Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
To be honest, I highly doubt they were giving the company all that attention without sponsorship dollars attached. They want to be able to say that it was a service they genuinely used and now suddenly they've partnered with them. Maybe their network told them to do all of that to get the company's attention in order to secure a sponsorship. But it was so staged and so repetitive that I feel like the sponsorship was established from day one and it was just clever marketing. They've been disingenuous in the past about their financial relationship with the diet cleanse.
Are vloggers legally required by the FTC to disclose if they're being paid to talk about a brand? I think this goes on a lot with vloggers and I wonder if it's not uncommon at all for viewers to never get that disclose. I know YouTube asks that creators check the "paid promotion" box when uploading the video, which is new. It sounds like it's up to the creators to make sure their in compliance when disclosing paid promotions, YouTube doesn't really care as long as you're not violating their ad policy and their butts are covered by giving you the option to check the box. They say different jurisdictions require different disclosures for paid promotions and it depends on the brand too. I just wouldn't be surprised if there's a ton of product placement and endorsements going on in all of these channels that the viewer never realized is paid for because the creators don't have to disclose.

I live near them and use shipt as well. They have been using for a while and though I can't imagine two at home parents needing this service, good for them on the sponsorship!
It is wonderful service and up charge on groceries is worth the convenience if you work extended hours and have no one at home to go to groceries!

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
As an addendum to my post above, it seems that YouTube isn't legally responsible for its creators. It's on the shoulders of the creator and the company paying for the advertisement, so it really depends on how self-aware both entities are about the risks of being slapped with an FTC violation. I'm speaking broadly here about all YouTubers, not specifically Katie and Cullen, because I have no idea about the details of their partnerships. Though I noticed that some vloggers have started checking the now required "paid promotion" box for their videos so that the disclosure pops up and I don't see that on Katie and Cullen's video yesterday?

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
They might have not been paid for the previous deliveries, but I'm sure they were gifted the groceries. I don't believe they were giving away free promotion of that service for absolutely nothing. That would be dumb.
Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I agree, but less YouTube money might not be a bad thing if something happens they've learnt to live on less. I think it will be telling what their next house will be with how they are doing with YouTube. I never understood why B+M are doing as so well.lmmomSD wrote:I don't get it. Actually, I do. These guys don't pander to the little kids, and their views show it. They're running around 50,000 views a day, and DB is running over 300,000. And the Halloween one already has 3 million, and that stupid Troll dress up one has over a million too. So, I guess the money is in handing over your dignity and behaving like children who have come into a fortune with no adult supervision. Because Gaines is 10 times cuter than Ollie, and actually says the things attributed to her.

At least they're advertising for something they actually seem to use.

I agree, I feel they do this with most of their sponsorships that's why I'm not phased by it. It's not something they use once and throw away, whatever happened to all that product Motorola sent bryan? It was never used again, if he was smart he would have taken that stuff to the cabin to show off them using it.sataninwonderland wrote:At least they're advertising for something they actually seem to use.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
It's just crazy too me that i have been away from this site for days and we are still debating and arguing about Cullen's red eyes and silly behavior. Who cares if he smokes? I said it before bt I'll say it again, it was like 9:30 am and the man is a night owl. He was tired, he wasn't high or drunk.. My lord. And to say that Katie should now "proofread" the vlogs before he uploads them so that kind of behavior isn't in the vlogs in the dumbest thing ever.. Cullen ALWAYS acts like that, i didn't think he was acting weirder than usual and it surely wasn't behavior that should be censored by Katie before it was uploaded. Ya'll are really just blowing shit out of proportion bc you don't have anything else to gripe at them about, which i guess is a good thing for them but it gets old as hell here. Maybe i should have just not came back here today.. damn.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I don't think it's lazy at all, they have two kids, if i didn't have to drag my kids to the store i wouldn't. Not all people enjoy going to the grocery store. If it was something we had in our area i would do it too, and i have zero good reasons not to shop myself. I pass 2 grocery stores on my way to and from work every day and would STILL get mine delivered... Especially during cold/flu/stomach bug season.RootBeerFloatie wrote:How lazy are they that between two stay at home parents they can't go shop for groceries?

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I get what you're saying. They've never struck me as super organized, type-A people. The house is always kind of a mess, they talk about letting the laundry pile up, they stay in their pajamas most of the day, etc. I think that's just their personalities. I also think there's a lot of truth to the idea that the less structure people have, the less productive they are. Busy people get stuff done because they have to be efficient and manage their time.RootBeerFloatie wrote:How lazy are they that between two stay at home parents they can't go shop for groceries?

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
They don't have to drag their kids to the store though, because there's two of them, and one could easily stay home. I just think it's silly to pay someone to run errands as not to interrupt their busy day of sitting at home, talking to a camera, not cleaning their house, and trading in their childrens' privacy for money.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I won't call them lazy for using the service yet because I don't think they'll continue to use the service once the deal is done. It's a business deal. I don't think it's a good fit for them. Most of their vlog footage that's shot outside of their house is done at the store. I do believe that sometimes they go out just for vlog footage. Let's face it, they aren't the most active people.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I just don't understand hating on someone bc they don't want to go to the store.. Who cares if they want to pay a little extra to get them delivered? Seems petty to me. Plus they used the service way before they were being sponsored by them.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I just think it's pure laziness. If it were Bryan and Missy, people would be losing their minds. A lot of people are enamored with Cullen and Katie, I get that. I'm not, and I'll call them out on laziness accordingly.

I think the Lumps were slammed a couple of weeks ago for using a delivery service.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I do think it's a stretch to have two stay-at-home parents telling their audience about what a life saver it is to have a grocery delivery service. I think it's a good concept and will appeal to their adult viewers who work. I do think it's hard for them to continue to be relatable to adult viewers when their job is to talk into a camera for a few minutes every day and edit it into a 10 minute clip.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
Exactly what I was going to say. They can leave one parent at home to go get hair cut, nails done, and take Gaines to gymnastics. Why not to get groceries? Especially when they are supposed to be saving for a new house.RootBeerFloatie wrote:They don't have to drag their kids to the store though, because there's two of them, and one could easily stay home. Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I also think the delivery service is pure laziness and if it were any other YouTube family they'd be getting slammed for having groceries delivered constantly when both parents are home.
I can understand using it on occassion, we all get tired but they've stalked about this weekly for awhile now.
