I will say, I do think the assumption that they don’t care about Gabriel is a pretty rotten comment. That would suck to read. I don’t want her to be stuck in her grief. I don’t care how they grieve. Remember the I am a Mother video? They’ve changed so much since then. That’s the kind of content that would get the adult viewers, not complaining about working too much, vlogging all the shit they buy, or talking endlessly about the studio.

I agree with both of you. I think it's harsh to say they don't care about Gabriel anymore, but I also think that they're just not very deep, and would hate to see Missy being like Joan, unable to move on at all, and constantly referencing Gabriel. It would be weird for them to say, on Ollie's birthday, post about how Gabriel never got to turn 5 or something like that, like Joan does.

Without going too far off topic, Joan is an entirely different type of person. I often wonder just how much of Joan’s grief is actually about her unwillingness to move on from what has made people treat her special. I agree B&M don’t have much depth, and think Joan has way too much of it.

For all B&M’s faults, at least they’ve never made Oliver live in the shadow of his deceased older brother. They could acknowledge him more for the older viewers (like on his birthday), but why? Most aren’t watching anyway.

I used to agree, but then we met Joan. I don’t even judge her grief exactly, but her inability to see the daughter in front of her because of that grief, and her unwillingness to change that.

And I agree, Missy knows why people say these things. She just thinks it’s cute to play ignorant.

Yeah, maybe. I don’t think they’re capable of it though. It would be forced. It’s just not who they are. They seem pretty happy with their lives and aspirations, so that takes away any platform for deeper and more relatable conversation. At least for me.

I remember I found them when I was in the middle of TTC and looking for other people like me. And I think they were doing the same. They’ve moved on from that place, so have I, and likely so have most have their original audience.

Adding terms like “miscarriage” or “still birth” seem to give an automatic illusion of depth because there’s a stigma attached to talking about those things. Hindsight is 20/20 for me - I still think their depth and relatability was never really there. Who they are now is who they’ve always wanted to be, it just got side swept by needing to buy nursery furniture from Craigslist, driving to and from work, buying a new (used) car, and living in a small space. Their situation was relatable to a lot of us, not who they were as people.

If they were to make a switch to more mature content (whatever that looks like to people) it would seem fraudulent and disingenuous because they still don’t know who they are, and they still have the depth of a puddle.

Bryan could craft up a new style of vlogs to capture his idea of what the viewers want, but it’d be him and Missy sitting there with their faux-deep-and-meaningful voices, on their soapbox still finding a way to brag about their platform and how ~they’re helping others.

If Bryan and Missy were to separate, and Bryan were to come out and/or go on a journey to find himself (truly find himself), I’d be down to watch 100%.

I can’t watch YTers that I don’t think are happy and who don’t even seem to be trying to change it. Bryan as a single parent would definitely get my attention. Somehow I don’t think it would make a huge difference in Missy’s life.

I would definitely watch Bryan if he came out. They would both be so much happier. We know Missy seems disgusted by him and I believe that’s because she is scared he’s gay. So many people have mentioned it, how could she not wonder? She has to. It’s not a put down, either. It’s just, well, obvious that he is.
