From an earlier post, I will paraphrase this with the idea they are fortunate to be able to have both parents home self-employed/great income, but do you think they are doing that well. I have seen on a few occassions they waited to make a purchase due to finances. For example, with their recent travel expenses they waited on the kitchen backsplash purchase and they stress how they pay most if not all traveling cost and my guess this includes Cullen's mother's air/hotel. Their channel growth is slow and Social Blade, who said to be on the high side with predicted income, isn't that great with annual income especially if you think of taxes they need to pay. I also don't see the additional sponsors like others.

Did they get a Graco car seat sponsorship? They would have been better than Bonnie, since they're doing ERF with Gaines, and Bonnie is pretty casual about car safety.
I was wondering -- and I don't want to go watch the vlog again, but when Katie was talking about buying a new monitor, did she say Brooks had been crying and she didn't hear him because the monitor was switched over to Gaines? I just don't get that in their little house. I always heard my kids crying. And my mom raised four of us without monitors. If I misunderstood, I am sorry. But there's a point where people are too dependent on technology. It's not just Katie either. Missy always has to have the latest and greatest monitor (although I know her motivation is quite different from Katie's) My kids always joke about my "mom ear" because I can hear things going on when they're trying to be sneaky.

She said that when she watched back the footage she saw that he'd been fussing/whimpering for a little while after she'd been in so I don't think he was actually crying (unless I misunderstood too!) I think if he'd actually been crying she would've heard him without the monitor

I agree social blade is a crap shoot, they list their channel as having an annual income of anything from $12.5k-$199.6k and Katie's channel is $323-$5.6k. Obviously you can't really glean much from that. They have about $4,158,720 views for the past thirty days plus 107,725 views on Katie's channel. Assuming they get paid $1.50 per thousand views, that's a monthly income of around $6399 before taxes and Fullscreen takes their share. If they make more like $2 per thousand views, that's a monthly income of around $8,532 before taxes and Fullscreen. But I've also read that YouTube's advertisers don't pay per view, they pay based on viewer engagement with the ad on monetized videos. So based on people clicking on the ad or watching the full ad rather than skipping it. If that's the case, I have no idea what YouTube pays based on those metrics. Plus factor in product placement and sponsorship. It's really hard to tell.

I don't work with YouTube, but quite a few sources out there say that YouTubers get paid based on how many people click on the ads and/or watch complete ads. They also say you can't monetize videos with copyrighted content, so I wonder why Cullen is editing in all those clips from TV shows and commercials? Presumably those are copyrighted. It seems like views and subscribers matter for getting sponsorship contracts, but I'm not sure YouTube pays anything based on views alone. I think once you have Google Adsense set up, you get a commission based on viewer engagement with the ad. I think the bulk of revenue is coming from affiliate marketing and product placement.

As an addendum to my above comment, I think the reason Cullen was upset over the movie trailer ad with the word "f*ck" in it even though they've had their two-year old saying "f*cking" in vlogs regularly for the past few weeks is because viewers were skipping the ad or not clicking on it, so it was affecting their bottom line. You can also apparently set up your monetized videos so that viewers can't skip the ads, and if you have a loyal viewership who will put up with that to watch the video, you can make more money.

Yes, i think they all do, cullen and katie included. My husband and i love our white noise machine lol He thought he would hate it at first but now hes the first to complain when we forget to turn it on.

I thought the issue wasn't with the ads being vulgar but yet YT had just rolled out all those new rules about what can and cannot be said in vlogs. I took his issue as not having a problem with the language per say, but having a problem with the fact that YT said you cant say XYZ and monetize the vlog but yet YT can still "say" XYZ in an ad that they can't control. Does that make sense? I'll have to check his twitter to make sure but, did he even say anything originally about it or did he just respond to Jared's complaints? (checking back he Rt'ed jared, quoted him saying they should on be on 18+ channels and Rt'd another person saying they saw the ad too. He didn't go on a huge rant or anything,)

I used to have a blog and I know it's not the same as YouTube but once Google Adsense was all set up you would get paid through how many people click on the ads, not by how many views/subscribers you had. (I never had google Adsense set up long, only 3 days max. )

Katie and Cullen discovered that when Gaines says "sparking" it sounds like "f*cking." So now they ask her to repeat various things on camera and laugh about it. When their team is playing Clemson, they ask her to say "sparking tigers." When she fell down the slide, they had her repeat, "that sparking slide." I would laugh about this too if it were my toddler, but I wouldn't record it and put it in daily vlogs. I think grand berry was over it and thought they were taking it too far.

Katie discovered when Gaines says sparkling it sounds like F*cking. So Cullen told Gaines to say Sparkling Tigers when Bama played LSU. This week he had her say some other sparkling things. It was cute when they discovered it. Now it's been there done that.
