Re: Daily"Oll"AboutOllie (Daily Bumps) - Part 92
I can't decide what the worst part of this is for me- the number of swords and reference to how fun violent play is, the fact that Ollie now seems to have at least two enormous electrical ride on toys, the weird thing about opening empty boxes (what was their intention there? I don't think even viewers of any age would have found that remotely entertaining), the number of plastic toys that will end up in the landfill, the environmental waste in general with the copious amounts of wrapping paper and such, or just knowing that the next party is coming soon and is bound to be 100 times worse. Barf.

I can't wait until Finn's birthday party.
"Present time, Finn."
Pan to little piece of dried meat on the floor in the corner, next to a pile of gifts labeled 'Ollie's presents'.

So I just watched the All about Ollie Video and all I can do right now is feeling SO sad for this little kid. He seemed so over it throughout the whole video. He's gonna be a sad adult one day because he'll realize that his entire childhood consisted of doing things on command for the camera just because his patents couldn't get enough attention. His smiles aren't real ones, his eyes are NEVER shining when he smiles. It honestly makes me so sad because I believe that if they had done things differently, he wouldn't be this weird and bratty child that he is now.

This is one of the few pics I've ever seen with him genuinely happy. Too bad he isn't allowed to see Bryan's side of the family more often. Bryan smiles more when he's around his family too. Normal smiles.... not the fake open mouth ones.asv0204 wrote:So I just watched the All about Ollie Video and all I can do right now is feeling SO sad for this little kid. I haven't read any comments yet but just watched today's video.
1. Why is Finn naked the whole video
2. I thought it was nice they gave Finn a present too
3. Why in the hell is Ollie not wearing a helmet on his bike? And even his car?
4. I thought it was so rude of Bryan to pull out their other motorized car when Cassie had just given Ollie the other present. Then Bryan says "great gift Cassie" all sarcastically as the boys drive off in their other car. I don't know. If I was Cassie my feelings would have been hurt

It's so freaky when Bryan looks at the camera while talking to Ollie he can't even look at him direct

So after watching the vlog where Hashtag dies and Ollie is literally at a loss for words and Bryan has to edit the shots to feed Ollie the lines, I'm realising how far behind he is in in not only language but also comprehension. Boston (Bonnie Hoellein) is 2 months older than Ollie but in terms of speech/language/comprehension is about 2 years ahead of Ollie. It is very worrying how little Ollie is able to communicate about the world around him, his thoughts and feelings, his experiences of things. He has no imagination or funny ideas or expression when he speaks. He is also very quick to say "idunno" when he asked a question or introduced to a new idea. Watch Boston in a recent video and you will be gobsmacked at the difference (he is of normal development). I know both boys have grown up in front of the camera, although Bonnie parents a hell of a lot better. Perhaps Ollie does have hearing problems and he desperately needs speech therapy or he will be behind for years to come.

I wonder what brand new momma missy from 4 years ago would say about her 4 year old not knowing his ABC or only starting to recognize the shape of numbers 1-10
She mentions the shows he watches are causing bad dreams.. What shows?
Also, totally knew he was going to the same prek as pay-tons ... She and Tal will be crying in the parking lot ( or at starbucks) over getting the kids to school late

Few pages behind. Sorry!sammibro wrote:
Sorry not sorry, but Ollie looks like the spawn of the devil in this picture! Maybe that's why Bryan had to mention that Ollie loves Jesus? I don't think this is a cute picture at all, but I guess Bryan does because Ollie is a little blond Bryan at this point. I feel like Ollie's bratty-ness really shows in this picture. I feel bad that the Lumps are raising him this way instead of being a nice and polite kid. All they want is a money maker, and that's sad. But pictures like this aren't going to get Ollie cast in any roles other than maybe a "toddler" version of Damien from The Omen!

I don't think he looks like the spawn of the devil here. He looks worried, which considering how little boundaries he has is probably how he feels a lot. Little kids thrive on structure and routine.

It's so sad. He obviously was feeling _something_, I could tell. But he had no idea how to express it. They hardly ever ask him open ended questions, they feed him lines, and they interact through the camera. I feel so bad for him.rhubarb93 wrote:So after watching the vlog where Hashtag dies and Ollie is literally at a loss for words and Bryan has to edit the shots to feed Ollie the lines, I'm realising how far behind he is in in not only language but also comprehension. And I agree, he probably is worried a lot. Kids know they're not supposed to be in charge. It's really scary for them when they are. They need to know that there are boundaries and that the adults are in control. And Bryan and Missy are too busy wanting him to be "happy" and trying to be his friends to be in control.

Poor Ollie. I feel sad for him. I know it's said he's a brat but I think if he was in a structured environment he would thrive. He has no rules, or routine outside of falling asleep in front of the TV every night.
Poor Finny is going to become the Jan Brady very soon once the new baby comes along. Especially if baby is a girl (I really think it will be).

Again, as a preschool teacher I find it difficult not to comment when folks post stuff like this about any of the youtube kiddos. You cannot compare one child to another and determine from that whether a he or she is at a developmentally appropriate level for his or her age. I would say that Boston is well above his age in language and communication skills, and Boston is also well above his developmental range in social/emotional skills as well, even though he's sometimes whiny. Most of that likely comes from having siblings and also from the fact that Bonnie does encourage open ended questioning and discussion a lot (one thing I really enjoy about her parenting style). Ollie is definitely missing some speech sounds/mixing some speech sounds in certain words, but those speech sounds are present at other times and I don't see any evidence of a hearing issue at all. I do think it's disturbing and depressing that they are constantly clearly asking/directing him on what to say, but that doesn't mean he isn't talking outside of that direction (he may just being saying what they don't want to hear). I have serious doubts that he would qualify for any type of speech therapy at this point. I have had tons of children in my classroom over the years who are what we refer to as "quiet observers", they prefer to sit back and watch rather than constantly talk out. They do tend to be the sneaky ones, and the ones you have to keep an eye on and I could totally see that in him. And they definitely have a lot of parenting skills they can improve, but saying Ollie is way behind developmentally because you're comparing him to other kids is unfair. There are a few kiddos I can look at on YouTube and genuinely say "that child has a significant delay", Ollie isn't one of them.rhubarb93 wrote:So after watching the vlog where Hashtag dies and Ollie is literally at a loss for words and Bryan has to edit the shots to feed Ollie the lines, I'm realising how far behind he is in in not only language but also comprehension. That's fair. I'm a nanny of two different 3 year olds and one has good speech (on par with Boston) the other is 4 in September and has started speech therapy recently and just got grommets in his ears. His speech was delayed but from what we've seen on the daily vlogs of Ollie, Ollie's speech is way further behind, so I do still think he'd qualify unless the system is different in the US (we are in Aus). Just thought I'd add that I wasn't trying to suggest Ollie is developmentally delayed.. more so that maybe a hearing issue is the problem.

Daily"Oll"AboutOllie (Daily Bumps) - Part 92
Oliver's speech and development are shameful given the fact that he's had two stay at home parents his ENTIRE LIFE.
Clearly the decision to stay home was more about laziness than actually wanting to raise their children.
And yes I've read the assessment from the preschool teachers here but I simply disagree. My 2.5 year old didn't even start talking much until shortly before his 2nd birthday and he quickly learned his colours and counting to 10 within a few months of that with very little guidance. He had an older sibling sure, but the older one was speaking far better than that far earlier! But both were speaking better than Oliver by 2.5.
Again, this is with little instruction and mostly just talking to him and using learning apps.
The fact is that Oliver is going to attend a private school that isn't likely to have a wide range of skills. In all actuality, in that school he likely will be behind most of the other kids. Sure they might all just be ahead, but that isn't going to matter when Oliver feels and looks behind by comparison.
