I think for a barely 13 year old who is just starting to use a smart phone, those are fair rules. If she were 16 it would be different.boredmamaneedsdrama wrote:So Shari got a phone. Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I thought the jitterbug prank was pretty funny and Shari handled it so well. She's a great person, sister, and daughter. Kevin was pretty funny too. I think the rules are reasonable, especially considering how up right Ruby is with rules already. And the rules are always the strictest for the oldest children, I'm sure she'll be more relaxed with things in a few years.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Well I think Kevin saying when she went to bed and then Shari jumping to 8 seeming to try and appease her mom was a bit odd but those rules don't seem too crazy for a stricter parenting style like the Franke's seem to embrace. I've seen worse and I'm happy they at least went ahead and got her one, Chad was hilariously trying to get the Jitterbug though.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I thought the cellphone prank was mildly funny until i read the comments. In them Ruby said that she could tell Shari was holding back tears throughout it. Who the heck posts the video knowing that that it how their daughter was feeling? And it makes me like Shari even more, she's a sweet kid. I thought it was odd that she jumped in with the 8 pm comment though - almost as if she knew that off camera Ruby would be introducing tougher rules than what the dad had suggested (giving it to them at bedtime).

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Today's video definitely reaffirmed my preference towards Abby. She seems like such a relatable, well behaved little girl who always gets lumped with Julie and swept aside in favor of the younger kids antics or Chad and Shari who have things Ruby focuses on (sports, home schooling, becoming a teenager and being able to do more things) I feel like the one thing Ruby even focuses on with Abby is she plays the harp which really isn't anything to do with the girl herself.

8 Passengers: Part One
Ruby reminds me so much if Jennifer in instances like that, the cell phone kind of reminds of the ridiculously strict parenting I feel Jennifer used making Bonnie's boyfriends pay for not one but three girls. I understand wanting to be strict with your children and make sure they aren't doing anything inappropriate but I would never let any son of mine pay (multiple times) not only for his date but her two of her preteen sisters to go as well. I just think Ruby would be just like Jennifer and do something like that.loulouinnz wrote:I thought the cellphone prank was mildly funny until i read the comments. Remember when Ruby said she'd be homeschooling another kid next year? Who do you all think it will be?

I think it's Russell. He's supposed to be starting kindergarten but I bet with his past delays she has chosen to keep him home with her for a year.liz749 wrote:Remember when Ruby said she'd be homeschooling another kid next year? Who do you all think it will be?

Maybe they're just very awkward on camera (like Beau and Emily), but does anyone else get the vibe that Kevin and Ruby have no chemistry? Like they're strained or something.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Am I the only one who finds it strange she asked an 8 year old "how many kids do you want?"
I get it, having children is important in the Mormon church... But she's 8, let her know there's more to life than just having kids.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
That bothered me as well! I stopped watching after that. It sounded like a subject that had clearly been discussed before. Sure it's great to encourage kids to do whatever they want to do when they grow up, but these poor little girls have motherhood (and subsequently being a housewife) pushed on them from so early on. Save thinking about children for when they're not children themselves, it's just silly to think about now. Instead spend time finding out their interests and hobbies and fostering those into something useful for down the road. I wonder if she ever asks the boys those questions. I don't have a huge problem with the Mormon faith, but that stuff definitely rubs me the wrong away. I'd be really interested in watching a Mormon family where the mother is the bread winner and the dad stays at home, or both parents work equally...it'd be interesting to see how the dynamics change because it's all same old same old with the Griffiths.staceybrax wrote:Am I the only one who finds it strange she asked an 8 year old "how many kids do you want?"

She asked Chad the same question in his Q&A if I remember correctly.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I have only watched a few of their vids... I have to agree Ruby's husband is hot! Lol I don't know what it is. It's not like he's actually sexy looking, but there's something about him!!!!! He's not Joely though
He has kind of an accent that doesn't sounds Utah-ian lol. Sounds like a barely there Louisiana accent. Do we know where he is from??
I know it's obvious that the youngest is a complete brat and a half, but is there something wrong with her mentally? I've seen very little of her, so I'm just curious and have really no reference to know one way or another.
Shari seems very sweet and embarrassed by her mother a lot. Super awkward.
Ruby looks like a fugged up version of Carlie Butler/Woods?

My guess was Russell as well but I'm hoping it's not. He loves school so much and really looks forward to it.ohmygoshyouguys wrote:I think it's Russell. 8 Passengers: Part One
Kevin went to school in Washington and they lived in Idaho for a few years according to some of the vlogs. I don't know if his childhood has been mentioned, I know there are vlogs (Shari's birthday and Thanksgiving are ones I think) where his parents appear
I'd be really disappointed if Russell doesn't get to go to kindergarten he needs interaction outside of his siblings and primary. At least Chad had that before Ruby pulled him out to homeschool.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I think Evie is just a naughty two and a half year old who is the baby of a large family. Babies of larger families seem to be more spoiled... take Ellie, for example. Ruby said all of her kids were like Evie is at that age. Not sure how true that is. Eve just seems a bit rotten, lol. I don't think there's really anything beyond that wrong with her.PostyMcPosterston wrote:I have only watched a few of their vids... I have to agree Ruby's husband is hot! Lol I don't know what it is. I hope she was joking about homeschooling someone next year. Or maybe it's that she will "homeschool" Eve instead of sending her to preschool?
Has she ever gone into details about Russell's struggles? I know he walked late and believe that she mentioned his legs being weak while picking out a bike but not sure if she's ever gone into detail. I wonder if she's ever even had him checked out.

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
I read Rubys blog before it was private. I remember Russell didn't walk until after 18 months and had gross motor delays. But cognitively there were no delays as far as I know. He seems like a normal 4 year old to me now. I also think Eve is totally normal, just kind of treated like a baby by the family. Actually I think her language skills seem ahead for a 2 year old. She's only a few months older than Jackson!

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
As someone who is an avid mountain bike rider, I do not get the appeal of the strider bikes. Can someone please explain? Can you add pedals after the child learns balance?
Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
A lot of people were also got that in the comments and Strider bikes YouTube page actually responded. They said a whole bunch of stuff about how it's a better starter bike because they learn how to balance on two wheels and with training wheels just help you learn how to pedal. The logic is if you learn how to balance, you can quickly pick up the pedaling part later on with a normal bike. There is no added pedal option. The bikes also weigh like 7 pounds and are supposed to hold up well so you can pass them down from kid to kid. I was curious too so I watched some of the videos (that they suggested in the comments) and the kids seem to like them and then can move to a regular bike at 3 or 4 with no issue.saltliferocks wrote:As someone who is an avid mountain bike rider, I do not get the appeal of the strider bikes. Anyways, the comments were filled with people saying she should have got the pedal bike because that's what Eve liked. I think the strode bike will be fun but considering Ruby, she probably won't buy a new bike at a reasonable time for Eve to make the switch and she'll be stuck with the strider for ever. Also, chads bike was on sale for 299...I'm all for investing in a nice bike but I can't believe Ruby paid for that and didn't even through her normal money fit. Kind of sad that Chads bike was stolen 4 years ago and he's been without once since. I'm glad he got a nice new one. I was also wondering if Russel got one? It said the strider is for up to age 5 so maybe he can use it to but I hope he didn't get skipped over and got his own also!

Re: 8 Passengers: Part One
Thanks, for explaining. I've noticed the bikes in other family vlogs. I just thought it was a hipster fad.
Bikes are a HUGE investment. A base model mountain bike is around a grand. Chad seemed very appreciative of his new cruiser. Utah is an area with some sweet trails. I imagine bike thefts are a problem in that area. I hope they don't leave the new bikes laying randomly in their yard, like they have their previous ones.
