I don't think the childrens' interests or desires have ever been a consideration in this family. Each child has a better chance now than ever before of having their voices heard, because they're on YouTube and even if Ruby isn't listening, hundreds of thousands of people are.

I will say I like and admire the Mormon tradition of developing your talents, which can lead to scenarios where entire families are proficient with instruments that they never dreamed of playing professionally. It is nice to see the Griffiths gather and do their little Christmas program, with even Dingbat Ellie accompanying Jackson on the piano.

My grandfather performed in a band in bars on weekends in his younger years; later on that translated to him and his sons (my uncles) setting up the guitars, keyboard, mics etc for holiday gatherings. Even the little kids would sing along with holiday tunes and country music. Those were the best years of our extended family's relationships with one another, and having a common hobby where all could participate was part of that. It was a fun tradition that I miss, but no one in our current generation has any musical ability or owns instruments. So it's fun to watch the Griffiths do this, and I think even if Ruby's kids don't enjoy getting up at the asscrack of dawn to practice instruments, being able to play will add enjoyment to their lives in the long haul.

But, since it's not a serious pursuit with the expectation of playing professionally, I don't see the harm in letting the kids explore another instrument, especially Chad. I could see him enjoying something quirky like the ukelele, where he could easily do covers of pop music, or even a harmonica or drums. These aren't "serious" or classical instruments, but could be enjoyable and add to family performances or whatnot.

They just put Christmas where they did to coincide with the pagan celebrations already going on. That's why so many "Christmas" traditions have pagan origins.

Was anyone else repulsed by Ruby's Christmas Day video? It was just a sickening display of gross materialism.

Abby was being a little beotch about her pile of gifts. This makes me wonder just how many of those gifts were sent by sponsors or even viewers. I guarantee these kids were not regularly spoiled with literally piles of gifts on Christmas Day before Ruby's YouTube career took off. The room was so full of gifts they could barely walk in it.

I didn't necessarily mind that they got a lot of gifts. The children have never had many personal possessions, so maybe now they will start to have things on par with normal middle-class children. Hopefully some of the wrapped boxes contain clothing. I think it added up to so many gifts because making up for a deficiency of personal belongings multiplied by six children, with the addition of two parents, is just going to seem like an overwhelming amount of stuff.

If the children already had tons of toys and clothes and such, then still received that room full of gifts, it would be too much. But Ruby withholds things, sometimes even basic stuff like underwear, until there's a holiday so she can call it a gift. We saw big items, but I'd bet anything that each kid got separately wrapped packages of socks and underwear, which all by itself would account for 12 packages. I can see how it would all add up. I would really liked to have seen, in a less chaotic manner, what all they got.

Personally I could have done without the tearful sermon.

I was shocked at home much stuff they got, but those kids deserved it though for vlogging all year and sacrificing their privacy for viewers.

I could tell that some of that stuff was from sponsors, there's no way she bought Chad a professional drone.

She'll probably do a haul with each kid this week, the kids will be home from school until next year.

dj i never give the phantom 4 to youtubers for free. i know youtubers with huge following who have had to pay for them. stef michalaks was humiliated on twitter when he asked them to send him one. even casey neistat said that he always paid for one each time he crashed his so if chad got one, that means Ruby bought it. people forget that Kevin is still working and this year he probably got a big rise in his salary.

i think each kids got apple products. i know Abby already had an ipod touch so maybe she got an ipad this time.

like someone said they will probably do a haul during the week. they all seemed happy. that was nice. i hope they get to move into a bigger house next year.

I really hope for the sake of the kids that they don't move into a newer bigger house. Especially after that morning-routin vlog where the kids were assigned to chours early in the morning before breakfast and school. In one of those routin-vlogs, Ruby kept Abby and Julie at home before school cause the chours weren't finished that morning and the girls were late to school as Ruby wasn't about to do the chours or let them get away with it.

Imagine if they get a bigger house (?!) Who will keep the house clean ?
I don't think Ruby will have the time cause she'll be busy homeschooling, vlogging, editing and other stuff.

It's really not my business but they could just fix their current house and reorganize the rooms maybe...(so the cours don't take over the childrens life).

To my surprise, I didn't hate the post-Christmas interviews. I even found Russell and Eve sweet, and y'all know how I feel about those two. Obviously Ruby condensed the show-and-tell aspect by having the kids show their favorite gifts instead of all gifts. This was smart for a few reasons.

On the DB thread someone mentioned their child fans potentially not understanding why Santa brought them soooo much less than Ollie. I could see this being an issue for Ruby's fans too, given how many of them are very young. Obviously Ruby's kids got some high-dollar gifts, but the way she filmed the interviews made the quantity per child seem less overwhelming, as opposed to the room full of presents from their Christmas Day vlog.

BTW, at what age do most kids stop believing in Santa? I guess I erroneously believed most kids old enough to be rabid vlogger fans would have been over Santa already. Personally I caught my mom making my basket that was supposedly from the Easter Bunny when I was 4 or 5, and the magic sort of died of natural causes. But I pretended to believe for several more years so I would keep getting gifts, lol. I have much younger siblings, so "Santa" was still visiting our house when I was in college.
