Judging by his defensiveness, I’m guessing so.
I can’t even watch his IG stories anymore. His eyes are always shiny and red, and he constantly looks under the influence of something. That’s great they are finding joy in decluttering, but I still feel like something is seriously “off” in that home.

Wow, defensive much? He had to know that posting something like that would get some interesting responses. Especially since he has no problem posting vlogs and instastories where he's obviously wasted.HelloSweetie wrote:^^^^^

I haven't watched in awhile and watching Katie's video this morning was like watching paint dry. She gets so distracted and repeats herself over and over. She was just as defensive over getting rid of too big or too small clothes as Cullen was about the addiction comment. What's the point of Kon Marie if you are keeping so much? I think she's making too many changes too quick (weight, sleeping, organizing) and she is going to fail fast. I would say stay tuned but don't think I can with this family lol

I would actually love to see Nanny Jo with a lot of the family vloggers. I can just see her face watching a Funnel Vision or 8 Passengers video!Catface2 wrote:Along with Super Nanny JoBaconsgirl wrote:maybe the real Marie Kondo needs to come.KaterTot wrote:I haven't watched in awhile and watching Katie's video this morning was like watching paint dry. I'm sure they would loooove for Marie Kondo to come. But I doubt it. Their views are just circling the drain.

Total agreement here, I stepped off the train long ago as I refused to watch the derailment any longer. Wth is going on with them?? Oh how I loved the simpler days, years ago. Sadly, that family no longer exists.KaterTot wrote:I haven't watched in awhile and watching Katie's video this morning was like watching paint dry. Re: Katie:Learning to Say No to Everything Except Gaines|Par
Don't Tell Mom is worth the listen (so far anyway) The "good" part doesn't start till about 23ish mins in (unless you want to hear baby room planning talk from Brit.) I'm at 35 mins in and Cullen has flat out admitted he is an addict, he and Katie both actually. The tweet wasn't about something silly, he was being legit. Say's he and Katie were heavy drinkers in college (not a surprise) and he was smoking pot on the regular (although it sounds like Katie is NOT ok with the weed smoking, hasn't come out yet, if he currently partakes) Also he has said that he and Katie both were recently drinking pretty heavily every night. Started out with a glass of wine before bed, then it turned into 2 then a few mixed drinks, up until a point where his mom came in one night and he had a 32 oz mixed drink he was drinking. Say's they haven't stopped drinking completely, but they only drink on the weekends and not nearly as much as they used too. Said it was the best thing that has ever happened to their marriage. He also says his dad was an alcoholic as was his grandfather. Berry has always tired to keep his drinking in check bc she worries about alcoholism in his family. He stated too that it "wasn't just drinking" but hasn't elaborated on that yet.
Britney also admitted to being an addict and being in NA and AA for years, but she hasn't admitted the prison stint.. yet anyway. Cullen is still sharing his end of it.. i'll post more as i listen.

Defensiveness doesn’t go along with accountability and acceptance. He was definitely defensive in that Tweet.Playsinrain wrote:Don't Tell Mom is worth the listen (so far anyway) The "good" part doesn't start till about 23ish mins in (unless you want to hear baby room planning talk from Brit.) Sorry, I’m not buying it. I think he’s saying he’s better for the viewers and his mom who are putting pressure on him. He doesn’t seem better.
I’ve watched Katie’s vlogs and IG lives. The whole life change screams fake and temporary.

Re: Katie:Learning to Say No to Everything Except Gaines|Par
He keeps saying "it's not alcohol really.." (but then says "well it really is alcohol", so he knows its a problem too) and alludes to some other substance but never really says what it was. Just saying that anything that alters your state of mind, and is more on your mind than what is really important in your life is an addiction (which hes not wrong)
Britney talks about being very addicted to drugs, that they had a huge hold on her and that Cullen was "luckier" than she was when it came to her addictions. Sorta alluding to the fact that he was on meth as well for a short time.
Cullen hid a lot of his drug use from Katie at first and then when she found out, gave him an ultimatum of sorts (he doesn't say that flat out, but that's the understanding) and he says that she for sure saved his life and if it wasn't for her and his want to be with her, things would have been really different for him. Katie was/is a drinker for sure but draws the line at any sort of drug it seems.
When they were first married Cullen would drink around a case of beer a day. Backed down from that, then started drinking heavier when Gaines was born. called himself a functioning alcoholic at that time.
Sounds like his relationship with Katie was fueled by drinking. "From day one..." that drinking was something they just did together.
Cullen admits that he is no longer on antidepressants, and that he has worked his way out of that place.. he doesn't say it, but i feel like his depression was a side effect of the heavy drinking and cutting back his drinking has helped his headspace.
Britney talks about what sounds like, her living in a drug den and Annie "literally drug me out of that place by the hair on the back of my head" and she says that Annie saved her life at that moment. Annie put her in rehab in PA. (maybe? or she went to live with Annie in PA..?? At first i thought rehab?),but then she talks about driving around looking for drugs in PA and crying calling her dad and winding up in a church parking lot and that's when she went to her first NA meetings. She tells Cullen he needs to find a meeting and he agrees and says he's looking at programs and wants to (somewhat) document his process. Not in depth so much, but he does want to share this experience.
They talk about wanting to open up more about the struggles they have had and are currently having. talks about how that things might not be all fun and games on Don't Tell Mom when they get into these discussions but they want to keep it real and share more.
Good for Cullen for admitting publicly that he has a problem and that he is actively working on it (he and katie both) and for wanting to get in meetings and change himself. I hope he follows through. addictions are hard, on everyone involved. I can't snark on someone being open and admitting they have a problem and saying they are actively trying to get help.

he talks about that tweet on the podcast as well and admits that it put him in defensive mode. But in all honesty i think i would have responded the same way. He was being legit when he said he was an addict and admission is the first step.HelloSweetie wrote:Defensiveness doesn’t go along with accountability and acceptance. He never says he's better, and says that he is struggling and that seeing how much Katie was getting out of her lifestyle changes really put things in perspective and makes him want to change for the better.
If in a few weeks Katie is back to her old ways and Cullen has completely shut down the addiction talk and we can tell he's still drinking heavily on a regular basis, then yeah, I'll call it fake. But i don't have it in me to give someone hell for wanting to make life changes and starting somewhere. We have wanted them to try things like this for years, but then when they start and seem to be enjoying it, people say it's fake and all for views. Katie looks great and her lifestyle changes are really showing in a positive way. I don't think you can fake that.
I just feel like anyone who steps up and admits they have a problem and want help should be given credit. If he is really serious about it, well time will tell.. but i have to give him props for taking the first step.

He probably stopped taking the antidepressants because he was drinking so much. That is a bad combo, and Katie would know that.

Re: Katie:Learning to Say No to Everything Except Gaines|Par
I don't doubt that in the least. He doesn't flat out say it, but he says that they are both drinking much less and that he is in a better mental state than he was before. I assume his depression was really something underlying with his alcohol (and whatever other substance he was alluding too) use and cutting back has helped his depression. Not saying this is how you should do it at all, but i think he stopped the meds bc he was drinking, but then when he stopped drinking as much he realized that was his issue, and not so much depression... if that makes sense.HelloSweetie wrote:He probably stopped taking the antidepressants because he was drinking so much. Re: Katie:Learning to Say No to Everything Except Gaines|Par
Cullen was pretty frank and open about his struggles and Britney kinda skated around her issues a lot, and gave Cullen space to talk. I want to hear Britney open up like Cullen has.........
