I know, they're so dumb! I hate it when people try to force a schedule on babies. They're human beings they aren't all going to sleep when you want for how long you want. My 10 month old has a cat nap in the morning, a big sleep in the middle of the day and no afternoon nap. My son had 3 2 hour naps at the same age, morning, middle of the day and afternoon. So you wake him up for your own convenience? Makes sense.
And 7 months old is too old to me starting a routine now, you should have a routine from the start, follow your babies cues and work your routine around them. It's easy to figure out when they're tired and to set a routine around that.
