This conversation is fascinating really, and I've been thinking about it a lot. What's so interesting to me is that there was such a movement in the late 90s/early 2000s maybe to control what kinds of ads children were exposed to on television (i.e. junk food). People were worried because all the children's television programming that kids grew up with in the 80s and 90s was filled with commercials for McDonald's, coke, junky snack foods for school recess, and tons and tons of toys. And a lot of the families on sitcoms lived in nice houses and had nice things. But honestly I think this YT stuff is far worse, because kids are seeing seemingly 'real' ordinary people eating garbage, playing with millions of toys, living in mansions, and going on vacations every weekend, so of course they want to do the same. It's like they put all these child labour laws in to protect child actors, and advertisement restrictions in to promote children's health, and yet now, 30 years later, YouTube is getting away with the same crap.

PS: As I was typing that last paragraph of my last post...it hit me.
Maybe she won't understand right now if I tell her we're not watching YouTube families anymore...but will it be a benefit for her not to watch them. YES.
It's these moments as a parent that hit me hard. It's up to me and my husband to make the tough choices that our children may not understand or like, but WE know it's for their best interest.
Okay, lol...sorry, introspective moment early in the morning.
Goodbye YT Kids App

I stopped letting my 3 year old use the YT kids app because he wasn’t watching the good content available.... only the junk. There should be a way to set a favourites playlist and turn off the auto recommend feature, but YT doesn’t care. I decided to purchase a subscription to a children’s app instead.

My oldest is 10, and the most sensible boy I know. He never watched YT alone, and has no interest in family vloggers because he thinks they are shameless and wasteful. Everyone in his class are onto the Paul brothers now, and I’m proud to say that my son side-eyes them for it because he is able to tell the difference between genuine and for show. Not watching these people means that his strongest example of a functioning family is OURS. I’m glad I never let him free range of YT, and I won’t regret removing YT kids from my youngest’s tablet either.

Ugh. The Paul Brothers. They're awful. And a big part of the problem. Kids see them acting like idiots and buying multi million dollar houses and "Lambos".

I think it's great that "career day" is encouraging kids to think beyond the big money "professions". I mean, if a child really has a passion for, say baseball or singing, or even acting and the talent to maybe really get somewhere with it, yes, definitely encourage it. But the idle "I wanna be rich and famous and not really have to work for it" vibe that accompanies so many of these kids saying that they want to be a pop star or YouTuber just rubs me the wrong way.

Off topic a bit. So are the lumps going on a vaca? She was riding with Kelsey yesterday morning and then out to dinner with K&C last night. I thought they said they were going to have pre recorded vlogs. So if that’s the case, you’d think they would be up early. They’ve also been quiet on IG pretty much.
The vibe between Corbin and the Lumps was weird. Missy did say she was sick so that’s why she wasn’t holding June. Still don’t think they’re going to the Grammys

Off topic but whatever. When I was 4-9 I went to the river a lot with my dad. I was never allowed to stick my face that close to a fish, touch it without washing my hands and washing them again after. Sometimes it just bothers me how the boys are always sitting on the counters where the food goes, and stuff like that.

I'm sure poor Finn will be drinking out of that sippy cup until he's Ollie's age. Now that I'm thinking about it, I wonder how bad that's tolling on Ollie's oral health. I don't think I've ever seem him drink out of a normal cup.

Missy just "had" to go get her hair done....I mean she very rarely gets to spend some one-on-one time with her kids and she always has to run stupid errands and have her parents help her with them no matter what. You could tell the way Missy was taking out the hot cocoa this girl is clearly not used to doing any work in the kitchen - nobody spills that much!! The kids sitting on the counter with hot cocoa was so creepy - like is there no structure for these kids what so ever? Missy acts like she can eat anything in the world when her parents are around - but when it comes to Bryan she has so many problems even with a cake choice!!

God, he is so rude and egotistical! All she did was wish them a nice break! Everyone is saying this, Bryan, because you were intentionally vague about the break and how it would be handled...and when the minions are told you won’t be vlogging for 7 days and then see vlogs being posted - it’s confusing. I get that they are taking a break, but the viewers pay for their fancy house and fancy vacation...would it be so hard to let them know the plans? All he had to do was be a bit clearer in the announcement - “We won’t be vlogging, but we have some fun sponsored videos for you while we’re gone”....or, “We’ll be posting some extra footage of what we’ve been up to in the last couple days, but we won’t be vlogging our current day as we normally do.” How hard is that? These people need a PR person. Or a more competent one, if they already have one.

They (mimi and bryan) decided it would be better to skirt the issue so that it still seems like they vlog every day of their life without saying that because they know its not true. The insinuation of being a daily vlogger is what hurts them and real vloggers. At this point they are not vloggers.
