Its certainly not what I would have picked with their budget but Im guessing the biggest draw was location.

I am sure location was the reason, but living so close to family isn't always a positive. Yet, I do think this is the house Katie would choose and everyone has different taste in decorating/homes.

I personally would have built and had a good designer help with picking out all the flooring, cabinets, paint etc. and put in a pool which would be used a lot in Alabama. Ellie's house was in Houzz for a reason because it was decorated beautifully with a designers help with tile, marble, furnishing etc. I would not be too quick to get rid of the gold fixtures since I think gold/brass fixtures are coming back. However, I would get rid of the fiberglass shower insert, but that would be expensive to tile.

I am not even that crazy about their lot which seems to be on a slope? And these large homes are not that far apart, but a distance from the road.

Oh I totally agree, I wouldn't want to live on the same street. Being in the same town is close enough for me!! haha.

This house is likely exactly what Katie always imagined her living in when she grew up with a family of her own. Its a McMansion, very dated but as someone else previously said that's pretty much Katie and Cullen to a T anyways.
This home is a status symbol to them, its large, its in a great neighborhood, and theyre part of the club.

I haven't ever seen Katie seem to think she needs to "have it all" like her mom and sister. She was raised in a certain lifestyle but they live very basic life. Gaines wears Target play clothes, Katie wears basic stuff, they do hand me downs. I just don't see what y'all are seeing I guess.

Question b/c i'm not well versed in the subject.. Would Cullen have an inheritance from his dad already (assuming there was one to have)? Would they put off splitting the estate until Cullen's sister was released from jail or would they have already done that? I'm not sure how those proceedings work and I wonder if there is a time frame legally that they would have to follow or if they would put it off until she was home? I know they seem to be putting off his memorial service until them (I know the two things are not at all connected, the reading of the will and the memorial service)

I am not well versed either, but I never got the impression Cullen's family was affluent like Katie's family? But I could be all wrong on this one. Illness, unfortunately can drain savings pretty quick too. I am assuming you need to have a pretty good income/down payment to qualify for a loan with this price range?

I agree and I am actually a little surprised at their choice in a home. But they do seem to being buying closer to what her sibling/parents have in regards to cars and homes. Not that this is a bad thing.

we don't know the dynamics or conversations once the cameras are off. they may act like happy families, but there could be snarkiness and expectations from parents that aren't seen. katie's parents are well to do and may very well make comments about their old home being a starter home and now that they have children there is more expected of them... and that's why they've purchased a stiff-with-class home.

I don't know...I would think expectations would be more in line with professions with Katie's parents. YouTube is a nontraditional occupation/less respected vs a doctor or lawyer and YT income is uncertain. And their sold home wasn't a dump, but a nice home in a good neighborhood.

I never got that impression either, and I was pretty much just talking hypothetically. I don't know that there would be much left to split after his medical bills and such.

What would be hard for me as a mom would be watching my daughter and/or son's family life up close and seeing some negative aspects with what they do or say to each other. It would be hard not to tell Cullen he needs to get up earlier or see the YouTube lax disorganized lifestyle. Parents of adult children do not see daily life like this which is a very good thing!

I think they are both concerned with keeping up with Kelley and their "friends" (E&J and DB). They immediately started looking for a house AS SOON AS Kelley moved, which was righaround the time E&J moved into their new house. IMHO, I think they have a bad case of "keeping up with the Joneses".

ehhh.. maybe? But they had said since they moved into their current house that they had planned on moving in 5 years, and they are right on that time line, idk if its so much keeping up with the jones' or if it's just coincidental that it's happening like this. Kelly and jay had no plans on moving when they bought the house they are in now.. it just "fell in their lap" as they put it.

I do think that they got more bang for their buck than DB did for this house. C&K have 5 bedrooms, so perfect for their growing family, DB are already out of bedrooms and are planning more kids. Nothing wrong with kids sharing rooms but if im dropping a million bucks on a house there better be enough bedrooms for everyone, plus some!

I totally agree with this. Katie does not seem to need that "status" like her mom and sister. She seems very down to earth, buys a ton of clothes and shoes at target, doesn't seem to be wrapped up in status at all. They seem pretty frugal to me, we don't see high end purchases from them often.

I do like DB home which is beautifully decorated and I see their expectations is the boys will share a room if needed. Yet, I agree why didn't they find a home with more bedrooms and this house they've spent a good deal of money with renovating kitchens, pools etc. I don't think Cullen and Katie expect to renovate on this level as DB or perhaps they do? It is amazing what you can do with an older home when you spend lots and lots of money

I wouldn't assume it would be Katie who would return to work, but Cullen. Katie wants to be a stay at home mom.

I 100% believe they can afford that house. They had money prior to YouTube and actually know how to manage it, unlike the other vloggers.
