Every preemie is different and much depends upon the challenges they faced pre & post birth. I agree that many doctors start using the children's height/weight chart at around age 2, but if the preemies still register small there is little concern.
Most doctors I consulted (and with two premies, I saw many) reassured me that the children don't completely catch up until age 7 (especially with their immune system). That said, developmental milestones are constantly assessed and adjusted for the child's situation so that early intervention can be considered if helpful. There's just no hard & fast rule.
It's clear the the larger set of twins have different developmental challenges than the smaller set. It does appear that each twin within a set is similar in development. It's reassuring to see that they all have a healthy BMI. Does anyone remember if oxygen deprivation was an issue for any of them, particularly the larger set?
