Re: 8 Puffy Passengers - Part #7
It looks like Julie had a nice birthday. I'm happy for her. I find Ruby especially obnoxious though with all her talk about how party planning makes her anxious so she told the kids she's not doing birthday parties anymore a few years ago. She seriously was so far removed that Julie hand wrote those little cards and other parents thought they were fake. Ruby, it's their freaking birthday! Don't let your neurotic tendencies get in the way of them having a special day! Birthdays don't have to be huge productions but allowing children to have a couple friends over for a sleepover or fun activity seriously isn't that difficult. They've come a long way from those family only birthdays where the kids got socks and underwear, but still have a ways to go.

Ruby told all of the invited friends not to bring Julie presents....and then was pissed that they had...WHY!! It’s Julie’s birthday and lord knows that child deserves all the presents in the world! And what sort of mother doesn’t want her 9year old to have presents! Am I missing something?

I’m sorry to bag on a child but Julie’s friend in the orange and black jacket looks like such a mean spirited child. She was surly during the whole gift opening and then she grabbed the parrot gift off the other girls and Eve.

eve will forever be the most annoying, she should have been in time out for the way she acted at julie's birthday party.

Where was this? I missed that. I have been invited to parties when i was a kid, that the parents said no presents.Lauralou_15 wrote:Ruby told all of the invited friends not to bring Julie presents....and then was pissed that they had...WHY!! It seemed strange to me the explaniation that Ruby gave for Julie's ring. As a reminder for Ruby that Julie is precious and should be treated as such. I've never needed a reminder that my
Children are precious. The way she explained it just really made it seem like she's really struggled to like Julie or somethjng. Very odd. Maybe I'm over analysizing though.

Lol. How can anyone take this lady seriously. She gave her 9 year old a ring for her birthday so she can be reminded to love her? Wtf... and to tell everyone that? Who is this lady, I've never in my life known anyone to need to be reminded to love their own children, she talks about it all the time!

Re: 8 Puffy Passengers - Part #7
This is a question, not really a judgment thing. It has always been a custom in my family (and it seems in many of my friends' families as well) for the children to get their presents from their parents and relatives outside the birthday party with friends. It was always sort of assumed that we wouldn't brag about what mummy and daddy bought us, I guess, and/or that we'd have the time to talk about the presents more thoroughly (like Ruby did, albeit weirdly, about the ring) without everyone else having to listen. Is that common practice? Not sure.
Also, I know now many many kids' parties in my area are 'no gift' parties or 'donation to charity' parties so I didn't think it was at all strange for Ruby to say that the kids didn't need to bring presents. In fact, I thought it was much stranger that they did so in spite of the request!

I loved seeing Julie beam with happiness and have fun with her friends. Often times we don't see Julie in this way and it always breaks my heart

I kind of understand the no gift thing. They’re a big family with LOTS of toys and junk. I didn’t watch the videos so I don’t know, but they could’ve just asked for books or something. Seems like Julie would like books and that doesn’t take up too much space.

Re: 8 Puffy Passengers - Part #7
I kind of don't believe that Ruby told Julie's friends not to bring gifts, she probably just said that to make it look good. She even said for herself, she had no parts in planning the party besides going to the store to get stuff. Julie handed out hand written invitations to communicate with her friends. Maybe Ruby told April & Davey that they don't need to bring anything (because they're friends and all) but he didn't listen. I don't believe her saying that she told Julie's friends from school.
Re: 8 Puffy Passengers - Part #7
I thought she said no gifts because she likes the bare minimum and didn’t want to be outshined by friends gifts.

What I wanna know is how could she tell them no gifts if she made Julie do it all? I mean yeah she could have said it over text but still, I think she deserves something she did make her do it all. I'm glad people showed up though.

If you really look at how much stuff the kids have, they don't have much. they get 1 or 2 outfits to wear, I have been watching since the beginning. The first thing that irked me was when in a valentines day video, that she normally doesn't celebrate valentines day with the kids, she's not really a gift giver, but decided to give them some spring clothes she was going to buy anyway and have a valentines party. She had to be reminded by her sister, that things like that show the kids she loves them.
Of all the kids, Julie is the one who is treated less than. The boys are in an entire different class, but Eve is the baby, Shari is the oldest, Abby is the favorite and then there's Julie, she's just stuck there in the middle, like she is just along for the ride. Ruby could have worded the ring speech better like "when you look at this ring, remember how precious you are to me"... nope, she was like, when I see this ring, I will remember how precious you are...(paraphrasing) Why would she need to say that, she obviously doesn't feel a connection to Julie.
I know Ruby doesn't want junk and clutter, but the kids have very little personal things. Eve has her stuffed animals, she will be given or will take the Parrot.
I would not be surprised if Ruby was the kind of mom that goes behind their kids back and gets rid of things just because she thinks the kids don't need them. my dad used to do that to me, and as an adult i feel often, I don't deserve things. Julie deserved every gift she was given, i hope she is allowed to keep them.

^ she literally threw eve’s fav stuffed animal in the dumpster because she didn’t listen to her. It was something fairly small too, maybe would’ve warranted the toy be taken away for the day, but not thrown in the dumpster.

Re: 8 Puffy Passengers - Part #7
Okay I have a few comments from the vlog on Sunday. Shari's message to Julie wasn't the nicest and at least Kevin seemed to have common sense about that, Ruby just thought it was funny :/ and of course Julie had to do all the work for her own party, I would really like to know what the hell Ruby does all damn day!!
Okay comments from today, Eve on the freaking counter and licking the spatula, even looked like the little girl next to the cake was grossed out (rightfully so) then you see Chad walking around on the counter (gross)
Eve trying to take that little stuffed animal and mom and dad both standing there doing nothing (you had one job guys) .

She literally threw away a pair of Shari's shoes without telling her a few vlogs back. I may not be remembering this exactly, but basically Shari found out when she needed to wear them for a field trip and Ruby had to admit she tossed them.callie73 wrote:I know Ruby doesn't want junk and clutter, but the kids have very little personal things. I know public transport and the infrastructure is different in the US. But to me it still seems crazy when people question stuff like that. Where i live you usually have to take the bus to the school that comes after elementary school, as there is no school bus (only in the most rural parts or for children that are attending some kind of special needs school) you start using public transport almost daily once you are 10. Depending on which school you choose you don’t have any friends with you. Where I live the ticket is valid 24/7 in a huge area. Actually you can even go to our neighboring country with it. Once we where around sharis age we were using it like crazy, going to all the places we could and even abroad for the day. As the school system is also different here, it’s not uncommon to have friends that live a bit further away (say a ~30-40 Minute Bus-Train-Tram Journey) and it’s just the norm to visit them using public transport even when you are on your own (going abroad and bigger things like that usually happened in a group).Aurielle wrote:I don't understand why they let Shari on the train herself. She seems relatively wise but can be naive at times and Utah is most likely considered a safe state but stuff happens man. Its not that hard for someone who has a plan.
