That's nuts. Gotta be "fans". It's a POS. I'm surprised their fan base can support a bidding war on it.foreversoulmates wrote:Wander wagon is over $10,000 on ebay.

Re: Steps to Wander
100% it's fans that are bidding with no intention of ever paying, just look at the ratings of the bidders. I hope K&C are not actually thinking they are about to get a big payout for that van. Then again, even Corbin's ebay account also has a 0 rating, though that could be because he set up a new account so fans didn't know his real one. That could be another reason there are no real bids. I've never bought a really expensive item from eBay, but if I did it definitely wouldn't be from someone with a 0 rating. Another reason could be that the description says there are no leaks, then later says there is an oil leak.lmmomSD wrote:That's nuts. Gotta be "fans". It's a POS. Re: Steps to Wander
I started a threat over on GG because I never thought to come to this site for a thread about them.
Anyway, does anyone actually believe Corbin has a job? I don't. He used to have pretty low level TV news jobs, and that's not really something that translates into a regular freelance job. He's never actually said anything about what he does. I think he's just lying.
They were obviously desperate for money during their trip and now more than ever. Living for free and selling the crappy van just to make ends meet? Jeez, these two are really not good at planning!! That baby is going to put them into debt!! The cost of the birth alone is probably going to be several thousand dollars even with insurance. Plus they need a car and a new place to live and basic life expenses.
I'm really curious how they are going to find a place to live in Portland, which is now known for being extremely expensive and it's really, really hard to even find a decent place to rent. They certainly can't buy a place there.... My sister's tiny rental house in NE PDX, which needed a lot of work, sold for $600,000 this summer!
I do wonder if Missy and Bryan are helping them out financially. I thought it was weird that Corbin and Kelsey seemed to be babysitting the kids in the background and Corbin was the one driving them all around in DBs rental car.
Sorry for my long rant! I posted a few on GG, so I needed to catch up here!!

Re: Steps to Wander
With the increased viewership since their gender reveal, I think they are getting decent amount of money from Youtube. In the past 30 days, their channel had about two millions views. Assuming 25% of the viewers used ad blocke and they make $1.5 per 1,000 monetized views, they could possibly make (2,000,000 x .75 x 1.5) $2,250 a month from Youtube alone. After seeing how their friends' lifestyle changed from making vlogs on Youtube, I don't blame them for diving into it head first. Their channel will get even viewers once the baby arrives. I don't doubt they can move back to Portland once that happens.ewokfan11 wrote: They were obviously desperate for money during their trip and now more than ever. Traveling in a travel trailer is my hobby and started watching them when they started their Van Life. I then stayed on to watch some of their videos post traveling due to curiosity as I had never watched family vlogs on Youtube before. After watching them, Daily Bumps, and some others for bit, I do not find anyone of them worth following at all. They are just doing their everyday stuff with exaggeration. Keep saying the words "amazing" or "super cute" does not make things better than they are. Howevet, based on the money they all are making from Youtube, obviously a lot of people going to disagree with me.

Re: Steps to Wander
I could be wrong, but I feel like $2,250 a month is nowhere near what a family of three needs to live comfortably in the Portland area. My husband and I live outside DC and we need about three times that to make our modest mortgage, pay our recurring expenses, and put money in savings. And we don't have kids or an impending hospital delivery. I agree their channel grew a lot with the pregnancy announcement and subsequent milestones, but it remains to be seen whether or not that momentum will last without all the Daily Bumps appearances. Kelsey and Corbin seem pretty insistent that they won't be living in southern CA, so I wonder if the Daily Bumps subscribers will keep watching on a regular basis. The people that tuned in for the traveling might drop off soon as well. It seems like a big risk to not have day jobs to supplement YouTube income. They briefly talked about freelance work, but I don't think they're pursuing that very aggressively. I really think their only plan is to live for free in his relatives' condo and sell the van until they can bring in enough from YouTube.

Re: Steps to Wander
Don't forget that a % of their YT income goes directly to Fullscreen. And they have to pay their own taxes. It would be REALLY hard to live in PDX on just $2250 a month, especially with a baby. Rent alone for a place in PDX (not a suburb) is going to at least $1500/mo - that's going to be a small apartment.melonyogloo wrote:With the increased viewership since their gender reveal, I think they are getting decent amount of money from Youtube. Re: Steps to Wander
I am always surprised at how comparatively small YouTubers still afford to live. I subscribe to some pretty small YouTubers who get only from a couple thousand views to maybe 20,000 views on each of their videos and claim to live off of that amount. So who knows what the formula really is.
I still maintain one or both of them are getting substantial financial help from their parents or relatives. It would allow them to live above their means but still act like they don't have a lot of money. Not to go into a personal story here, but I know this from experience.

Re: Steps to Wander
$1.5 per 1,000 views is at the low end of the spectrum for channels with around 100,000 subscribers (after Youtube and Fullscreen take their cuts). If the agreement is $2 per 1,000 views, they could be making $3,000 per month. Every channel is different. They already got a free Lily Jade bags, more sponsors may come aboard around the due date of the baby. They also have Facebook, intagram, and twitter ad revenues.
I agree that it is not enough to live in PDX comfortably, but they have to start somewhere as a wannabe Youtube star. If there is a dip in views, they can just cameo in videos of their circle of succesfful Youtubers to bring it back up. If they can write better scripts and work on their actings, it may work out for them (Corbin's expression in the Ferris Wheel was just too fake).

Re: Steps to Wander
True, it's hard to say how much revenue these channels actually bring in. Plus, if you're not putting anything into retirement, savings, future college tuition, etc. then that frees up a lot of spending money. My husband and I choose to put 40% into savings and try to watch our spending carefully, but conversely we could be spending every penny we earn and to the outside world it would look like we make a lot more money than we do. I wouldn't be surprised if smaller channels that claim to live off YouTube alone are doing just that.fossilfinger wrote:I am always surprised at how comparatively small YouTubers still afford to live. They're definitely getting free room and board from Corbin's aunt and uncle, which is huge. This is based entirely off of my own estimations, but I think Corbin comes from a comfortably middle-class immediate family, but I don't think they're wealthy to the point of subsidizing their grown son beyond picking up a few expenses like cell phone bills and loaning him the family car. If they were wealthy, they would have found Kelsey and Corbin an apartment in the city near her midwives (or given them a down payment and they would be house hunting right now) and they would have bought them a car, or at least they would have given them a down payment for a car payment. Not to go into my personal story, but that's the way it works for a lot of grown children from affluent families where I grew up. Maybe they are throwing them a thousand dollars or so a month to make ends meet, it's entirely possible. But judging by their current situation, I'm guessing not.

Re: Steps to Wander
I'm not even sure how they will be able to rent a place in PDX without a cosigner with just a non-reliable YT income. They really should go back to Idaho and live at home and save some REAL money before trying to live in PDX again.melonyogloo wrote:I agree that it is not enough to live in PDX comfortably, but they have to start somewhere as a wannabe Youtube star.
I honestly think they did the road trip because they couldn't afford living in PDX to begin with! Kelsey wasn't working and I'm pretty sure Corbin wasn't either. I think they expected the road trip vlogs to go viral and make them YT stars (like DBs), but instead they had to rely on Patreon and family/DBs handouts.
Where are people getting the idea Corbin's family has a lot of money? They are both from really rural Idaho and are most likely blue collar/middle class - just like Missy and Bryan.
It also bugs me that they lived in PDX less than a year and they claim to be from Portland every chance they get. As a native Portlander, PEOPLE LIKE THAT ANNOY ME.

Re: Steps to Wander
I agree that the trip came about because they couldn't afford rent in Portland after Corbin quit his job. I think he took something remote part-time that he could do from the road. It probably wasn't enough to support two adults in Portland, but it was maybe enough for gas money and groceries. Has Kelsey ever held a full-time job since she graduated with her degree? How odd.

Oh, jeeeez! That's only a good degree if you are planning on going to grad school and eventually doing professional research or teaching. No wonder she couldn't find a job....melonyogloo wrote:Anthropology

I'm from southern Oregon and totally understand. Oregon is great, don't get me wrong, but the hype is really annoying. It's always been great, but now hipsters love it, so it's a "thing "now. It will fade in time.ewokfan11 wrote:I'm not even sure how they will be able to rent a place in PDX without a cosigner with just a non-reliable YT income. Re: Steps to Wander
I'm frankly surprised they didn't stay in southern CA to grow their channel via constant Daily Bumps cross overs, a la the Johnson family. I could have sworn Missy would just lock them up in a guest room of the mansion and refuse to let them leave.
