I’ve actually seen that happen here and there. Lol. You make some great points though so we don’t mind.inquisitive_mind wrote:hmm, is it normal for posts to duplicate like that. I post but it doesn't appear.

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
My God! They just spent over THREE whole minutes of their latest vlog filming Art and Janelle looking for a couple of hooks in the basement. Searching through every ... single ... drawer .... until they found them. How narrow are these peoples' live that something like that is considered vlog-worthy? That is one of the highlights of their day?
They are weird, weird, weird!

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
That's how boring they are. They have nothing else to vlog.
I thought one of the selling points to having a large family vlog was to focus on management of a large family...they spend more time managing all their too much stuff.

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
True. I think they value their possessions more than their kids at times.
Yet another blog concentrating on Janelle making bread rolls. Hey ... we..get ...it! You make your own bread! Show us something different for a change. They are becoming so boring. If this is their real life, then heaven help those kids is all I can say. I can't imagine living like that with the highlight of their day being a trip to the post office. Poor kids.

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
I also think they like to go to extreme lengths to “prove” to their viewers how “frugal” they are.
-4 squares of TP each potty break
-reuse the envelope with the stamp (and explain how to cover up the plastic “window”)
-rolls of paper towel that last a year
-reselling things that aren’t supposed to be sold (box tops)
-distressed items at THEIR bulk food supplier
-etc etc etc
I think that’s partly why they include boring 3 min basement searches.....we KNOW we have these, we’ve saved them for 15 years and Art recently painstakingly sorted through the basement.....look how frugal and resourceful we are!!!!! (Humble brag, you know)

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
I had wondered if the homemade bread thing was a nod to the quiverful movement those folks all have a bunch of kids and are strangely into making their own bread.
Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
Its just seems really weird to me. I understand Janelle loves to cook and wants to share that in their vlogs, but it is always the same things that she is making. If it isn't bread (how many times do they think people are interested in watching her knead dough?), it is cooking meat (usually cheap cuts of chicken) in the instapot and serving it up with cornbread that Charity has made. There doesn't seem to be an awful lot of variety in their meals.
Janelle always makes such a fuss about what she has to make for the meals too. She is constantly running around talking about WHAT she is going to cook, then discussing HOW she cooks it and how LONG it will take to cook etc. Just get on with it and make a meal for heavens sake! It isn't that hard! Her whole day seems to revolve around what she needs to serve for meals, and she never seems to think ahead at all. She did talk about menu planning a couple of times, but she never seems to sustain it longer than a couple of days. She wastes an awful lot of time because she isn't organised with what to serve.
I think their whole concept of time management leaves a lot to be desired really. The kids don't ever seem to be on a schedule and they all just do things as the whim takes them. If they ever have to be somewhere specific at a certain time, it is a major thing with them. "Will we get there on time?? It is a crazy day!!" They have absolutely no idea how people in the real world live. Their "crazy" days are what the majority of families just do in their normal routine. Janelle runs around without a plan for the day and Art takes SO long to do anything productive at all. The kids just sleep when they feel like it and there doesn't seem to be any nap schedule for those smaller kids. They are all constantly going to bed really late and getting up late as well. Just as well the kids don't go to school, because they would never get them there on time.
They need time management techniques and discipline in their lives for the sake of those children.

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
Imagine what they could do with their day if they weren't constantly managing the pile of stuff so it won't eat them alive or survive without a schedule. I bet the kids would mellow out if they had more of a schedule.

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
Curious on everyone's thoughts here. Do we think Janelle will have anymore babies? I don't watch them enough to know.
Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
I think so. She is only in her mid thirties ... hard to believe I think, as she looks and acts so much older. They have said several times that they haven't ruled out having more children.

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
For sure, they will have more if they can. I remember knowing they were expecting by how desperate she was to buy a big van. I knew it, I wonder if they’ll give signs this next time. I don’t usually pick up on these things so it was interesting to me.
Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
Is it a American thing to all get new clothes for Easter and make a big deal about dressing up? Every year they seem to carry on about how the kids have to be dressed up for the occasion and now they are out buying suits for the boys again. Gee it must suck to be one of the older kids in that family and constantly have those little kids dragging around after you and whining all the time. Charity and John must long to get away and have some time for themselves at times. I wonder what goes through their heads when they see other teenagers at the shops doing normal teenage things? They are probably too shy or embarrassed to even make eye contact with them.
Janelle going on about her "31" again. Gee!! Give it a rest! How many times can she talk about how to organise her background table? Who cares in what order she puts the bags? Have these people got so little to do that this sort of thing is such a big deal in their day?

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
Dressing up for Easter Sunday for church is pretty common. When my parents were kids you got a new church outfit and new dress shoes like little girls would wear light colored dress shoes in spring and summer and then go back to black ones in the fall. It was also one of the few times a year photos of the kids were taken. So that tradition has continued to an extent.
Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
Ok thanks. It isn't such a big deal to dress up for Easter at church where I come from. Maybe because it isn't spring here, but Autumn?
Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
Isn’t that interesting how things are different in different areas? I’m also in the US and we dress our kids up for Easter. We don’t always buy new if we have something appropriate to pass down. For us, it’s mostly because they sing on stage at church around that time. I won’t have my teen and 12 yr old dress up other than decent church clothes as normal. We stopped attending church for many years, we didn’t dress them up at all during that time.weed wrote:Is it a American thing to all get new clothes for Easter and make a big deal about dressing up? Also....that 31 “display” is usually so sad looking. She’s always so proud of how it came out too. If it weren’t for their youtube following she certainly wouldn’t be bringing in much income from that gig.

Re: Parsnips and Parsimony
Maybe.I think it's mostly a tradition held over from when people had to justify new things now most people have more than enough clothes so I see many moms buying their families matching or coordinating Easter outfits. I don't get it. It's also pretty common to get a new outfit or a couple new things to wear for the Thanksgiving-Christmas-New Year season.weed wrote:Ok thanks.
