C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
So was it really easier to do an almost 20 minute livestream? Doesn't make sense. But..what do I know. I watched for like 2 seconds...definitely boring.

There's no editing involved, so definitely easier. I only watched for maybe 3 minutes before I got bored and turned it off.
If they plan on making this a weekly thing, they should come up with a topic, or feature a question from a subscriber. Preferably once the kids go to bed.

Do they get paid for live streams with ad rev ?

Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
I feel like they went live without really a plan for the video. 6 days a week they vlog with their kids, my personal choice would be for them to live stream (or just post a one take similar to the Changes vlog) once the kids are in bed with a topic to talk about or a more structured Q&A. Hopefully they will find out what works and what doesn't over the next couple weeks.
Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
Ugh I couldn't watch the video anymore, since I couldn't see anything. But thanks for verifying it wasn't just my computer!

Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
That was a pretty sad attempt at a live stream. Maybe they should have been in the house so they had better wifi. I know I get wifi on my deck but it's not near as good as in the house.
I agree that they should have a plan for live streams. Maybe they'll get better at them. I would probably watch if they did a sit down one with just them talking about life, being honest. That's the Cullen and Katie I liked to watch.

They post them on their YT channel - this one had FREAKING FOUR ADS! I turned it off before even a full minute.tnchk1187 wrote:Do they get paid for live streams with ad rev ?
Good luck to them...but there's a reason I quit watching more than a year ago.
Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
The live stream was a disaster and not only because of the poor quality. It revealed what I and many others suspected - Katie has her hands full and Cullen does absolutely nothing. I don't know how she has put up with it as long as she has. Dang, no wonder she looks frumpy most of the time.
Cullen is bored with filming and it shows. He used to put out better vlogs. Now he moves the camera around too quickly and it gives me vertigo.
I still think they should take at least a week off and try to come up with a plan to improve their vlogs; otherwise they will continue to lose viewers. Myself included. I am not going to watch them for a week and see if anything changes. If not, peace out. I will no longer "Catch them on the flip side."

I'm taking a break from watching for the time being too, not because I don't like them anymore, but because I'd rather wait until they find a new groove (whatever that may be) than keep playing along with whatever they decide to throw together for the day (late vlog? no vlog at all? crappy livestream where one person does all the work?) I just feel like they need to figure out what they're doing and then the vlogs/streams might start to improve.

I'm not a fan of livestreams either; they seem to always have glitches and it's not very interesting to watch "hi Sally, hi Timmy, hi Tina, hi blah blah blah". I like the idea of submitted questions beforehand because those can be fun. I hope C&K figure something that works out for them since they are the only vloggers I can sorta/kinda relate to these days and the couple I've watched the longest.

I’m laughing so hard at the first half of your comment and I totally agree! And YouTube’s live-streaming is horrible to be honest. The quality is not up there. I have noticed this with other YouTube livestreams. They should livestream through a service that connects to YouTube too.
They seem to be in a funk and I honestly hope they figure out. But l honestly believe it’s the pressure to be like other vloggers that’s getting to them.

Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
I had to laugh about how, when they first announced they would be doing livestreams, someone (I believe it was HS?) said something like, "I'd rather not watch livestreams because they're fiddling with the camera/blurry/checking connection/asking if it's better half the time anyway," (Okay I already know I just butchered that paraphrase...haha, but it was something along those lines.) because that's exactly how it went down.
I agree though, I'd much rather see a one-take where they answer previously asked questions, or twitter questions, or something. A one-take would require the same exact amount of effort (or lack thereof) and would be much better quality. If they're going to continue to do these livestreams, I agree that they need to have some sort of structure, at least. It's not a bad idea for them to set a topic and livestream answering questions on that specific topic. But as far as walking around, trying to find better connection while Gaines screams in the background goes, I think I'll pass next time.
They could actually, really have the potential to set themselves apart from other vloggers if they would dedicate Monday's to livestreams/one-takes on answering "taboo" questions. There's a lot of opportunity there, but that would also mean having to let go of whatever child/younger audience they have, which I don't think they're willing to do.
I think that's what Cullen was referring to when he said, "YouTube has changed." It seems like he realizes that the majority of the audience out there is now children, and he feels pressure to cater to that instead of being able to have sit-down talks like they used to. This is where they've gone wrong, though, imo. I think they would actually be more successful if they would just vlog what they want, and what feels natural to them, instead of trying to cater to an audience that isn't naturally drawn to them.
Okay, I'm done rambling now, lol. I'm too lazy to make a "TL;DR" summary, so if you read all of this, bless you.

Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
The livestream was a bust yesterday, but I'll give them a chance to work out the kinks and figure out how they are going to do this. I'm on board with all you guys, make it a Q&A or a "Dinner & a Chat" like they used to do.
the thing i don't get is that yes, this gives them sunday off to spend together without the camera, which i think is great.. but then it doubles up the work on Monday, so now not only are they having to film vlog footage for tuesday but they are also having to come up with content and block off time for a livestream. I really think they would just be better off taking Saturday or Sunday completely off and not uploading anything one day a week. If they are doing this to create space from the vlog and to reconnect, doubling the work load isn't really a great solution.

Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
OK i think i have the timing figured out and it makes more sense to me now... Looks like today's footage was mostly from Sunday, meaning they didn't vlog at all on Monday. other than the live stream and a little clip at the end of the vlog. That makes a lot more sense to me than taking off Sunday and then vlogging and livestreaming on Monday.

Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
"Caught in a Landslide"? WTF? Is he trying to copy Bryan's "Trapped" videos? It wasn't a landslide. Or is it supposed to be a "landslide" as opposed to a water slide? But a landslide is when a bunch of earth rolls down a hill all out of control.. I don't know. It was weird.
Who takes a little girl to ride a pony in a dress? At least they had Brooks in overalls. Even with the leggings, it's not the best. Last year they took her in those bell bottom leggings with the ruffles on them. Get the girl some clothes she can get messy in!

The slide was called Grampa's Landslides or something like that, they showed the sign (it might have been Uncle something,, but for sure it was "so and So's Landslides..)lmmomSD wrote:"Caught in a Landslide"? I thought her little outfit was cute, but then i generally like the clothes she picks for the kids. I did leggings under dresses all the time for my daughter at that age, and it made it so much easier for her. (and little shorts in the summer, made specifically for going under skirts. They had a brand name but it escapes me at this time lol) MG was playing in the sand and the dirt so i don't think they were worried about her getting dirty. I didn't see an issue with the pony ride? I always dressed my kids up cute for pumpkin patch outings too, bc i always took lots of posed photos.. I did notice that Katie gave Brooks the little comb over and not the spiky hair.. LOL

Cullen needs to cool it with the montages. Maybe I'm the only one, but I skip through 90% of them. So I watched maybe a total of 2 minutes of today's vlog.
Why is Katie wearing wedge flip flops to a pumpkin patch? Pretty sure Cullen was wearing sandals as well. Gross.

Re: C&K: The Struggle is Real...ly Hard to Relate (Part 14)
Someone already made this point, but I really don’t think the workload from the daily vlogs is creating a wedge in their marriage. I’m sorry that I can’t remember the original post. But yes, I agree. Film 20 to 30 minutes of footage max, which you’re already editing and piecing together in your head throughout the day. Drag and drop the footage into a 10 to 15-minute vlog. Create a title, thumbnail, tags, write a description (which is usually identical to the previous day), and upload. Answer emails and do occasional teleconferences with brands. This can all be accomplished within set hours under a work schedule. They couldn’t be bothered to respond to questions about the missed vlog and claimed they didn’t realize anyone was asking about it until that evening, so clearly they know how to unplug.
I think putting their children and their lives on the internet every day for public consumption is what’s so detrimental to a marriage and family unit. While I agree that it’s a good thing to spend a day without putting a camera in your kids’ faces, they’re still doing this the other six days in the week.
I found it really peculiar that Katie is putting the kids to bed every night and getting up with them every morning while Cullen does God knows what. Cullen didn’t even know he needed to help his almost 3-year-old brush her teeth. I remember Katie so clearly saying that she needed a break, and she was begging Cullen to get up early with the kids for one day, either Mother’s Day or Katie’s birthday, I don’t remember which one. He wouldn’t do it. Then in the recent sit-down video, Katie lamented that they don’t spend time together anymore. I know there was a lot of speculation about what exactly Cullen was doing that kept him up all night. I suspect that he’s just avoiding his wife because he doesn’t want adult responsibility and he doesn’t want her telling him what to do. He can sleep in, “run errands” during the day, pull out the camera to further distance himself from his wife and kids, playing the part of husband and father, he can do whatever he wants while she puts the kids to bed, and then he can be on his laptop pretending to work late into the night.

It's still 90+ degrees here, i don't judge the shoes too much but i know some people just really hate Cullen's flip flops.askeptichere wrote:Cullen needs to cool it with the montages. Maybe I'm the only one, but I skip through 90% of them. So I watched maybe a total of 2 minutes of today's vlog.

I think i'm in the minority that really like montages if they are done well (Bryan used to kill me with the food ones though, i remeber one of their titles here was "Roll that Beautiful Bean Footage") so i didn't mind it that much.
OT, but Brooks face when the horse sneezed and scared him..

Then she should be wearing shorts. And the kids shouldn't be wearing long pants either. Everyone should be in closed shoes on a farm. Did you see how filthy they were when they were getting on the hayride? I hate her shoes because I think they're hideous, but I mentioned it because they're not practical or safe at a place like that.Playsinrain wrote:It's still 90+ degrees here, i don't judge the shoes too much but i know some people just really hate Cullen's flip flops.askeptichere wrote:Cullen needs to cool it with the montages.
