I'm SO glad she is having Eve's (and Russell) tonsils out. It's all I notice when I hear her in the vlogs. She's going to feel so much better getting a good night of rest, poor baby.

I am still having a hard time with the bed sharing situation... I feel awful for Shari! What teenager wants to share not just their room but a bed with a two year old! Especially one that has some sleep issues. And abbey and Julie even said they weren't interested in sharing but still got a queen bed. Is this something other families do? I have honestly never heard of this but it just really bothers me, especially for Shari. They have that big "office" aka a junk room that they could clean out and let Shari have, just set up the computer somewhere else in the basement. Just seems so odd and sad to me. But what ruby wants ruby gets.

I have this theory (probably I'm completely wrong ), but maybe they think that Shari will get married in 5 years and Chad will leave soon after that for his mission and the youngest will have their bed for themselves.
I can't remember if Ruby used to share her bed with any of her siblings.

i have to say Kevin is the star of the vlogs. he is just so funny and sweet and seems like a great dad and I bet his students love him. and I don't even really find him that attractive but I just would love to see a day in the life or him once.

Sheri is the favorite kid by far. I saw she paid her for cleaning $35 for the one list and $15 for the other? So did Chad get paid for making lunch and doing a craft with Russell? I used to really like Ruby but the more I see of her, the less I like her now.

I was surprised she was willing to pay her own daughter that much with how uptight she is about money!! And I agree, I really think Chad gets the short end of the stick most days (even though he carries most of the videos because he's so darn cute)...I know they say homeschooling has been good for him but I can't imagine being stuck at home with a couple of toddlers and ruby for a mom all day...she stresses me out! Also letting everyone eat all of Abbie or Julie's (can't remember which) brownies without letting her have one the other day was not cool! Ruby comes off as very me me me.

So crazy to think that Shari will get married like her mom in 5 years time, but it's probably true!

It most certainly is a possibility, and I agree it sounds crazy. I understand that young girls of 18 do get married and it does work out sometimes, but I have a difficult time understanding it as a cultural norm in some groups in the United States in 2016. I hope she gets her degree and is self-supporting for at least a little while before marriage.

Same! I like watching all the families and love their close family bonds but I hate the stereotypical gender roles that everyone is forced into. All the girls are to be wives/mothers/homemakers and the boys have to be the manly breadwinners. I wish the girls were encouraged more to follow their dreams rather than being pushed into a single role. If they still decide to be a sahm, great.. but they should still encourage the girls to pursue their dreams and interests outside the home.

To a certain extent, I think they are encouraged to get a job and learn skills that may allow them a better job. As far as I know, it's only Ruby that doesn't have some sort of certificate or degree. And Ruby has said she'd like to be a teacher when her kids are older. She seemed vague about the whole prospect though, ie what kind of teacher and how she'd like her kids to be wasn't stated as I recall. However, as you said, all the girls seem to be groomed for marriage and motherhood. I find it kind of oppressive as it's possible that not all the girls may want to be SAHM. Shari stated that her hero was her dad, not her mom. Ruby and all of her sisters seem to idolize their mother. Maybe things are changing? Emily, Beau's wife, stated in the comments that she is excited to see what Kate is going to be. Kate is a real live-wire and smart as a whip! I'm fairly certain she'll be a wife and mom too, but I think she may just break open the box instead of just thinking outside of it. Olivia too may have a career as well as a family. She sees Bonnie's success and pride, I believe she'll want to be like her mom.

This is OT of Ruby but I'm not going to bother to post in the other thread. In my personal opinion, not to say anything bad about any child, I believe out of this generations girls Kate has the highest potential with the parents she was given and how invested they seem. I'm not sure if its because they waited longer than the rest of Beau's siblings to have children but if they went ahead with Emily 's convictions about only 2 children Kate and Henry could have so many opportunities afforded to them. At just 4 the girl already has such an amazing personality and wants to be a doctor and a mommy. Obviously I have a lot of Katerbug love going on on the DL.

I absolutely agree with you, I just love Kate and I'm subscribed to her channel. She is such a clever little girl! She keeps me on my toes like no other. Even when she isn't talking, she is bursting with personality. I didn't know Emily was committed to only 2 children, it's good to know. Thanks!

I haven't watched their channel much but now I'm interested! I wonder how the rest of the family feels about only two children? I think it's great but seems like that could be kind of a "disappointment" to others.

I also think some of them choose jobs/skills that are really just to aide them in being a better wife/mother. Neither Ellie nor Bonnie cut hair for very long from what I understand because they had kids so early but it sure is great to have a mom who can save money by cutting the whole family's hair. And having a RN/CNA (for real which is it??)..you can't beat that for a mom! If cutting hair is what they love then cool but I wonder if they ever had other dreams but were ever encouraged to pursue them.

Yeah, I'm subscribed as well to Kate's channel. I also love how tgey *translate* for Henry. In one of their Q&A's the question was how many children they wanted. Beau wants 5 but Emily only wants 2 and seemed pretty vehement about that.

I hear you regarding following their dreams. We should be on the comparing the griffeth's thread, so let me quickly state that Bonnie has worked as a phlebotomist and Julie started as a CNA, but kept going back to school so that now she has a 2 year degree and is a RN.

The YouTube money train has started. Rember when Eve was still riding in her very obviously outgrown infant seat and Ruby said they couldn't afford to buy her a new one? Now they just ordered 2 new beds, mattresses, chairs, a table and new bedding for the beds all like it's nothing.

Yep! Not keen on the new table and chairs. The table doesn't go with the rest of the kitchen and white chairs with a dark wood table? Weird. Ruby and Ellie are terrible at decorating, it's all so bland and boring and cheap looking!!

I don't see how Emily is completely different, in a recent vlog while Evie was playing with Henry, Emily said "Ohh! She needs a sister!" even though Ruby has stated many times that she's doesn't doesn't want to have more kids.

Well, she isn't completely different but I've seen her take her kids to educational places as well like the aquarium versus Wiggleworm. Emily might still influence gender schemas but I see her doing stuff to culture her children as well.

Well they grew up in that hideous house that hasn't been updated in decades. They all seem to really admire their mom, I think it's her style that rubs off on them.
