A carpet would have looked much nicer in the living room. Cozier anyway. With the fireplace and all.

Well, poop! I wanted to see Trashley using her new appliance bar!
Re: ☆Adventures in Babysitting-Greedner Style☆ (Part 12)
Just wait. I'm certain that now that she has it, there will be nothing but home cooked meals in the girlses future. I'm positive the only reason they ate out so much was lack of an appliance bar in their rental.Howlin17 wrote:Well, poop! I wanted to see Trashley using her new appliance bar!

Maybe they'll do large area rugs so like every few months they can throw it out when the girls trash it and buy new but pass it off like changing area rugs for the season.
Re: ☆Adventures in Babysitting-Greedner Style☆ (Part 12)
I wonder if that is the same McDonald's where Tubby had his big ole hissy fit. Hahahahahahaha!!! I'm so glad their disrespect didn't cost them any Greedner business. LOLOLOLOLOL

Maybe they can get a rug company to sponsor their monthly rug changes.DoodleBop wrote:Maybe they'll do large area rugs so like every few months they can throw it out when the girls trash it and buy new but pass it off like changing area rugs for the season.

I can't wait to see how that gem works out. Can you imagine Tyler making his famous banana bread? All ingredients from the fridge to the pantry. All dry ingredients (already in the pantry?). Measuring cups and spoons in or out? Mix it up in the mixer. Bread pan in or out of the pantry? Pour dough in. Use a spatula (in or out?) to get it all. Take bread out of pantry all the way across the kitchen to the stove to bake. Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher outside of the pantry. Throw trash away outside of pantry. When dishes are clean put them away some inside the pantry and some in the kitchen.Howlin17 wrote:Well, poop! I wanted to see Trashley using her new appliance bar!

I have never watched this family or even heard of them until recently and their story caught my attention. Can someone give me a brief run-down on what the deal is with this family? Obviously there is some drama since they have a thread here and that’s the stuff I wanna know about....lol.

Well you cats have officially changed my mind about the virtues of an appliance bar. We are looking at building in the next year or two and I saw the idea somewhere of an appliance bar integrated into a pantry and thought that would be the best idea ever. But then reading this thread I realized that #1. I hate to cook, but not quite to the level that the FF's parents do. And when you don't enjoy cooking the idea of baking something staring at the interior of a pantry wall seems so depressing. And then there's that whole lack of the kitchen triangle in the pantry that's a pesky problem. So I think I'm going to stick with using my pantry for storing dry goods and some of my larger appliances and not trying to cook in there. Has anyone put their microwave in their pantry and liked that or not? The jury is still out for that one.
I would take E&J's house any day over the Greeders. Its smaller but overall just seems more usable and they didn't go completely overboard upstairs and in regard to size so they could finish the basement right off the bat.

My aunt has an awesome pantry that has shelving for appliances. It's at the back of the pantry and is wider shelves to hold things like crockpots and stuff. It's not an appliance bar to cook in but meant for storing those bigger items. I can't imagine cooking in my pantry.Kylielou wrote:Well you cats have officially changed my mind about the virtues of an appliance bar. The layout of A&T's kitchen is horrible. They'll never cook because it will be a pain getting anywhere.
If you're going to invest in something fancy for the kitchen get a pot filler over your stove so you don't have to carry a pot full of water from the sink to the stove.

Re: ☆Adventures in Babysitting-Greedner Style☆ (Part 12)
I have been lurking for awhile now, and have decided to now smirk. One of the (many) problems the Gardners (among others) encounter with putting your life online is that you lose your privacy to do things you take for granted if done privately. Like for instance, say something thoughtless or not thought through, realize it and change your mind - because the first thing that you say is what people are going to remember. Case in point - Ashley babbling on during the house tour, talking about the kids playing in the unfinished basement. Obviously they talked that over and realized that, durr, stupid for a variety of reasons because she or he answered a comment about rooms in the house two days ago on that house tour video in contradiction - "There are 5 bedrooms upstairs. One will be the guest room which will eventually move down stairs. The other will probably be the playroom until we finish the downstairs in the spring. Then it will be Tyson's Office" Most people probably haven't seen this reply and like me, thought that idea of putting down a rubber rug and have them play down there was awful. At least now they will be warm and nearby. Tyler will have to use the guest bedroom to unfold the miracle.
So it looks like they realized that IT'S WINTER. Hopefully they won't put them down there in the spring either (or else not alone) because they are too young. Maybe they are trying to emulate the Binghams with the basement playroom, TV room, but their kids (the boys) are older.

Re: ☆Adventures in Babysitting-Greedner Style☆ (Part 12)
But E&J's house is so cold and sterile. All toys must be confined to the "Hello room" (I still don't get where that name came from) and the kids are still sent downstairs to play. I do like the layout of the main area, but don't think it's fair that Jared has his office upstairs, while Jackson was banished to the basement. And they spent plenty of money foolishly-- that awful, boulder-filled backyard, the $10,000 Restoration Hardware couch, the Biggest Hot Tub in Utah, etc. They also rushed the builder, and the wood for the floors wasn't allowed to acclimate, and that's why they had to redo their floors a year after building. Now that their views are falling, I'll bet they're sorry they spent the way they did. They did the appliance bar too. I thought it was hilarious because right before these two closed on their house, Ellie and Jared did a q&a about their house, and doing the appliance bar was one of the things Ellie said she would have changed! They obviously didn't ask anyone about it before going ahead. Appears to be the case with a lot of things about this house.Kylielou wrote:Well you cats have officially changed my mind about the virtues of an appliance bar. Yes! A place in the pantry for big appliance storage is a great idea. And I would LOVE to have a pot fillerSnarkyJ wrote:My aunt has an awesome pantry that has shelving for appliances. When she first mentioned the appliance bar I'm like oh so a place to store the crock pot, mixer etc. When I realized she intended to use them in the pantry...uh what. She half assed a Butler's pantry which has a sink.

I can't imagine trying to keep it clean. Batter and flour spill sometimes, even if you're careful.
A heavy duty shelf to store appliances, yes. But actually using them IN the pantry? No thanks.

Well, I must admit, I had no idea she was planning on actually cooking IN THE pantry. This whole time I thought she was just going to store heavier appliances in there. No wonder I was confused. Ha, ha!
I think she'd be better off NOT doing that. Just keep all the heavy appliances in there and bring them out to the kitchen to use. Especially when the FF want to help with banana bread again.

and also, most pantry items say to store in a cool dry place. So that window being in there is going to make that room hot...Night lady wrote:Well, I must admit, I had no idea she was planning on actually cooking IN THE pantry. Re: ☆Adventures in Babysitting-Greedner Style☆ (Part 12)
As a Mormon I have a large working pantry and a separate cold storage room. I would never keep my dry good in that pantry. The sunlight would spoil things in a hurry!
That entire house is wonky. My husband is a home builder, we've renovated and built our own homes as well as many client homes and that house is just impractical.
