I see more white girls in adidas than any other culture. And a chain is a necklace. My family wears gold chains and we’re not white or African American.
OK fucked up with the Native American outfit, but this is not like that

She has a toy gun in her hand in the picturethey just posted on IG. That is not right.

yes I didn’t see that in the first post, I’m not a fan of toy guns in general

I wasn't a fan of the costume in the family picture, but putting a fake gun in there was over the top. They could have just put her in black and white stripes with a number on her shirt and called it a day. I don't really feel like they intended any racism behind it but they certainly didn't think it through at all.
Personally thought it kind of cheap to dress Levi in a purchased outfit but just throw on some of Alaya's normal clothes with a huge chain probably from Kyra's closet..

This. I don’t think they need meant harm. They are just naive and disconnected from the outside world. If she was going to be a robber put a ski mask or something with the toy gun. Not that outfit making her look like a gangster.

You run around wearing chains as big as Alaya was wearing?
I think people are overreacting about the costume. As someone said, Ive seen more white girls wearing a track suit like that than African Americans. I do agree with Kyra that people are being racist for linking the costume to the black culture, because I for sure didn’t see it like that. It was a halloween costume, there is nothing wrong with the costume.

It’s not because of the track suit. It’s the combination of the hat, chains, and toy gun. That is not a robber costume.

I will admit the chains are slightly out of place, but the rest seems pretty normal to me
I'm a little confused why adding the toy gun suddenly makes it wrong. The implication was that she's a gangster or thug or whatever all along, and everyone thought it was fine and even cute then. What do you think she was "arrested" for? Probably not for jaywalking. A weapon makes sense for the costume.
I'm personally not a fan of toy guns in general either, but I don't see how the gun changed the costume any more than adding a broomstick changes the costume of a witch.

Thank you. Not sure why this is so hard for people to grasp lmao.

It’s not hard to grasp. I just feel like people are overreacting big time.
Dying at the tweet below her rant asking them to vote on Nov 6th I wonder why youtubers don't feel the need to use their platform to encourage such things and bring about awareness unless its an ad(breast cancer month, urinary incontinence). They need not discuss their political view but bring about awareness.

Ehhh... I just disagree. It’s a cozy costume they knew she would wear. Kids that age are so fickle with costumes that I think it was smart to put her in her normal comfy clothing.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not trying to debate this here but constant associations of my culture with crime aren’t fun and are actually super hurtful but go off lol
I get that and I feel sorry for you. But I just don't associate that kind of 'style' with 'black culture'. In fact, where I live this 'style' is mostly associated with (white) teenage boys. In the comments you can see black people commenting they don't see the problem either, I think its very personal to where you live and what you have gone through.
Y’all are funny, especially Chloe. If Levi had a toy gun with his cop costume no one would bat an eye. But of course there has to be some issue with Alaya playing with a toy gun... which is bright gold and clearly a toy by the way. She’s dressed as a robber... without the gun she really IS just in a track suit. Some people just want to be offended.

Yes your exactly right. There would be nothing wrong with a toy gun and a cop costume. But what they did with Alaya is totally different.

I don’t want youtubers to talk politics. It does nothing and nobody is going to change anyone’s mind. If they want to say go vote that is fine. I do not want to hear what their views are.

I personally are very interested in politics so I don't mind. But having celebrities and youtubers reminding people to go vote does help big time. Certainly in countries where it isn't obligated.

I live in a majority black and hispanic metropolitan city and you see more of this street fashion ESPECIALLY the brand adidas specifically on white suburban boys and the “hipster” neighborhood college men. and most of the time i see those chains on eastern european men that i know.
they could’ve given alaya a bag with $$$ on it or something or a little raccoon mask, sure. but the gun and chain and the adidas track suit aren’t racist. if i could digitally eye roll i would.
