Re: Cullen and Katie: House Woes Part #9
The home does say under contract on MLS.
I am hung up on one thing though, was it this house that they stated wasn't even on the market yet or was it the one with the pool and water leak issue? Bc the house we assume is the new one has been on the market since November of last year...
I do love the home, the location is amazing and the schools there are some of the best in that area. I don't like that kitchen AT ALL, not my style in the least and if it were mine it would be gutted so im excited to see what updates they do.

Re: Cullen and Katie: House Woes Part #9
They're going to have to do a lot more to that house than just change out bathroom and light fixtures like they said. I hope they factored all of the updates into their budget, or I expect to see a lot more sponsored videos in the near future. That master bathroom is hideous, and the kitchen needs work. I'm not saying it all needs to be done right away, but I'd have a hard time going from a newer house with nice finishes to one that looks straight out of the 90's. It is a gorgeous house, but cosmetically it needs some serious TLC.

That's a beautiful house. But it needs a lot of updates, the kitchen is ugly, needs new fixtures everywhere. It'll be interesting to see how they decorate. I love all of the fireplaces too!
But that price. Yikes. I didn't think they'd go for something so expensive.

Yep, and in my experience, real estate photos don't show you how old and worn out things actually are and I wouldn't be surprised if quite a bit in that house is showing its age. I'd say every bathroom in that house and the kitchen need an overhaul in order to not look dated by about 25 years, but I don't think they're going to do any major renovations. They say they only plan to switch out fixtures. They didn't do any major improvements to their previous house, unless you count some smaller projects right before putting it on the market. Yes, it does kind of fit them in terms of the dated interior. I think it's priced based on a highly desirable location and the fact that it's huge.askeptichere wrote:They're going to have to do a lot more to that house than just change out bathroom and light fixtures like they said. I know a lot of people were skeptical that they were actually looking at houses in the $650K range due to the fact that they're a smaller channel that isn't growing leaps and bounds, but I always assumed that was in fact their range given the price of the house they showed themselves touring. People don't typically seriously tour homes with their agent that are significantly out of their price range. It's amazing to me that they went from a $214,000 home to an almost $650,000 home in five years based off of YouTube income alone. Yes, they got to roll the equity they had in the previous house plus any appreciation into this next house. But I wouldn't be surprised if around half of their monthly income is going to that house payment, unless we're all seriously underestimating their YouTube income.

they might of had a big chunk saved for a deposit plus they have the sale from their house?sataninwonderland wrote: But that price. Yikes. I didn't think they'd go for something so expensive.
they might had that fully payed that off the old house we dont know?
Katie always seems pretty good at budgeting
in Australia that price is cheap for the size of the house (near us houses are around 500k or more for 2 living 4bed 2 bath tiny garage/backyard
but I have no idea on the us market

Re: Cullen and Katie: House Woes Part #9
They're never going to renovate that house. They have no motivation. It takes them over a year to put together a nursery. I think they might be in over their heads.
Re: Cullen and Katie: House Woes Part #9
Just seeing the shower, in this price range wouldn't you expect the house to be up to date as well as have fixtures that are better materials. For example, at this price, I would expect slate or tile showers and up to date fixtures. I am assuming they had a price reduction with the amount of work needed in many of these rooms? Otherwise, I would have found a beautiful lot and built the house of my dreams including factoring in a pool. I get the location factor since I think E+J lot is awful but in this price range you have a lot to work with.Playsinrain wrote:Cullen & Katie: Movin On Up.. lolaskeptichere wrote:Looks like we need a part 10. I would have a hard time buying this high with the unknown with YouTube.

Re: Cullen and Katie: House Woes Part #9
Just casually looking at the real estate listings in their town, you can buy a nicely updated 5 bedroom home with a minimum of 5,000 sq/ft in good school districts for way, way less than $650K. I'm assuming they didn't pay list price just based on how long the house has been on the market, but I wouldn't assume it was a significant reduction. I'm not very familiar with the area, maybe this neighborhood and it's country club are super exclusive and they paid the big bucks to get into the highly desirable area. I'm kind of shocked they chose to purchase a more expensive home than her sister and her lawyer husband. They're either doing way better with YouTube than we realize, or this is an attempt to "keep up the Jones" and they're house poor now. Or Katie has a large trust fund they're choosing to dip into. It's also going to be expense to furnish a house that size.tratra58 wrote:Just seeing the shower, in this price range wouldn't you expect the house to be up to date as well as have fixtures that are better materials. I have to disagree. Their children's rooms seemed like something they wanted to have perfect before they showed off. There are so many ugly features in that home that I'm sure they'll be changing them within a decent amount of time.Lovethesnark wrote:They're never going to renovate that house. The new house is almost 1000sq ft bigger than Kelly and Jays. That is freaking huge.

650K, plus they're going to do renovations? I would be scared if I were them, with the slow rate their channel is growing. But Katie has to keep up with Kelly. I don't think she is so much trying to keep up with E&J or DB, but she has definite expectations from her upbringing. I hope they're not biting off more than they can chew.crew96 wrote:650k?! But the nurseries just needed paint and decor. Not major renos like the master bath needs.sataninwonderland wrote:I have to disagree. Re: Cullen and Katie: House Woes Part #9
My other question, does anyone play golf? I agree, just looking at a few homes in this area on Zillow, I could see less expensive, newer and nicer homes. If I were to guess....I think it is a large trust fund and if true, how fortunate for them:) I am likely a minority since I didn't like this house. But, I didn't like JK's house either which is also needs updating.HashtagBlessed wrote: Just casually looking at the real estate listings in their town, you can buy a nicely updated 5 bedroom home with a minimum of 5,000 sq/ft in good school districts for way, way less than $650K.
