I feel like pitbulls are vicious dogs now, just because I was on a walk with my german shepherd and the pitbull attacked my dog and boyfriend :/ They both got bit but they are okay now. And my german shepherd was a little bigger than the pitbull too. I'm just scared of pitbulls now haha.subject99 wrote:hjl226 wrote: I love your signiture thing. Re: Tayler Tragedy part 15
I must but in on this. But I assume what you're saying is the loose term of "lock Jaw". When a pit bull bites that their jaw locks down and won't unlock no matter what. This is actually untrue. Their bite can be VERY powerful... but no different than any other big dog. There is nothing different anatomy wise and such than any other dog out there.thegooseiscooked wrote:Yep, I know what you are saying and acknowledge that they are mostly a loving and loyal dog.
However, time and time again here it has been proven that they have a temperament which can just snap and they change from loving dog into a killing machine. Not all of them but some of them. So much so that the government has made it illegal to breed them here.
And the problem with pit bulls is that once they have a hold of something, they don't let go, no matter what. They fight to the death. Other dogs you can control with a kick or hosing them etc. Not a pit bull. They don't let go. You're perfectly correct, German Shepherds can be bad too.
All kids need supervision around animals but I would NEVER have a breed that is known to be that vicious around my kids. I cross the street if I even see one coming. Because you just don't know until its too late.
On another note I do agree with you on how children need to be supervised around animals especially dogs. A few years ago a young infant (few months old) was left alone in her bouncer while her mother did laundry and their Chihuahua mutilated that tiny child.
"She generally gave herself very good advice, (though she very seldom followed it)."
Re: Tayler Tragedy part 15
Here's the take home message about pit bulls. They are simply just a more volatile recipe of a dog. They are just as sweet and gentle as other dogs, but you have to have responsible owners for a temperament like theirs. The dog owners can't be the one to light a match around that volatile recipe or a huge disaster will be eminent.
If the right type of care and training is taken with "aggressive" breeds, a very sweet and loving dog will be produced.

It's comparable to saying a shihtzu is a VW bug and a pitbull is a ferrari. You simply can not put someone behind the wheel that is capable of pushing it to its limit.

The owner made the dog that way. It's not like they're born that way.ilovecatsxD wrote:

I hate when people say Pit bulls and Rottweilers are so mean and vicious. I have two Rottweilers and they're the sweetest dogs ever. Do you know why they're that way? It's because we're great owners and don't train them to be so mean or so vicious.
Just my stand point on that.

Re: Tayler Tragedy part 15
I have a pitbull and a mini dachshund and if someone came into my yard uninvited, if I were them, I would fear the mini dachshund. People are so stupid when it comes to animal breeds and their aggressiveness. Pitbulls aren't born with a gene and aren't any easier of a breed to become aggressive! Chihuahuas are a way more aggressive breed then pits and way more territorial but I bet not many people would jump taylers shit for wanting a chihuahua even though there would be an extreme possibility of that breed biting one of her children.

I agree. I think Pit bulls and Rottweilers are both misunderstood.Funnybones wrote:I have a pitbull and a mini dachshund and if someone came into my yard uninvited, if I were them, I would fear the mini dachshund. Our weiny dog is meaner to kids then our pitbulls. He chases kids down the ally on their bikes. Our pitbulls are so overprotective of kids, a friend put her baby in a bouncy chair and he started crying so she reached for the baby and our pit shoved his way between her and the chair because he thought she was making him cryFunnybones wrote:I have a pitbull and a mini dachshund and if someone came into my yard uninvited, if I were them, I would fear the mini dachshund. Re: Tayler Tragedy part 15
Hmm..well Im not going to get into a whole thing and this is my last input into the matter. Where I live, it is believed that pit bulls ARE born with that gene and the breeding of them has consequently been made illegal.
I remember on the news a 2 year old was killed by the pet pit bull and the parents went on saying that he had always been so loving, gentle and protective. They were quite a nice, middle class family and were completely bewildered. He had not been trained to attack or raised roughly.....still didn't bring back their 2 year old daughter.
It's easy to defend them until something happens. That's fine, we can agree to disagree. You can continue to have your gentle, loving pit bulls and I'll continue to cross the street to avoid you.
Nothing I can say will change your mind, and vice versa. I just hope I never see you on the news wondering what the hell went wrong.

This website is the worst at using EXCEPTIONS to counter argue statistics.

If I worked my ass off to get something accomplished, then I "busted ass" to get it done.TWDfan wrote:What does it mean exactly?OhReallyNow wrote:

I'm not really sure haha.
The other term would be if you "bust someone's ass," such as beating them up.
Re: Tayler Tragedy part 15
Eek, that gives me the heeby geebies. There's a prime example of a dog who has no respect for his master and does what HE thinks best, rather than what he has been trained to do.hjl226 wrote:Our weiny dog is meaner to kids then our pitbulls. You can imagine he did it because he thought she was making the baby cry. You don't know for sure, it may be that he simply didn't like her and was defending his turf. Who knows? That's kind of my point, you can't put human reasoning onto a dog's actions.

And this type of protectiveness is not healthy nor a good indicator of a dog that won't snap.
