Re: Off-Topic Banter
Had my first shunt from age 1 until I was 15. Then had many revisions back to back from age 16 to 21..those years were no fun Things seem to be going well with the two shunts I have now. I still have migraines (probably 2-3 a month) but it's nothing compared to what it was a few years ago!
My obgyn suggested we do a c-section under general anesthesia. During that office visit he even pulled out his cell phone right then, called up his anesthesiologist he uses and asked him for his opinion and even the anesthesiologist suggest doing c-section under general. I am kind of bummed about that, I really want to be awake when I have a baby but this is the safest way. They are worried that if they do a spinal block instead, that I run a risk of losing too much spinal fluid, getting an infection that goes to the shunt, etc.
I know that vaginal birth for me is totally out of the question though. I'm sure that other women have given birth vaginally who have hydro but I get a massive headache from just trying to go #2 (SORRY TMI!!). From what I've read the pressure and pushing during birth can cause the shunt to malfunction and you have a big chance having to need a shunt replacement after you give birth.

Re: Off-Topic Banter
Yeah, I had heard about pushing and fluid and all that from research (what little there is), so I'm OK with that. I just hope I can breastfeed...people can breastfeed after C-sections and anesthesia, can't they?

Re: Off-Topic Banter
You can breastfeed after c-section with anesthesia It just depends on which hospital you have your c-section at and what their protocol is for when you get to see the baby after you wake up. Some hospitals let you see the baby immediately after you wake up/while you are in recovery. Other hospitals have you wait until you are out of recovery (which is usually around 4 hours).
Trust me, this is a big worry for me too. I want to start the bonding/breastfeeding process right away!

Re: Off-Topic Banter
Charles (my fiancé) wants to TTC on the honeymoon so around late October, pending my cycles actually work with me. I'm regular yet irregular; regularly 3 days later every month than my period tracker app says, haha. So I'm hoping for this fall, but part of me wants my first kid to have its own birth month out of our families meaning conceive next summer so the kid would be born in spring...if that makes sense. So we're still discussing it. what about you?

Re: Off-Topic Banter
We are shooting for next summer. With PCOS the best way to conceive naturally is to lose weight first so that is what I am working on now Plus I graduate from school this December so I would like to wait until after I graduate. I am crossing my fingers that I don't need fertility medications and will get pregnant soon after starting TTCing!
Also, I don't want to be hugely pregnant during the summer so getting pregnant during the summer is the way to go

Re: Off-Topic Banter
Yeah, my weight is another thing I need to work on. Of course all Charles says is it'll melt off and turn into a baby belly for me (he's been through it before, sort of) but I'm trying to make myself healthy, you know? As far as I know I'm without PCOS, so I'm hoping I keep that out of my system. And I'm already done with school (got done in 2010) so I have that under my belt. Planning on being a SAHM though because college degree + where I live = career suicide evidently. Oh we'll. I got my degree courtesy of grants so I had no loans to pay off.

Re: Off-Topic Banter
What kind of degree do you have (if you don't mind me asking).
I'm going into nursing so I hope I can figure out a good schedule for when we have a baby. I want to take as much time off as I can for maternity leave and then probably will do part time or PRN work. Even if I am full time, it's only 3 days a week so it's not too bad. I would love to be a SAHM though!

Re: Off-Topic Banter
I have a degree in Human Services (counseling, essentially). There was one place around here that did something in that field, but I just found out last week they are closing their doors...they were grant-funded and lost their funding last year and relied on donations for the last 7 months.ButterflyB wrote:What kind of degree do you have (if you don't mind me asking).

My fiance works for NASA though (but may be changing to our local electric company making somewhat around the same money if not more; he has an interview soon) so we live pretty comfortably. And he owns our house (that he got with his ex-wife but her name isn't on it thank God) so we're set there too. We almost moved to MD for a job at a nuclear plant but it was only a temporary position and rent up there for a 2 BR apartment was the same as our mortgage on our 4 BR house!

Re: Off-Topic Banter
How about anyone NOT TTCing/never planning to/doesn't want children???
I always feel like a minority around these parts lol.

I am in the middle of building a career and about to move out of state, so no babies for me

Why do you watch YouTube mommies if you're not interested in children?Littlewaltz wrote:How about anyone NOT TTCing/never planning to/doesn't want children???

Re: Off-Topic Banter
LittleWaltz, aren't you an Ob/Gyn? You could help these ladies that have hydro.
Also goosey, some of us are very interested in children, maternity, etc, but don't want them for our own right now.

I was more referring to the "never planning/doesn't want children" part of her post.
Re: Off-Topic Banter
Gotcha. Well, in defense to that, these women are quite a freak show and so full of drama. They just so happen to be mommies too, haha.thegooseiscooked wrote:I was more referring to the "never planning/doesn't want children" part of her post.

Re: Off-Topic Banter
I like children I am just usually very busy and I do not believe in day-care/having a nanny. If I was to have my own I would want to be able to stay home and raise them but bills need to be paid.thegooseiscooked wrote:Why do you watch YouTube mommies if you're not interested in children?Littlewaltz wrote:How about anyone NOT TTCing/never planning to/doesn't want children???

I started watching YouTube mothers for research (mostly the teens) and ran into a few of them I really enjoyed and a few that had to much drama around everything that it was kind of funny.
