Re: BEplus3: Forcing Family (BritneyandBaby Part 26/27)
Exactly because you have no point here. Lol. It's not a word!!! Just because you use it in your writing (which......yikes!) doesn't make it a word.KatherineLouvain wrote:I work for a worldwide billion pound company but whatever, I'm here to gossip about Britney, not start an argument about pointless shit. I'm not saying anymore on this.Jwhite_momof4 wrote:Lol, what kind of content do you write? And what kind of publication is it? I can't imagine any kind of proof-reader being okay with that word being used because it's not a word. Lol. It's made up and doesn't make sense. If you say irregardless, it's the exact same thing as saying you hold regard.KatherineLouvain wrote: Christ, don't have a cow. It has mixed opinions, Google it. I use it, at work, where I write content for a living. You don't have to use it.

It exactly like saying "I don't not care" instead of saying "I don't care".

And now that you know it's not a word, maybe you should start using regardless instead lol. Just sayin'. It's not a word. It makes no sense.

Bit harsh to say I should be fired given my stuff gets proof read but whatever. Some people think it's a word and that's ago, but even so it's an ONLINE FORUM where people say "should of" and "literally" without getting told they should be fired. I can see why people have stopped coming here now.

Irregardless this is a gossip forum and not an English class. You made your point and you can drop it now

While this isn't a forum specifically about grammar, "regardless" is the correct version of the word and no publication company worth their salt would publish information with the word "irregardless" in it.KatherineLouvain wrote:Bit harsh to say I should be fired given my stuff gets proof read but whatever. If someone were to tell me I'm writing a word wrong, I would look it up, take their advice and get over it.

First of all, Gretchen Weiners said "Irregardless" in Mean Girls, there for it is a fucking word.heyyyhi wrote:While this isn't a forum specifically about grammar, "regardless" is the correct version of the word and no publication company worth their salt would publish information with the word "irregardless" in it.KatherineLouvain wrote:Bit harsh to say I should be fired given my stuff gets proof read but whatever. Second of all, fucking look it up yourself before everyone on here starts arguments and insulting people telling them they should be fired.

It is widely used as a word, we all know it may not be proper but you clearly know what the person meant so picking on them is petty. People on here constantly say "should of", "ain't" etc etc but it is a a forum site. I usually have 10 minutes to read/write on here before one of my kids wants something so I cant always check my grammar/spelling. Sue me.

Irregardless and regardless mean the exact same thing, but one word is made up and one isn't, and one is considered proper grammar and one is basically slang derived from the original word.

You linked two blogs, but I don't think that you're uneducated or dumb because you use that specific word.WheresMyCoffee wrote:First of all, Gretchen Weiners said "Irregardless" in Mean Girls, there for it is a fucking word.heyyyhi wrote:While this isn't a forum specifically about grammar, "regardless" is the correct version of the word and no publication company worth their salt would publish information with the word "irregardless" in it.KatherineLouvain wrote:Bit harsh to say I should be fired given my stuff gets proof read but whatever. There was already an argument going on here about it and I'm just saying that if you are writing formal papers or are in a professional environment, "irregardless" should not be used. The original word "regardless" is considered correct.

I know you're not replying to me, but it literally says that it's a nonstandard word in the definition.lizpuff2006 wrote:https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/irregardlessJwhite_momof4 wrote:What website said it was a word?? Double post....I dont use that word but I have heard it and read it. It isn't popular or widely used but it is accepted as a non standard word.
Sort of like the word ain't. We all know "ain't ain't a word and I ain't gonna say it" line but people still use it and understand it. It may not be a conventional word but it is still used

Well by golly, if Gretchen Weiners used that word, then it truly must be a word!!! Lmao.
I think the fact that she said it kind of proves the point that it is an incorrect, dumb, made-up word. Just like Karen saying "it's like I have ESPN or something". They are dumb, ditzy, whatever.....and people who say irregardless also sound dumb.

Re: BEplus3: Forcing Family (BritneyandBaby Part 26/27)
I think "irregardless" is one of those stupid, made up words that people use so often it's become ok to use. Apparently it's in the dictionary now.
Re: BEplus3: Forcing Family (BritneyandBaby Part 26/27)
I wouldn't be surprised if "could of" is considered correct terminology soon because so many people love to spell "could've" that way.LE_mommy wrote:I think "irregardless" is one of those stupid, made up words that people use so often it's become ok to use. Apparently it's in the dictionary now.
Re: BEplus3: Forcing Family (BritneyandBaby Part 26/27)
This. Just like how people have started saying they're "conversating" when the proper term is actually "conversing." People probably know what someone means when they say irregardless or conversating, but it makes that person look uneducated. IMO.heyyyhi wrote:Irregardless and regardless mean the exact same thing, but one word is made up and one isn't, and one is considered proper grammar and one is basically slang derived from the original word.

Is this really happeninng? Seriously. No need to tear a person apart over a "dumb" word.

Some people may genuinely not realize that it's not a word. I think it's important to try to eradicate ignorance

Seriously. I saw the ignorant being used. I think it's ignorant to be going back and forth over misuse of a word. I have a learning disability, I think it's messed up to get into this shit talk. One of the reasons I joined this forum and stayed because there wasn't a lot of grammar shit talk. WTF people, is Britney seriously that boring we have to change the subject.Blackswan wrote:Is this really happeninng? Seriously. No need to tear a person apart over a "dumb" word.
