Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
them filming her potty training doesn't bother me, and I highly doubt it would bother her when she's older, I mean everyone goes through it.
Also I don't know if it's just me, but I think it'd be cool to look back on, every little milestone is on video for you to go back and watch, and it makes for good laughs.
I don't see cullen and katie to be the type of parents to raise a child to be embarrassed of stuff like that, they are a fun loving joking bunch.
ETA: for comparison sake, my parents have pics of me taking a dump in my training potty, like my face, well, lets just say it's clear I am trying lol and I was never embarrassed as a preteen/teen of those pics, I distinctly remember me and my friends laughing over them at a sleepover once.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
I was finally able to watch the vlogs, and I thought they were tastefully done. Gaines was only topless for short periods of time, and honestly I don't see anything wrong with it. They never showed her on the potty, and they showed a pretty good depiction of what potty training is (Gaines crying the background, accidents, being "okay" with accidents). I'm glad they are daily vlogging what they go through instead of editing and faking their lives to please people on the Internet. I'm also glad people put up potty training vlogs because my niece is potty training, and I like to see all the different approaches.
The majority of the vlog Gaines was covered fine. I've seen so much worse from vlogging families. In comparison, the recommended section for that vlog a picture of a kid, completely nude in the potty. That's taking it too far. Potty training is a fact of life. I doubt Gaines is going to be mortified that this is on the Internet. Okay i finally added my opinion.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
I actually enjoyed this vlog more then yesterday's. Personal opinion, but I liked that they put a shirt on her. I know she is a toddler and there is nothing sexual, or at least to the normal adult there isn't, but I liked seeing her in a shirt. And it has nothing to do with the fact that she is a girl. I only have a daughter and am pregnant with a second daughter but I told my husband that if we have a boy someday, he is wearing those swimsuits that come with the rash guard. Anyway, I don't have any issue with her being in her underwear, i just don't like them showing it. But that's my two cents. I hope this made sense. I think I need sleep.

I think it was the one right before the potty training videos started. Near the end or at the end.zipadeedodah wrote:What video do they mention commenters? I don't watch every day so I must have missed that.

At the middle school age, if these vlogs were shown to their peers, it might be embarrassing. Perhaps they'll delete them or make them private as their kids grow older.formerctfxcer wrote:Anyone who is seriously embarrassed by things they did as a toddler or young child that every other kid did at that age has other self-esteem issues.

I agree. While you are exposing your children to millions on a YouTube channel, why don't parents use discretion and ensure their children are safe. YouTube should be more involved with family channels content since there seems to be no filter with some of these parents and I am thinking of other parents at this moment. Making a vlog with your children involved as part of your business brings great parental responsibility. I would have been amused with a commentary from Katie telling her experience with potty training while drinking the wine and leaving the actually event out.RootBeerFloatie wrote:Even if you argue that she may not be embarrassed or harmed by it in any way, it's still completely unecessary. They didn't have to film it, put it in the vlog, draw attention with the tags, or post the pictures on instagram. If they want those cute memories they can keep them to themselves. There's no good reason to share those moments with potentially millions of people, and so the risks far outweigh any good.

I have always thought they are the most appreciative of their viewers and it was nice to see them recognize those who regularly comment to them!WhatSheSaid wrote:Lol, I actually FROZE when he mentioned my name. I put in 'new panties' anyway, all that came up (for me) were mostly Victoria's Secret Hauls, its not like searching that takes you to some deep dark side of youtube.
Putting my 2 cents in, I have nothing wrong with them showing Gaines in her underwear. Its exactly the same as if she was in a swimming costume (as someone said before) and besides, it wasn't like "Look at my topless child, gawk at her", they didn't draw attention to it, her hair covered most of her back anyway and they didn't show much more than what was seen in the swimming vlogs.
People complaining about pee on the floor? A. Its paper towels, no legitimate pee (from what I saw). B. Its a potty training video for goodness sakes, there are many other things that could have been shown.
Yeeeeeessss

Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
I've never felt the need to comment on this forum before but this whole potty training thing is just.. too much.
Rule of thumb is, if you wouldn't show yourself in a certain situation (on the potty, in just your UNDERWEAR, in the bath) then perhaps you should show your child the same respect. ESPECIALLY if your audience isn't just family and friends, but instead an audience of over 400,000 people. It's called common sense and a lot of these family vloggers truly seem to lack that. I completely understand that they vlog their daily lives, HOWEVER, we don't need to see everything. They don't show or talk about when they use the bathroom or when they shower, so why show or talk about it when their kids do it?
I know most people don't like the Daily Bumps but I truly respect that they haven't ever shown ollie on the potty or even really talked about it at all. These kids are afforded little to no privacy, and it's just like at least give them some in this particular area of life.
As far as the tags, it makes me want to vomit. Can we stop calling them panties first of all!? They are underwear. Children's underwear. And by no means am I sexualizing a child in just underwear or on the potty.. because I'm not a pedophile or a weirdo, but I promise you there are at least a handful of weirdo's who are. I understand that they are going to look and sexualize the child regardless of what they are wearing or doing, but why make it any easier!?

I do think they try to be conscious for the most part..
I got a notification for the video today and it was titles POTTY TRAINING BREAK! and then when I went to watch it 15 mins later the title was changed to TAKING A BREAK!
I get the feeling Katie saw it and made him change it!

The difference is your parents pics of you talking a dump wasn't shared with an audience of over 400,000 strangers.kates_crush wrote:them filming her potty training doesn't bother me, and I highly doubt it would bother her when she's older, I mean everyone goes through it.

I understand they are good an wholesome people, but they can't reasonably think that every single person that watches their video is.

Not slamming here, just curious. Did they really expect their just turned two year old daughter to be completely potty trained in three days? I do get that some kids do pick it up overnight, and the boot camp is a great start, but she is just barely two. She _seems_ like she's doing great, and they look so disappointed.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
I laugh whenever parents try to force potty training and then get disappointed when it does work the exact way they want. First of all, the bladder isn't fully formed until closer to three. So accidents that occur before then should be expected. Second, you can't expect to introduce something completely new and different to a child and them get it in three days. She just had so many big changes in her life with a new baby and going to school now, why suddenly introduce ANOTHER new thing.lmmomSD wrote:Not slamming here, just curious. Not to mention, how weird is it for a child that still uses a binki to be working on potty training? Perhaps they should work on that since using a binki past a certain age actually can cause problems.

I don't really understand why they are pushing it this early and expecting it to work so quick. Like you said she JUST turned 2 and they also just had a baby. They shouldve did this at like 2 1/2 and i think they may have had more success in the 3 day training.lmmomSD wrote:Not slamming here, just curious. Personal but i know a woman that loves to push her kids to do everything "early" even when they arent ready. She tried to potty train her daughter as soon as she turned 2 and she had accidents alllllll the time until she turned 3..

I agree with you. They've never showed her on the potty. I just hate it when vloggers film their tot naked on the toilet which I see as a totally vulnerable position for a little one. Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
I think their biggest issue with potty training is they didn't give her enough "practice time". She had never even peed on the potty. I think early introduction to the potty is important, but going from her barely knowing the potty to severe potty bootcamp is a huge change on her.
Personal: we introduced the potty at 13 month. She peed the first time she sat, and pooped the next time. We celebrated, but Lord knows it was just lucky timing. By 18 months she had fully pee trained herself, and at 2 we stopped buying diapers. Poop was a struggle for a few weeks, but I expected nothing less. It doesn't happen over night, but you have to stay patient and keep with it.
They do seem very disappointed and surprised she didn't pick it up as much as they expected. Their expectations were far too high considering she had barely even sat on the toilet before this. Aside from their disappointment I think they are doing a great job and she'll pick it up soon enough! I'm also glad they decided to get her protection for sleep. Sleep potty training isn't really a thing, some kids are 5 or 6 or older before they stay dry through the night. It's not worth ruining her sleep cycle for.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
In today's vlog they conceded that it may take 4 or 5 days. Still, that seems optomistic to me. All the "3day" books and programs, I suspect, just have a nice ring to it so they use it in the title. As smart as she is, she is still emotionally barely two years old. Gaines is doing a fantastic job in my opinion. Maybe their disappointment stems from the fact that they had unrealistic expectations? Potty training is a process and all little ones are different.lmmomSD wrote:Not slamming here, just curious.
