Katie's instagram story of Gaines playing with her little stuffed animal is too cute.

They're an older couple who have had issues with pregnancies. I say it is smart planning so they wouldn't be looking at retirement and college at the same time.joshbritlexi wrote:I don't feel like giving them a view but are these crazies seriously thinking about having another baby already?

Aren't they in their early to mid-thirties? That's not an older couple. Even if they had their last child in five years and retired at 60 (which is early), all the kids would be out of college by, or nearly so.tratra58 wrote:They're an older couple who have had issues with pregnancies. Thank you! I think they are barely 30. I must be ancient at 39.fossilfinger wrote:Aren't they in their early to mid-thirties? That's not an older couple. It wouldn't let my quote, but I believe they're 33. They were mainly joking. She had her 6 week postpartum appointment and they were probably told they could go at it again. Katie joked and said we can start trying to get pregnant. They then reinforced what they mentioned a while ago about how they want to wait a year or so and see how Gaines and Brooks are together. They said they're in no rush to try and it could even be in 5 years, but Katie said they'd be old then.

In Auckland Nz where I live that would probably get a one bedroom unitrd_valo wrote:Wow. You really do get more for your money in the us. I would be super surprised if they paid more than $150-$180K for the house that they live in now in our market. I'm a realtor and doing a quick search i found a ton of 5 bedroom houses in the area avg about $500-800K, sure there are some at around 300k and even up to 1.3mil but avg is about 500 - 800k. Super amazing looking homes too, things i can see C&K living in. Also, i assume even without YT money, if C&K were both working full time this would still be the price range they would be looking in. Katie's family is old money, we have to keep that in mind as well.OnAPlaydate wrote:One thing I feel like should probably be thought about a bit with Cullen and Katie getting a new home is that they live in the South. Real estate prices are dirt cheap compared to other parts of the country. They can get a whole lot more for their money down there. While it will of course be more money to get a bigger house, it won't be on the level of Bryan & Missy, I'm sure.

I could probably get something not in central Wellington, but yeah a large part of the reason I moved here is Auckland has gone insane. Even renting something half decent there was pretty much out of my budget. Reading all the American house prices is making me sad!

I roll my eyes whenever I watch House Hunters or whatever home buying show on HGTV and the buyers complain about paint colors. I remember one woman threw a huge tantrum because the walls in the living room were a light gold/yellow and she hated it. Didn't matter that she could paint over it, she didn't want to buy a house with that color on the walls. Oy.Playsinrain wrote:Somethings like paint color, floor coverings ect don't matter to some buyers. Which as an agent i think is a great thing. Yes, repainting and doing some updates can make it an easier sell but if someone walks in a house im showing them and is like "OMG this color is horrible, no wa yi could buy this house..." Im rolling my eyes in head, paint is so easy to change and 9 times out 0f 10 the new owners are just going to repaint anyway, no matter if it was just painted.

Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
Personal: I have a good friend who got an incredible deal on a very nice house because it was decorated like an Old West brothel. The dining room had red velvet flocked wallpaper, and one of the bathrooms looked like it was painted with Pepto Bismol. And the fixtures were awful. Her husband kept saying "We can get rid of the wallpaper. Don't look at that. Look at the _house_". And nobody else would buy it, so they got it for a great price.just_me wrote:I roll my eyes whenever I watch House Hunters or whatever home buying show on HGTV and the buyers complain about paint colors. Re: Cullen and Katie: Family of Four Pt #6
That has never been the case with any house I've ever owned. The assessed value is always way lower than actual market value. Maybe Florida is just weird? For example, my current house has an assessed value of 160k but we bought it for 270k last year, and Zillow says it's worth 300k right now. I'm not complaining about lower property taxes though.Playsinrain wrote:If you are looking at Zillow or realtor.com or something similar, and the house does not have a listing price they are going off tax assessors value of the home, which can be 20-30% higher than what the home would actually sell for. Assessed value is always higher than market value bc they want to get as much as possible from you for taxes.just_me wrote:I think it's a given they'll repaint before putting the house on the market. Gaines' bright blue walls, the purple dining room, the red office... that would only cater to a specific set of people. I haven't paid enough attention to the rest of the house on what needs to be updated there.
Looking at a picture of C&K's house, the outside makes it look like a huge house, but from seeing the inside we know that's not true. It was built in 1999, sold in 2012 for $214k and is estimated at $277,402. It has 4 bedrooms, 3 full and 1 half bath.
Her parents house was built in 1910, is almost 9,500 sq ft and estimated at $1.4 million. If the price history is right, they bought it in 1985 for only $250k! The house on one side is estimated at $1.2 million, while the one on the other side is only estimated at $450k and it's for sale! And it has an Alabama red dining room. Maybe C&K don't need to repaint the office after all? lol Don't know what the issue is with the house, as it's been listed for 164 days already. I would wonder if C&K took a peek at it, but it's only 146 square feet larger than their current house, so it wouldn't really work for them space wise.
Personal - When they say a house not for sale is estimated at a certain price, does that mean for the age of the home, the area it's in and factored in that it has been updated? I'm curious because my mom's boyfriend keeps bragging how much money he's going to be able to see his house for (whenever he sells it). He paid $100k for it in 2012 and it's currently estimated at $206k. He seems to think he barely has to do anything to the house to get that price. 2 of the 3 bedrooms were never painted (from when they moved in). There is just primer on the walls. At least primer is white-ish so it's not that horrible to look at. The hallway and one of the bedrooms have a beige/tan colored ceiling. It makes the area look like it's caving in on you. The bathrooms had new faucets put in within the last 2 years, but the countertops and shell shaped sinks don't match with them. There are lots of areas where the molding (ceiling or floor) are not flush with the wall. If none of that gets changed... there's no way he'll get $200k for it. And whatever he needs to put into it, I don't think he'll get back. Not in this area.
Sorry for the long ramble. I get chatty late at night.

Lol, I get chatty late night too! I can't believe GrandDolly's home is only 1.4 million! It is a beautiful Craftsman style home and nearly 10,000 sq ft! Does that incluse the 2 bdrm apartment over the garage or the living quarters in the basement?just_me wrote:I think it's a given they'll repaint before putting the house on the market. So, any idea of the general area of Kelly and Jay's new home? Obviously I'm not asking for an address, as that is against the rules. But if anyone happens to know the square footage, number of beds and baths, etc, I'd love to hear about it!

I'm sure their home is lovely, and I would definitely love to see a tour, but ""nearly 10,000" square feet is a digustingly large house. That's ridiculous.

I gotta agree with you on that. Even with room for entertaining, that is an insanely large house.westwuff wrote:I'm sure their home is lovely, and I would definitely love to see a tour, but ""nearly 10,000" square feet is a digustingly large house. That's ridiculous.

I'm sure their families have money set aside to educate their grandchildren. In many families trust funds are established at birth or shortly thereafter, which is tax deferred. Also investments are made where as the divends are automatically reinvested so that when the childs comes of age they have some independent money.
