As someone with severe anxiety/OCD, you don't need someone to drive you to and from exposure therapy. When you do this type of therapy, it's in a controlled setting and your therapist only exposes you to your trigger as much as you can handle in an outpatient setting. They always make sure you're ok before you go home. If you're having a panic attack and your appointment time has passed, they'll help you through it until you're able to take care of yourself again. It's also better for you to do this type of therapy on your own. If you lean on someone else for this, it's easy to convince yourself that you are only able to get through it because you have a significant other/family member there. You need to go on your own in order to gain confidence in yourself.Dusty_Sidebar wrote:Kyra is really growing on me lately. Just watched the OCD vlog and have a few thoughts:
1) I'm confused why when they explained why they stopped because its too expensive oscar was totalling up for the year --- i thought it was just a 4-6 weeks of going a ton/course?
2) Oscar is such a dick for sleeping all day - like if Kyra is that affected (like in the hailstorm vlog) how do they know she will be okay to drive after exposure therapy. If that was my SO and i didn't have work and i would damn well be driving them to appointments --- if they have a sitter can he not edit in a coffee shop while she had the appointment?
3) Is anyone else wondering if he is sleeping all the time because of his new diet/exercise? I'm betting he isn't getting sufficient calories and thats why he is sleeping a ton, couple that with feeling tired from shocking his body with such high levels of exercise (like he didn't seem to build up at all, just went straight into crazy trialathon training..)
Panic attacks also can't last more than a short amount of time. You can have a bunch of panic attacks consecutively, but you won't be acting the way Kyra was in that hailstorm video for hours on end. They might look scary, but panic attacks are actually relatively harmless physically. Once the panic passes, your body goes back to normal (although you might feel more anxious than normal or a bit tired).
There are also different types of treatment for anxiety and OCD. Some therapists do a 6-12 week course of exposure therapy (CBT), but as another form of treatment, you might also see a therapist for talk therapy for weekly sessions with no set time to it. From what Kyra said, it sounds like she's doing an intensive CBT program at the moment, so there's a set amount of time for the heavy duty course. It didn't sound to me like they stopped therapy because it was too expensive. It seemed more like Kyra is just trying this new type of therapy (which I think is great. CBT is highly effective and should really help her.)
