My wedding is about a year away, and everyone I talk to is asking why I haven't found a dress yet.
But... Whenever I go shopping for clothes, I freak myself out and always end up crying.

I'm comfortable with my body, until I see the number on the tag. And then it literally takes weeks for me to stop obsessing.
I have BDD (body dismorphic disorder) and I'm freaking out.

Anybody have any advice so I could actually stand a chance in finding a dress? :(
You just haven't found the right dress yet deary! I promise when you find the right one (just like the husband talk), you will know. I hated my body in every dress and had this idea of a slim, thin dress, but man oh man. These hips and small chest was more fitting for a ballgown style and I hated ballgown dresses. I had to walk away from dress shopping to get over my initial love for vintage dresses.

When I put on the dress I wore on my wedding day, it just fit me and suddenly I was wearing the dress and not the dress wearing me. I loved it, absolutely loved it. I could honestly see myself walking down the aisle in it, and I knew it was the one.

Don't give up, and you'll find one!! <3 <3

Those kind of dresses are made sooo different from regular clothes. You'll have to buy it a bit bigger more than likely, just so it fits the way it should. Doesn't mean your big. Things just fit different (: my prom dress was a 14, and I was a size 8 at the time! You have to accommodate certain parts of the body unfortunately /:
They also suggest buying bigger because they can always take the dress down in areas where it needs to be more snug, but you can't really "create" more dress where it is too snug.

Have a friend go with you that knows your size. Bring post its and so she can slap them on the tag before you see the size. Allow yourself to see how pretty you are in the dress before you try it on.

Also, something that helped was I went to the tanning bed a few times to even out my skin. I went to the mall and had my makeup done and had a friend of mine do my hair in a formal way before I went and tried on dresses. Feel as beautiful as you can in your own skin before you put on dresses. It helps a ton!!

What type of veil are you doing? A long one? I did a bird cage veil and made my own. I brought it with me to the fitting and tried it on with my dress.

I'm looking to do a blusher. :)
And I dunno. I guess that's what freaks me out. I'm already bigger than normal and having to get a dress 3-4 sizes bigger seriously messes me up emotionally.
I'm not sure if y'all know what BDD is, but basically, I have a disorder where I do nothing but pick apart my flaws and I obsess over them. I obsess to the point where it takes over my life and I can't/won't stop focusing on it.
So I'm scared of that too. I don't want to obsess but I just do.

Do you want the material to be more like netting or more like tulle?

Definitely go get your hair and makeup done the day you try on dresses. Bring some pretty jewelry too!! It'll help a ton!

A netting blusher.

And I don't let other people do my hair/makeup... Because off BDD. I'll literally redo it myself. Or I'll nitpick.
It's awful.

I guess I'll just have to settle. I know I probably will.

Find me a style you like, and I may be able to help you out! ;)

I was weary of someone doing my makeup, but my god, I have never felt so pretty lol.

You can always get it done by a good makeup artist on a random day, and if you don't like it, then it's okay. Just wipe it off and try something else.

I made the flowers from fabric, and funny story. I made the whole veil and needed to "singe" a piece of thread that was too tiny to tie in a knot but couldn't be cut, so I put a lighter up to it and the WHOLE veil lit up in flames and was toasted in less than 2 seconds. I had spent hours on it and had to start all over, hahaha.

My dream dress is the dolly couture beverlywood dress.
But a 700$ dress is not in my budget, lol.

Your veil is gorgeous! Omg. I love the whole vintage vibe.

So pretty. I love the red nails and ugh. I hope my wedding turns out half as gorgeous.

I'm having a typical Florida beach wedding. But it's in November?
My colors are Tiffany blue and burlap, lol. Or khaki.

Thanks!
That dress is gorgeous!! What parts of your body are you most unhappy with? Mine are my hips and butt, and I found a dress that sort of disguised that. I had to stop thinking about what dress looked so pretty on other people and find what looked best on my body type.

Basically everything.
My tummy, mostly. It's not obnoxiously big. (I.e Mama June from here comes honey boo boo) but its just a trouble spot.
My arms, my calves, my face, lol. It's all a problem.

And it's bad because I want a specific dress.
Long sleeves or at least 3/4 sleeves, absolutely nothing strapless, an empire waist and short but no shorter than the tops of my knees.

One option to the "not seeing the tags" would be having your dress custom made. A student would most likely also do it remarkably cheaper.
