I also wonder how they'll handle the laundry being on the first floor. I can't see Katie trying to haul laundry baskets up and down steps. I wonder if they'll be smart and get laundry bags, or just use it as an excuse for being lazy and not doing much laundry.
And the bathroom is, I agree, going to need more than new fixtures. I wouldn't be able to stand the sight of that tub, personally, and if they don't want to rip it out entirely then it at least needs to be replaced with a brand new (white) one.

I would honestly hate to pay closing cost, insurance, and property taxes on that $650k home. Not to mention the cost of the renovation, and furniture on top of ^ those cost.

I agree. We have always paid 2-10%, and some rare occasions the seller has paid or split the cost. I was shocked by the prices of real estate where they live. They must have bought that house bc of the location, bc they could have gotten something newer for the same price. I live in rural Arkansas and houses are crazy expensive here. The homes here cost more than they do in Little Rock. My neighbors just sold their 3,000 sq ft home (1000 of that is finished loft space) that sits on 1 acre for $375,000....AND it needs a lot of work! It's rare to find a home here that isn't dated. I think most homeowners here are still living in the 70's with their tacky green carpets and brown double ovens.

Big time YTers are going to move to something else soon, mark my words.

I live in a city near the Air Force base in Arkansas and love in a brand new subdivision so if you live in Arkansas if you even wanna think about living in a new house you gotta buy in a small town they are building up and be ok with lots of construction going on around you.

Re: Cullen and katie : Moving On Up. Part #10
That home is exactly what I would expect them to buy. Its massive. Its exactly the house I expect Katie thinks she needs to have.
Im curious to see how they decorate/paint/renovate. With their track record Im thinking it will be pretty tacky, and completely unfinished for a very long time. But unless something drastic happens I would imagine that it will be their forever home.
Didn't they say they bought it before it was officially listed? I wonder if they did pay close to full price then? They have said they paid very little for their current home, and if they had a decent down payment to begin with its likely they have a lot of equity in that home and that's what has allowed them to purchase this house.
Its certainly not what I would have picked with their budget but Im guessing the biggest draw was location.

That's what I don't understand... I don't remember them saying that it wasn't listed but I know a couple of other people have made that point, so I must have missed it.FakingIt_MakingIt wrote:That home is exactly what I would expect them to buy. I think the home that wasn't listed was the one with the pool and water damage that they walked away from. Pretty sure anyway. I can understand why they aren't more specific with this home and the listing info.

Re: Cullen and katie : Moving On Up. Part #10
Where I live a 2,000-2,500 sqft 3 bedroom townhouse with basic builder grade finishes will cost you $400,000+, and in this market you won't have much luck getting the sellers to pay any of your closing costs. Most houses are also selling for over the list price.
I think they probably got the house for a good bit less the the list price since it had been on the market for so long.

If you watch the "Our New Backyard" vlog, at the end they are talking about the house with the pool and standing water in the bathroom.. Katie says that's the one that was "not showing up in listings" not the one that they have bought. The home they have purchased was not the one they said wasn't listed.

Yep! The one where they were playing in the back yard is 100% the house they bought, the house with the pool/standing water issues is the "not listed" one (although it seems that one was listed just not being advertised well)japaluvr wrote:Thank you for clearing that up! Wow that house for 745 is MUCH more modern and beautiful. I can't wait to see how they update the house they bought. I am not a fan of the master bath but it's also very outdated

Re: Cullen and katie : Moving On Up. Part #10
Question b/c i'm not well versed in the subject.. Would Cullen have an inheritance from his dad already (assuming there was one to have)? Would they put off splitting the estate until Cullen's sister was released from jail or would they have already done that? I'm not sure how those proceedings work and I wonder if there is a time frame legally that they would have to follow or if they would put it off until she was home? I know they seem to be putting off his memorial service until them (I know the two things are not at all connected, the reading of the will and the memorial service)Acbsktbll wrote:I bet they did. Exactly. Whether or not this house has their wants, needs, style, etc. doesn't matter. It's what Katie thinks she needs to have in order to fit whatever stereotype she wants to fit in.FakingIt_MakingIt wrote:That home is exactly what I would expect them to buy. Based on how they decorated their current house, I would have expected them to choose something more contemporary. Not a traditional stately McMansion. It'll be interesting to see how their furniture fits with the style of this house and how they make it work together.

Re: Cullen and katie : Moving On Up. Part #10
This house is gorgeous, but I see them not considering it for two reasons, first is location, I don't think they want to be that far from family (I think the new house being so close to Kelly and Jay was a HUGE factor) and I don't think they were interested in owning that much land. 200+ acres is HUGEEEEEEE and I don't see them as people who would invest that kinda money in that much land. If that makes sense. If that house had just a couple acres with it and was cut by about 100-150K I could see it, maybe..onbreak wrote:I would have chosen

Things are cheap down south $745K for 236 acres... would blow DB 5 acre "property" outta the water
Re: Cullen and katie : Moving On Up. Part #10
I am sure location was the reason, but living so close to family isn't always a positive. Yet, I do think this is the house Katie would choose and everyone has different taste in decorating/homes.FakingIt_MakingIt wrote:Its certainly not what I would have picked with their budget but Im guessing the biggest draw was location.
I personally would have built and had a good designer help with picking out all the flooring, cabinets, paint etc. and put in a pool which would be used a lot in Alabama. Ellie's house was in Houzz for a reason because it was decorated beautifully with a designers help with tile, marble, furnishing etc. I would not be too quick to get rid of the gold fixtures since I think gold/brass fixtures are coming back.
I am not even that crazy about their lot which seems to be on a slope? And these large homes are not that far apart, but a distance from the road.
