Like, I get it. Sometimes real life trumps what we want in an ideal world. I bought an adorable sweater from Walmart recently. Would I rather it be ethical? Hell yeah. But it was in my budget and available easily. But I’m also not out there recommending people use an app and shop “3 & higher!”

Why even talk about the app and the ratings if you completely disregard it? Like we won’t be smart enough to realize she’s BSIng us?

That's exactly my problem with her. She knows she has the reach and preaches this non realistic ideals that she can't even follow. If she said from the get go that she would like to buy only ethical but with money and accessibility in factor she can't do it all the time then it would totally be understandable. All our intentions come from a good place and wanting to do good but it takes a lot to put it into practice.

She lacks the understanding of her audience that some if not most have limitations agaisnt them to buy ethical for a high price. Then she adds to insult dangling eye candy like the love of shopping, Joe Fresh, bread and pizza so she can make money while being a minimalist, ethical and a healthy eating vegetarian.

YES! That is exactly it!
She drones on and on and makes poor people who cannot afford to shop at West Coast kids for baby stuff or Home Sense for seasonal decorations feel bad about it (telling them to save up their money until they can since second hand and Dollarama are not to HER standards)... but then when it suits HER and she can get a sponsorship deal...
It truly is wicked.

The girl who won’t DM her is making a noble attempt but the Elle groupies are attacking her. I want to support her but I know Elle will block.

There is a HUGE difference from "buying" from them to being "sponsored" by them Elle! Your "heart" is misconstrued by your audience because of mixed messages and your big emphasis on ethical and high quality. But it's ok for your audience to have a non-ethical option because you get a paycheck.

I used to buy Joe Fresh a lot, coz its affordable and the outlet used to be close to me. Then that Bangladesh fire happened and I lessened it to maybe once a year. To me taking a sponsorship from a company who had such a huge controversy like this is either stupid or just plain greedy.

Does she think she is clever trying to insult our intelligence with all of her spin?

If this is true why did she not address it in her original post? Why did she not want to post this publicly?
I think she knows that it would snowball in the comment section because it is bs. I am sure SHE can afford to shop as she likes...if she can buy the cart load of Joe Fresh clothes she referenced in her post, then she can surely be minimalist-minded and instead buy a few items approved from her app.
If she really, genuinely likes Joe Fresh why not support them but decline any financial benefit they offer???
Do I believe she gives a flying fish about the less financially fortunate members of her audience and wants be inclusive to them? Both my mind and heart scream: HECK NO!

Elle doesn't always block. I've gone against her in comments before and defended others and never been blocked.

Maybe I’ll poke in, then. She blocked my main account because I told her a LV bag isn’t ethical if you’re vegan and there are other options. That’s exactly how I phrased it. No reply, just a block.

It's just so hypocritical! She literally cannot decide what's more important to her image––
Being relatable (offering her customers a variety of price points, as she puts it) and not seeming like she has it all together by SOMETIMES buying from unethical companies (cuz she's not perfect ya'll, she's so relatable, just a regular mom, ya know???)
OR
(Pretending) to care about buying ethical clothing because she's also so compassionate, conscious, and woke.

"Hi, I'm Elle, and I will support whatever company offers me money, regardless of ethics. But common' guys, nobody's perfect? I buy ethical most of the time? I give lower income families advice on how to avoid buying unethical products but then the next week PROMOTE an unethical company but that's ok, right???? Wouldn't want YOU to misconstrue things..."

She's unbelievable.

I’m loving those people calling her out. Clearly they’re much more articulate than I am. I hope she gets mad and makes a insta novel about it. Nostril flaring all over the place. Can’t wait

She just responded on Instagram with a very corporate response. Guess she got Joe Fresh to come to her rescue so that she can save her image AND keep the money in her pocket. Way to go, Elle!!!

I love how she said she tries to give her audience a wide price range “for those who can’t afford high end.” She’s just so noble!!!!

Yeah, it seemed pretty copy paste. I mean, good for her for at least responding I guess? I still wouldn't promote a company that had ever had bad ethics, especially one in the last 10 years. I mean, Joe Fresh was a pretty big deal when all the controversy surrounding it came out. Pretty sure they have the same CEO they did back then, which means if they are making changes it's just because of public backlash most likely. I'm sure they're doing the bare minimum to fly under the radar.

This is such a lie. She told poor people to save up for ethical items.

What’s so hard about telling the truth. Giving all options. She tries to be high and mighty. It’s not hard to say here are some cheaper options ect. Just be real and quit lying.

I wonder what her sponsor screening criteria is? For someone who supposedly care so much about ethics she should know or at least research the company's history of practices. Seems like she just googled it after the backlash.

Her response was not hers for sure. Also seems forced since the comments were naturally getting out of hand. But hey at least she responded!

Clap clap. Wow Joe Fresh took 5 years to try and correct their practices and it only took a building collapse to do so.

She clearly was not prepared for anyone to question her sponsorship which is why she waited for a response from Loblaws. She had no clue the ap review was dated 2017. She had no clue of their updated practices, etc SHE HAS NO CLUE ABOUT ANYTHING.

I fully get wanting to go crazy buying new clothes for her first girl, but she can’t preach and then go totally against it without accepting the fact that some viewers wouldn’t support her when she sells herself as being authentic, quality over quantity, etc

If she truly wants to cater to her viewers who can’t buy “high end” then why doesn’t she visit a second hand store and show her cool finds? Or remember when she was sponsored by Downy and had a “party with friends” where they swapped kids clothes. Why not do that ??!! Does she not have any friends who had a girl?? Or maybe she just doesn’t like her friends aesthetic.

I don’t think she has a sponsor clearing process. Beggars can’t be choosers. She’s claimed before “oh I’ve turned down sponsorships before, big paying ones, if I don’t like the product”. What a bunch of bull.

I’m pretty sure majority of the stuff she’s promoted she doesn’t use as I never see them in vlogs (ie. robotic window cleaner).

Remember those custom facial products she promoted? She only used them for that one vlog. Same with Johnson & Johnson, I guarantee she doesn’t use them on her kids. She even had unused products from this brand in her decluttering vlog. Downy fabric softener? Nope, I bet she only uses her Doterra essential oils and those wool balls. So many other brands she’s promoted but never mentions or shows them again. We see all her decluttering vlogs, I think we have a good idea of things she kept.

And I would like to see where she keeps her Doterra collection because I’m pretty sure she’s got like 300 + bottles but will never show them because it’s not minimal minded enough for her image.
