about Bonnie's vlogs is that she has stayed exactly the same from her first video to her latest video and that is why people like her videos and that is why her subscribers keep increasing without any real effort on her part. She does collabs with her sister and that's it, she doesn't "network" and try make YouTube a job and that makes her authentic and relatable.
I feel like ruby is trying to be a lot like Ellie because of Ellie and jared's success on YouTube and I feel like she tries to portray that same "perfect wife, perfect mother, perfect life" thing that Ellie and jared try to portray and that's not real or relatable.
It's such a shame, because her old vlogs were enjoyable.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I know, I liked her old vlogs where she seemed like a genuine, sometimes tired and frustrated mom. (taking Russell into the lobby at the dentist so he could finish pouting) Now she has all of these vlogger friends. I really think she believes she's going to make it big on YT.kaylnoel wrote:I probably sound like a broken record but looking back on older vlogs, it's very clear that Ruby puts on a show these days.

I would understand it if they were cheap with themselves too, but come on, they have done a few giveaways (why spend money on that?!?) and also Ruby went with her husband on that NZ (or Australia? I can't remember) he had to go because of his work, but I'm sure her going there made the trip more expensive than it was.aprilfromengland wrote:Ruby got a shopping spree and makeup for her birthday. I think that Ruby knows that what she needs to do to make her channel more successful, but she just doesn't have it. I mean, considering how old her kids are, I think it would work better if Shari had her own beauty guru/lifestyle channel in a few years just like the girls from CuteGirlsHairstyles.

It was NZ, I watched one of the vlogs because she was 3 hours away from where I live so I decided to watch but I could barely watch a full one I get a "better than everyone" mentality from herNini12 wrote:I would understand it if they were cheap with themselves too, but come on, they have done a few giveaways (why spend money on that?!?) and also Ruby went with her husband on that NZ (or Australia?
