The likes thing was really getting on my last nerve. I almost posted an equally obnoxious comment. I hate how he tries to hoodwink the viewers into a disingenuous reason for them clicking the like button. It's all about Business, Business, Business and nowt else. I hit the dislike button.lmmomSD wrote:I gotta say it, they're starting to get obnoxious about the likes. And too bad going to buy a big new car only got 3,000 likes. Oh well. Wonder if C&K are a little irritated that they have worked for so long to grow their channel, and Kelly starts one and two days later has 10k subscribers.

I wonder this too with Cullen's tense look when sitting next to and talking (mostly Katie taking) about Kelly's channel beginning success. Yet, Jay and Kelly have added to their vlogs over the years.
A car review....is there a financial arrangement here or not?
I kinda see if they emphasize like and subscribe button because it is a business or their only income. But they do it more than others or I can see the obnoxious aspect. There is likely more to this and how their paid.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I am interested in this as well... a smaller youtuber I watch Ms.Bonnie Harris, posted yesterday that she wasnt sure if she would continure vlogmas because her last video had less than 300 views in 3 hours or something like that.... It turned me right off. It is all about the money for all youtubers and any of them who say otherwise are lying liars who lie.Enchantedbybeautyy wrote:I've heard from multiple youtubers this week that youtube is changing. Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
The like thing turned me off too and it doesn't seem to be Cullen's normal behavior. I think he's stressing and there is one thing about being real on YouTube (which I'm all for) and not being rude. I took his upset about the likes being a bit rude. I think he's putting a little bit too much "effort" the last week or so into making the blogs a bit more "fun" maybe. Like I said, I think he's worried about YouTube and I really hate to see them change.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
Some users have end slates that encourage users to like and subscribe, and I feel that's the best way to go. You're reminding those who might like to, but it's at the end of the video so anyone who doesn't want to see that can close it without missing anything.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
From what I saw from a youtuber who had contacted youtube, youtube claims that they haven't changed the algorithm dramatically (they always change it anyway) and a lot of the issues they are happening such as people being unsubbed and whatever they don't know why. The youtuber I watched and a couple other though have said that they do believe something has happened as even when their videos are being "promoted" they are older videos which have already done well. I think there is some speculation that Youtube is now promoting videos with the potential to go viral instead of rewarding videos of people who post regularly and are trying. I'm not sure if that helped at all, basically I think the way Youtube promotes videos has changed so smaller youtubers aren't getting as many views, bigger youtubers are getting older videos recommended and a lot of youtubers are having subs randomly unsubbed (when they haven't) which obviously hurts smaller youtubers a lot.Enchantedbybeautyy wrote:I've heard from multiple youtubers this week that youtube is changing. That makes sense, thank you. That does suck for newer youtubers with good content though.Lurker4Life wrote:Enchantedbybeautyy wrote:I've heard from multiple youtubers this week that youtube is changing. Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
They shouldn't be irritated by that, but Kelly and Jay do have it easier for sure. C&K had around 5K when they announced they were pregnant with Gaines. I think that's why Cullen was so defensive about doing Youtube fulltime. When he started calling himself a fulltime Youtuber, they didn't have much of an audience. I'm not sure I would have supported my husband being home to make videos for 5K people. If we're being honest, it wasn't Cullen who made their channel grow. It was Gaines and the pregnancy.lmmomSD wrote:I gotta say it, they're starting to get obnoxious about the likes. And too bad going to buy a big new car only got 3,000 likes. Oh well. Anyways, when I was watching the video of Katie and her sister, I noticed how unhealthy Katie's hair looks. I don't think she's changed it much in the time they've been vlogging. I think she's due for a new cut. Her hair doesn't flatter her face anyway.

I know I'm probably alone in this but I have to roll my eyes when "super busy day" for vloggers is running to get groceries (what happened to shipt?), cooking and going to TWO parties! I feel like that's so out of touch with reality !

I've said a couple of times, I love her hair the darker for it was when she was pregnant with Gaines. It was a light brown with caramel highlights, and so flattering. So much better than the light blonde on her! But it's her decision, I guess. I'm chuckling at myself, because if I vlogged and someone on some forum was preaching about what color my hair should be, I would be flipping them off!Lovethesnark wrote:They shouldn't be irritated by that, but Kelly and Jay do have it easier for sure. That's barely clickbait lol.zipadeedodah wrote:Once they stop this stupid clickbait shit I will watch another video
The clickbait that's annoying is "toddler arm deformity" or "toddler falls off cliff". They're just using normal titles in a different format. You want your title to get noticed.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I felt this might have to do with the companies buying ads...they naturally want to reach the biggest audience. It is easy to see they want to see a clip or vlog with millions of views vs thousands. Interesting how YouTube says they haven't changed anything.Enchantedbybeautyy wrote:That makes sense, thank you. LOL.. I might feel the same way, but sometimes you might not realize something until someone else points it out. I'm sure if she watched the video she noticed the difference in their hair. Kelly's looked nice and healthy. Katie's looked a little fried. I don't think it's postpartum hair problems. I wonder if she's still letting Cullen cut her hair? Maybe Cullen could send her off to the spa for some pampering as a Christmas gift?lmmomSD wrote:I've said a couple of times, I love her hair the darker for it was when she was pregnant with Gaines. Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
I thought Katie's darker hair color during her pregnancy with Gaines was more flattering too!
Regarding the Likes... My understanding is that audience engagement is a really important metric in determining a channel's income potential. Sponsors decide which YouTubers they want to work with, and how much they are willing to pay, using this data. I'm not sure exactly where the "sweet spot" is in terms of encouraging engagement, because it's clear that people do hit the Like button more consistently if they're reminded to do so, and they do tend to comment more often when asked leading questions... Yet nobody enjoys being reminded to "engage" and people have a high level of suspicion and other negative feelings about YouTube incomes supporting expensive lifestyles (leading to comments implying that YTers must get paid for Likes, or that nobody is getting unsubscribed from channels and YTers should stop begging for subs, etc). Cullen is experimenting with different tactics to increase viewer engagement metrics, but as is sometimes the case with running jokes in the vlogs, he doesn't quite know when to stop.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Blame the Mailman Part 7
Let me guess-- today's vlog was sponsored by Oreo. Noticed the Peter Pan peanut butter product placement too. Two jars out on the counter that the camera lingered on. If it wasn't actually sponsored, by Oreo, it was definitely product placement. I know they gotta make a living, but wow-- so obvious.
That Christmas train was very cool. Wish they had had something like that where we lived when my kids were little!
