I just have to comment: I'm studying linguistics in school right now, and our lecturer explained a bit about first language acquisition. Basically, kids develop linguistically at different speeds, and while adult intervention (such as speaking with the child and encouraging them to speak) can help speed things up a bit, acquisition of a first language is largely driven by the innate need humans have to communicate. Babies don't learn their native languages through imitation, they learn it through hearing the language and picking up on the rules and meanings of different words. So I wouldn't blame Bryan and Missy for Oliver's delayed speech. Some kids speak at 8 months, some speak at 4 years. It varies hearing the language around him and even watching movies probably contributes enough to the environment necessary for him to acquire a language, all that's left is how soon will he feel the need to communicate?babyspice wrote:Kai from the Nive Nulls can already count to 5. I don't comment much here, but I read daily. It irks me that B&M don't correct Ollie when he says things wrong. Like I believe a while back he was eating a peach, and he called it an "apple". They need to teach him the proper word for that. They're just so lazy! Ollie is definitely delayed. All his parents fault too!cmm216 wrote:It drives me crazy! Especially in today's vlog when she was cracking the eggs. Ollie kept saying ball ball ball and all she would say is yeah it looks like a ball. Why not use that opportunity to say "that's an egg Ollie" and get him to say egg. She is the laziest mother I have ever seen. Someone get these two in some child development classes. Poor Ollie is so far behind because of THEM!babyspice wrote:Kai from the Nive Nulls can already count to 5. It was in the Nulls vlog today. He's 5 or 4 months younger than Oliver too. Re: DailyVacations Part 28
I think boudoir photos are great but not with your kid! #creepy.
I think it's completely inappropriate to give a dad sexy photos of mom for father's day.
I think Mithy fits the definition of narcissistic personality. My ex-husband had that and it's not curable. No pill, no way to change. I'd rather be married to a serial killer than a narcissist.
I'm not an expert on speech but I can think of dozens of kids Oliver's age that are better at communication. My granddaughter is only 7 weeks old and I'm already working on language with her both by introducing myself every time I see her and by narrating what we're doing. She mimics speech when we talk to her by moving her mouth and cooing. I'm also starting to move her hands to use sign language so she gets used to communicating that way. Her father (my son) has high functioning autism. He worries that she will have it as well so I'm using all the things I wish I would have done with him early on.
I obviously can't diagnose Oliver but it's so apparent that his speech is delayed. I couldn't even stand to watch the videos from the beach because I get so frustrated by his lack of speech.

Except he has been trying to communicate and learn for awhile now. At least 6 months ago he was talking to them and trying yo get their attention all the time. They would ignore him. I disagree that the speech isn't partly B&Ms fault. They read here, and let's not give them more excuses to deny the delay.imsobored wrote:I just have to comment: I'm studying linguistics in school right now, and our lecturer explained a bit about first language acquisition. If they don't talk to him unless they have to, and only have him watch the same movie over and over again, he won't advance as well as a child that has a parent talking/explaining things, and is exposed to a variety of words and sentences.
Look, I'm no linguist, but I believe speaking to your child does more than just "speed things up a bit". A child that is rarely spoken to is not going to learn as much as a child that is. My first son was speaking as well as Audri when he was 2. This was because we spoke to him all the time. In full sentences and no baby talk. Sorry, but there's no convincing me that he could have sat in the corner with us never speaking to him, and have spoke relatively as well, just a little later. I have a 7 month old, and I speak to him all the same. Guess I should be taking the easy way out like B&M and just sit him in front of the tv by that theory. Yes some kids will talk later, even if they are exposed to language, but that doesn't mean B&M haven't messed things up for poor Ollie.
They let him fall behind when he was an only child of two stay at hime parents (and only grandchild on both sides). Do we really expect things to get better for him once the new baby comes?

I'm glad you see the narcisist traits in her as well. I suggested that about 6+ months ago (when everyone was still too busy hating on Bry to hate Missy) and no one else really saw it. Things have really changed this year though!HeatherNancine wrote:I think boudoir photos are great but not with your kid! #creepy.

The sad thing is, that the child is the one that suffers when there are narcissistic parents involved. Poor Ollie . Missy will be certain to paint that pretty picture in the vlogs, but we really have no idea how bad it is behind closed doors.

Boudoir photos would make a great anniversary gift, not a Father's Day Gift. This just hows that she walsy makes things about herself! And honestly, they didn't need to share that with everyone...castrofreak wrote:Double post but her picture thing was SO selfish. I thought it was gonna be pictures of Ollie aand Bryan but NO.
Last year, I got my hubby a mug with pictures of our daughter and a couple of pictures of them together. I didnt even put pictures of me or me and her on it because IT WAS FOR FATHERS DAY.

Re: DailyVacations Part 28
My daughter is 3 weeks older than Ollie, she speaks 5-6 word sentences. She can count up to 20 and her vocabulary is so big I've lost count of how many words she knows or can speak. Ollie is definitely speech delayed.rdt1004 wrote:I always think about Audri from the nive nulls when I think of Ollie's speech. This is kinda of an exaggeration, but not far off, Audri was speaking almost complete sentences by the time she was almost 2. That kid can talk and she talks very well and it's because her parents actually speak to their children. Even Kai is starting to say more words and become more vocal. He'll be passing up Ollie soon.kmjones70 wrote:OT but I was watching Bonnie Hoellein's video of her son Boston talking. He's only 2 months older than Oliver and has a HUGE vocabulary. Re: DailyVacations Part 28
Uh sorry but say wha? Talking to, reading to, and teaching are a HUGE part of speech development. A child can't be plopped in front of a TV all day and be expected to talk. First words are always words that have been repeated over and over by the parents: mama, dada, hi, bye, nuh night, ball, cup, more, what's that, etc. The more words they begin to understand, the more they will feel confident enough to speak them.imsobored wrote:I just have to comment: I'm studying linguistics in school right now, and our lecturer explained a bit about first language acquisition. Ollie is almost 2 and is only saying the very BASIC words that most kids learn earlier on. Heck the main reason he is probably so obsessed with balls is because it's one of the few things he actually knows the meaning to! So it's comforting. Ollie is 100% ready and willing to learn and they barely give him the time of day.

And they're almost to half a million subs? When did the number jump up? Buying views again?
Re: DailyVacations Part 28
Is Bryan trying to be the next Jonathan Joly? Make it to 1 million subs by buying 95% of those subs.

To those saying that Missy and Bryan won't last:
I think you're wrong. They can't break up, because their whole fame is created by that perfect family picture. Both would lose a ton of follower because let's be real, they wouldn't have a divorce without a lot of fighting, so minions would have to be on one side. Youtube is their income.
(I'm not saying they love each other or are happy in their relationship. In fact, I think that they would already be divorced, if it wasn't for youtube.)

Re: DailyVacations Part 28
And don't forget... At the restaurant, Ollie learned that an egg was (surprise, surprise) a ball. Way to go Dad of the year!HelloSweetie1 wrote:BABY MAKES DADDY BREAKFAST RECAP (Father's Day Vlog)
Missy mentioned how Father's Day was about more than being a good father, but about being a good husband. She said he "helps her out" and made it sound like she does all the work even though she's pregnant and exhausted. She even says he can't be a good father to the baby right now because it is 100% her, so it's nice he helps with Ollie. (Bitch)
Her and Ollie then make him breakfast (so she can point out to us she can cook, which she can't because she later tells Bryan she had to look up recipe vids).
They take him breakfast in bed. Missy must've made her side when she left because it looks almost as if no one slept there!
The "thuper thpecial" gift for Bryan was 2 photos of Missy in a frame and one of her with Oliver. I guess she had a boudoir photo shoot... while pregnant. . She plans to do a video talking about it (can't wait).
They go to Mimi and Papas. Someone gave them a ride-on Jeep for Ollie, so it's (of course) at Papa's so he can put it together. Ollie hates it. Cassie rides it with him.
Papa opens his gifts, including a squirt gun so he Bryan and Ollie can play. Also, a chocolate alligator from Florida.
They show off a "cute" pic of Missy on Papa's lap. They decide to recreate the pic with Missy sitting on Papa's lap... Yeah, not cute. (She's loving all the Hollister attention).
The dads and Jimmy go see Jurassic Park while the women and Ollie go see Inside Out.
They go to the mall play place so Ollie can play! Looks like maybe B&M learned a thing from E&J..... Nope, there's Mimi and Papa there too
They go for dinner at Shogun because Missy's parents have never been and she's "thuper ecthited" to show them. (Poor Bryan).
Go home and Ollie falls asleep while Missy is changing him into a different tshirt and shorts... not pjs. Missy jokes about leaving him on the floor as his toddler bed (except I wonder if they really were joking or if they did leave him there and try it).
Bryan ends vlog alone. Princess is probably in bed early because she had a hard day on account of actually doing stuff.
To sum up.... it was a whole day about Missy. Just like any other day. Being a good father starts with being a good husband guise!
No Melissa... it doesn't. You're an ignorant moron!

Re: DailyVacations Part 28
I disagree that speaking to your child has no bearing on speech. My daughter was saying words such as thermostat and Afghanistan by age 2 because I constantly read aloud to her. She also spoke in clear sentences and I have videos of it. As I would read the newspaper I would read it to her and point to pictures while explaining it. My son is 14 months and says mama, dada, ball, pup (for dog), and papa. He also associates those words with the correct person or thing. He's not advanced just average. However, he is learning because both my husband and I consistently tell him what words to use. When he wants a drink we tell him "say cup" and so on. Granted, my kids don't seem to struggle with learning disabilities and I know that can be an issue for some children. I also know each child is different. Some parents do work with their kids but the child has trouble. I understand that. However, Missy and Bryan just don't seem to care. It's not hard to say the correct word of an object to him.

And Boudior is mostly implied nudity... Which is still too much for Missy
I think a better present would have been a Playgirl
Or you know... Something cute and sweet involving Ollie and Bryan... Because Father's Day is meant to show gratitude for fathers and father figures for all they do... Not about Missy being grateful she doesn't have to sacrifice her daily naps.

I was reading through their comments and my goodness their fans are a certain kind of special aren't they? I'd go nuts having to deal with them all the time. Bryan and Missy should really wonder why it is that their fans all seem like children and half-literate misfits.
