I didn't really think it was a status thing either. I personally don't care anything about phones, but my husband is a huge tech nerd and geeks out over things like that. Usually my phones are his hand-me-downs. He also goes to midnight premieres of movies and stands in line for hours to buy books he's excited about. It's a level of enthusiasm I can't really relate to, but as long as people can afford such things, I don't have an issue with it.

I also see Cullen upgrading a 2 year old phone as being different from B&M accumulating more toys.

Cullen is easily influenced by Bryan, but I think Cullen's family keeps him more grounded. I imagine Grandberry would smack the hell out of Cullen if he were a giant douche like Bryan.

I don't remember if they upgraded their phones last year, so I wouldn't call it a waste. With each update, the older phones get slower. Also, all of the competition has driven down the rates for phone plans. They usually go over that type of thing when you go in to get a new phone. Personally, my rates were cut in half and I have unlimited everything now. I had to give up tethering, but It wasn't a big deal. I hope C&K are making sure they're getting the best rates. They should be trading their old phones in for credit anyway.

The last time they got new phones was 2 years ago when the iPhone 6 came out. If I remember correctly, it was the day before Gaines was born or a couple of days before.

The Granddoc?dolly/Berry thing isn't a southern thing. ive never heard anyone use those types of nicknames for grandparents before i started watching C&K. Although i do know a BigMomma, Mudder and my kids call my stepdad (who is the only grandfather they know on my side) PeeWee.. lol

The phone thing didn't bother me at all. When was the last time that we saw Cullen spend any amount of money on himself on a new gadget? To compare him to Bryan that way is ridiculous. The last high dollar purchase i can remember him showing would have been Katie's push present bag. He's not one to spend money willy nilly on himself like Bryan and Missy... Let the man have his new phone.

I don't care. It's not the phone itself.I do care that they make such a big deal about it, as if it really matters what kind of phone they have. Are you ever actually impressed by someone having the latest phone? They are adults with families. It doesn't really matter what kind of phone they have.

I guess I saw it as being excited to get a new gadget, not thinking he was going to impress people with his tech. Bryan is a different story...he and Cullen are about as like as oil and water, though IMO!

That's a good point. I can accept that. I didn't know that their phones were two years old. That's pretty normal for an upgrade. But including Bryan and Jared in the vlogs was just silly.
If he hadn't been shamed by Bryan and Jared into going out and buying a new camera when his was perfectly suitable, I would completely agree. But for some reason, despite his being a better person overall, he lets them get to him.

I agree that they probably needed it,but I doubt he planned to preorder the second you could. Seemed like Bryan's idea......

If I could afford a new phone, you bet I'd have preordered it, even though I have an iPhone 6 in good working condition. There are really cool new features on the 7 and the camera looks to be significantly better. I just don't get why anyone cares whether they spend several hundred dollars on phones or not!

Still have no idea why you would think GrandBerry would care if her grown son, who is financially stable, takes care of his family and doesnt spend exorbitantly would have an issue with him buying himself a new phone. It's not her money he's spending, shes not paying his bills so he can buy a new phone, hell for all we know he bought her one too. To assume she "wouldn't be happy" is ridiculous. Your issue is that you didn't think it was his idea to order it that night, but yet GrandBerry is somehow involved in that?

I cannot stand that Cullen & Katie feel they need to order the latest iPhone when their current one's work just fine. It's such a waste of money. How not to be a DB. Step 1: Don't buy things just to be part of the in-crowd. There's not even anything new that's worth buying the new one.

I was 100% on board with the throwing shade and side-eyeing DB and E&J with some of the stuff C&K have been saying in the vlogs, but now I don't know. Cullen Skyping with Bryan, Jared and Jeff at 2am just to pre-order the new iPhone. Ugh. Would you really throw shade at people in vlogs and then video chat with them while pre-ordering a phone? Why the heck does Apple make people pre-order a phone at 2am anyway?

I either muted or skip through the first 2 1/2 minutes of the vlog so I didn't have to hear/see Bryan or Jared. Or Jeff the puppet.

Obviously I paid no attention upon seeing Bryan and Jared facetiming with Cullen about an Apple phone. I rolled my eyes and shook my head. However, I was under the impression that Cullen didn't order new phones and kind of made fun of the fact that back in the day it used to be a big deal. I was under the impression that Bryan did get new phones, because, you know, that is what Bryan does--he buys things. Bryan will be "The Conspicuous Consumer" until he runs out of money and out of credit. Did Ellie allow Jared a new phone? Come on, we know this "friendship" and cross promotion is going to continue. I agree that it is unfortunate and I don't like it. But I can live with the fact that Cullen has contact with these people because he is in the same line of work and they have had occasional good times as long as Cullen keeps it real in the vlogs and doesn't disappoint me on a regular basis.

Been meaning to ask, has Jared found his backbone? He's had every opportunity to step up as a parent and put a spin on his wife, yet as far as I'm aware, he has failed to do so. I really don't understand.

Okay, so I'm nosey. But I'm sure I could come up with a reason why Kelly and Jay's last home is related to C&K's new home search. Lol, what can you tell me about their last home? I only recall seeing everyone in the family room and they once showed the basement media area. Do tell!

Kelley & Jay's old house sold for $436,900 on July 15th. 4 bedrooms and 4 full and 1 half bathrooms. 3,000 square foot house on .51 acres of land. They bought the house in 2007 for $355,750 and it was built in 1993.

There's another vlog where they are in the kitchen. No idea when it was or what the vlog title was. I'm so helpful on that, aren't I? lol Sorry.
I'm dying to find their new house and see how different it is (# of bedrooms, square footage, etc).

We saw the kitchen when Jay pantsed Cullen, lol. That is a fair amount of appreciation for the South isn't it? I've seen the neighborhood in the drone footage, looks upscale to me. I wonder where the new house is relative to the old house, and so forth. Have to admit it stung to see the wrapping room changed into a dressing room, but I figure they can just create another wrapping room. It looks like the new house is all put together and furnished. It's been all of 5 weeks or so? As soon as you learn anything about the new house please let me know. I'm amazed.
