OKWe'reStillBehind: Part 9
Re: OKWe'reStillBehind: Part 9
Came to say I'm not a fan of the name. But I don't know why people are saying it's an Arabic name? Maybe people are getting confused because there's names that look similar transliterated, but they're not pronounced how Keira is saying Alaya at all.

I like the name, at first I kinda felt like it was missing some letters, but its really cute.
So I have the same name as Kyra (Its weird typing out your name), spelled and pronounced the same exact way. It does get mispronounced but it's not that big of a deal (to me), I usually just correct them or don't if I'm never gonna see them again. She won't have too much of a problem with pronunciation, if the people are from america.

I didn't know that, that's interesting... seriously, if you see my family which is quite big (when I reached 30 direct cousin I stopped counting) you can definitly see in that case that my ancestors must have come from everywhere xDACarATorchAJess wrote:Basically, if you know how science works, you know know that genetic traits are exclusive for certain races..Midia wrote: That's what I had in mind, he is mexican but he can have a redhead ancestor (I mean I am not sure, genetically speaking, that a lot of person are 100% mexican or french or whatever, because of everything that happened in history). My family come from Algeria but i know that my great grandmother was blond with green eyes (she was spanish I think), and my sister was also born with a red streaks in her hair, some of my cousins are blond with blue eyes (but their parents are brown), weidly compared with my sisters and parents, my skintone is lighter and my hair tends to turn auburn in the sun, I guess that's the beauty of mixity in your genenealogy (I have no idea what my children will look like )
Anyway, personnal story is over, I wouldn't be surprised that Oscar has the gene
I really hope we won't wait too long to see the birth vlog! I really want to see more of the baby and also I want to see Levi meeting her!

Correction: I meant "aren't exclusive"ACarATorchAJess wrote:Basically, if you know how science works, you know know that genetic traits are exclusive for certain races..Midia wrote:That's what I had in mind, he is mexican but he can have a redhead ancestor (I mean I am not sure, genetically speaking, that a lot of person are 100% mexican or french or whatever, because of everything that happened in history). xD ok, I stopped studying genetics after high school but it's really facinating when you see some parents with their children! I am curious to see if Levi hair will stay with this colour or if they will turn brown- for instance- when he gets older! Same for his sister, right now her hair looks brown but she is a newborn so it doesn't mean anything for the futureACarATorchAJess wrote: Correction: I meant "aren't exclusive"

I don't think there's anything wrong with her name.
They can call her Laya when she's young, and there's nothing stopping her from going by something like Ali when she's older. I think it's a fine name.

Re: OKWe'reStillBehind: Part 9
Well... My friend's sister is named Alaya and its pronounced the same way as Kyra said it in the video? That's how I knew it was an Arabic name, I spoke to my friend about it. But maybe the pronunciation is different depending on the Arabic dialect? My friend is Muslim so it's def a Muslim name but maybe not all Arabs use it only Muslims do. I'm not sure what it could be but I know it's def a name used by Muslims at least. It also has different meanings in different cultures and possibly different pronunciations so who knows.Sarai wrote:Came to say I'm not a fan of the name. Levi is for sure a cute kid so I think his sister is going to be too

Mexican isn't a race, there's many races of Mexicans just like there's many races of Americans. Oscar is a white Mexican so I don't see why he couldn't have the gene

Re: OKWe'reStillBehind: Part 9
I actually like the name Alaya...and it flows with Levi's name...
Levi's name is from the bible , it's a Hebrew name ( in Hebrew it's pronounced Le-vee)
And the name Alaya has a similar name in Hebrew that pronounce Ali-yah and it's meaning is "my god Jah/yah "(short form of gods name in the bible )so i think the name is cute no matter how you pronounce it and it goes well with Levi's name..

No, there's only one way to pronounce the name because how it's written in Arabic. And if you're saying the name is the same Aalia/Aaliyah from Arabic, it's not. There's several different transliterations but it's written with the letter 'ain (a throaty sound) not a traditional "a" sound to start with and there is no long vowel in the middle. They're saying it uh-lay-uh. If it was the Arabic name it would be pronounced like 'all-yah (remember beginning vowel is not traditional A). Therefore it's not the same name. They made it up or are mispronouncing it horribly.juststardust wrote: Well... My friend's sister is named Alaya and its pronounced the same way as Kyra said it in the video? Personally, I do not like the name at all. I'm glad that it isn't Valentina or Novalee but I'm definitely not a fan of it. I can't wait to see what she ends up looking like when she gets around Levi's age!

Tbh Korina needs to make her personal facebook private. She posted some photos of Alaya and Levi (intended for friends and family) and random bug buddies have been commenting on it which, to me, is super fucking inappropriate and strange.

I don't even get why everyone always says Levi has red hair? Am I missing something? His hair is brown... does it have a subtle auburn tint in the sun? Maybe. But straight up red hair or calling him a ginger... nope.

Not once did I mention the names Aalia/Aaliyah so I'm unsure where you're getting that from. All I said is that my friend's sister is named Alaya (they're Arab Muslims) and they pronounce it just like Kyra did in the video. Regardless, I think it's a pretty name. Maybe you just hadn't heard it before? It doesn't seem common but oh well, it doesn't matter. Hardly like OK chose that name because of what language/culture it's from.Sarai wrote:No, there's only one way to pronounce the name because how it's written in Arabic. Maybe you didn't understand when I said Alia/Aaliyah/possibly Alaya are all transliterations of one name in Arabic. Maybe I haven't heard of it? Lmao I think I know my own language and culture better than you.juststardust wrote: Not once did I mention the names Aalia/Aaliyah so I'm unsure where you're getting that from.
