I also gotta agree that it's not the quantity of screen time so much as the quality. My kids watched some movies when they were little. My son was obsessed with Toy Story-- but they mostly watched PBS and Nick Jr. They LOVED Zaboomafoo! And Bear in the Big Blue House, and Blue's Clues. And I watched _with_ them, and we sang along, and talked about what they were watching. And we read a lot. Bryan and Missy plant Ollie in front of a screen and go off to do whatever. Missy plays on her phone, and Bryan does whatever it is that he does. But there's so much that they don't do for Ollie's development. They don't correct his speech, and they don't model the right way to say things, etc. They seem determined to not help him.

If yesterday's vlog was sponsored, why did I have to sit through two, yeah TWO commercials? One appeared in the middle of the vlog. I don't have adblock on my phone.

Do you think they approached the property owners and asked for a free stay because of their viewer count? I'm guessing this is what they do whenever they go anywhere now.

And yah... The entire vlog was a commercial for the villa and I had to sit through ads.... shady.

What Swiffer doesn't know is that Finn swiffers the house day and night...night and day...when Missy was contacted for this ad, she knew it was perfect. All she had to do was catch Finn looking happy just before his duties began.

When they have to declare that the video is sponsored, doesn't it mean that they are being paid by the company they're representing? That would be why they cannot monetize the video. If they do a product placement, they're usually sent the item for free in exchange for a review?

I'm assuming that every time it seems they're sponsored, but it's not stated in the vlog, they're probably being given the item/trip for free. It's possible the Disney trip was paid for by them, especially since they said they did, but I'm almost positive that they stayed at Legoland for free.

I did not watch any of the vlogs of EJ at the Bumps, but have seen a couple of comments in the EJ thread about Missy side eyeing them etc, I read up to page 6 on this thread but then gave up ...can anyone give me a quick run down of what the relationship/dynamic was like between the "besties 4 lyf" was like this time?

Wow....what did they do yesterday? Stay in the house ALL DAY! What did they do today? Go to freaking Disney for the waterpark. Like come on! There is so much more in orlando than Disney and Universal and thd theme park industry. Go do something different. When the best title you could come up with on VACATION is about gummy eggs, you're vacationing wrong. I hate watching these dinguses travel.

I only watched some of a couple of the vlogs with E & J (I can't stand Ellie and Jared, and can't stand B&M's vlogs with them), but in my opinion, Missy seems so over Ellie. Whether it's because Ellie is a bitch, Missy is jealous of her TTC, or it's just fizzled out like all of their other friendships...it just really seems like Missy isn't interested in Ellie anymore and is even annoyed by her.

She wasn't hanging out with Ellie much, and in a picture WITH Ellie, she only mentioned the chickens.

I can't blame her. I'm with Missy on this one.

I get that it was product placement and ads can run, but this was the first time for me that a second ad played during one of their videos about 3/4 off the way through.

Do they have control over how many ads get placed within a video?

Like it's not enough that they are getting a $1,000/night place for free, they have to run two commercials during their video... It seemed very strange.

Also, when people win cars and big vacations and stuff on game shows they have to pay taxes on the prizes... I wonder if they are supposed to be claiming these gifts for tax purposes and paying taxes on the value of them. Probably not but would be so amazing to see Bryan in court for tax evasion....

I honestly only watch them with adblock now. So, I didn't notice, but I do know one YouTuber who does "commercial breaks" on long videos. I think they do have some control over it. I don't make YouTube videos, but maybe someone with more knowledge could help you.

Ok, did a little bit of quick googling and it seems videos that are 10+ minutes can have multiple ads appear but I couldn't figure out if it's the user that controls that or their network that would have the control over it. Hrmmm... Someone is getting greedy though.

If the video is over 10mins, the user can choose to put how many ads they want and where.

The YouTuber has the option to choose a skippable ad at the beginning, non skippable ad at the beginning, and ads in the middle. It can be any variation of this.

Pediatricians recommend no more than one hour of screen time a day. When my kids were growing up we had no TV during the week unless it was for something special.

I'm in my mid 30's, and even I got 1-3 hours of tv a day. Hell, Wednesdays were family 90210 night when I was 10 until high school graduation. I turned out just fine.

Honestly, screen time isn't so bad, as long as it doesn't completely replace other interactions. My older kids (6,8) get around 2 hours of screen time per day, and my toddler gets about 2 hours direct screen time, and likely another 2 hours passive (on in the background). All three kids have their own tablets, and they get pretty much unfettered access to them whenever they want. Some rainy weekends, or cold Canadian winter dats, they probably get a solid 8+ hours of screen time. Oh well.

They're perfectly adjusted kids, well spoken, at peer level in all subjects, and advanced in language development. French and English. Completely neuro-typical. They're very well behaved, and able to make friends easily. We're also avid outdoorsy types, hikers, campers, museum goers, readers, etc.
Screen time can be a great thing for kids. My 3 year old could read her alphabet at 22 months old. Lowercase by just before her third birthday. As long as parents make sure their kids have a well rounded life experience, it shouldn't matter whether a kid gets no screen time or hours a day.

(Obviously the bumps are shit about the "well rounded life experience" bit. They abuse screen time)

Your first point reminded me of our "thursday LOST night's" or Survivor nights lol... those were actually fun because we'd play games during commercial breaks.
