8 Passengers: Do Not Obey & They Send You Away | Part #13
Re: 8 Passengers: Do Not Obey & They Send You Away | Part #13
That’s so messed up that they made the decision to delete chads Instagram while he’s away and tell him in a letter ? He prob doesn’t even want to come home after that. Also with her logic she should delete Sherri’s too since she seems to be restricting her eating and valuing her “looks” above everything. Lastly I’m assuming Eve wet the bed by the disgust on Ruby’s face but how come when she refers to cleaning the mess she says the mess in “Julie’s” room. This lady is all sorts of messed up and picks and chooses which kid to protect based on her favorites.

Re: 8 Passengers: Do Not Obey & They Send You Away | Part #13
She's saying it's IG's fault that he is the way he is? Who got him his Instagram account? He wouldn't have more than a few followers if SHE hadn't put videos of him on YouTube. She's the one who had him pose in that stupid elf costume, and peeing in a water bottle in the car with his sister sitting right there MORE than once.
She's such a fucking hypocrite. She exploited him for a quick buck, and when he rebelled a little, (I'm assuming, because she won't really say why) she sent him away for someone else to "fix", while she pats herself in the back #mothersarepowerful. But apparently they have no power in the face of Instagram!

I don’t follow this thread and hardly watch their videos but Shari came up on my Instagram explore page and this picture of Chad is the first time I’ve ever seen any of the kids look like Kevin lol.

Wow - they expect Chad to be responsible and a "man", but are cowards and immature themselves. If as parents you come to the conclusion that your child should not have an instragram account, you do not delete it and tell the kid via a letter and let other people deal with the kids possible (and understandable) frustration. As Chad is not posting right now anyways they should have waited and told him about the decision when he is back.

You know what they've done. Kevin and Ruby have chosen Chad as the problem teen or child in the family and they are making money off of this family situation. I'd say a couple of the middle children are quieter, but the oldest and youngest daughters are undisciplined and disrespectful.
If you are going to take away Chad's IG, you take all your children's IG account and YT Channels away for the reasons Ruby gave. I feel they are in for a difficult time with Chad since they are trying to control him too much. Set boundaries, have consequences, and get off YT if this is causing problems with your family. I'm awaiting the showdown to happen when Chad returns home since I bet he still wishes to go to public school with his friends. All they've done sending him away this time of year is made it difficult to catch up with school.

This is what a parent or an adult would have done is to have a discussion with their teen instead of having a message delivered by a staff/counselor. It is is a surprise the counselor didn't encourage them to talk to Chad first.

Sheri eating in that video made me want to gag. She literally looks like a caveman learning how to use silverware. Ugh

It's a shame Chad has cowards for parents. Ruby is not a powerful mother at all! I was thinking more about it after I posted earlier hoping the plan back fires. I don't want anything bad for Chad. I do think they are controlling him even more than they already have. Parents should always want trust and respect from their children and the way to gain it is by giving them the same. They are not being respectful to Chad at all.

Personally they should have waited till he got back, then set down with him and talked about his IG account and made the decision together. I think you can activate it again so he may have something to say when he gets back!Acaena wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2019 10:55 am Wow - they expect Chad to be responsible and a "man", but are cowards and immature themselves. Why couldn't they go over the ones following him and delete those that he doesn't know or the ones posting stuff they didn't agree with from his acct. They can then make his acct where he can chose who follows him. You sent him to this place and they are supposed to have helped him yet Chad isn't given the chance to show them that he is different!
Re: 8 Passengers: Do Not Obey & They Send You Away | Part #13
I know that this is a old topic that was probably talked about a lot on here but since R&K deleted Chad's instagram account I figured it's related. I have a huge problem with the fact they give there kids the "freedom" of having a phone but heavily monitor/track what they do on them. I understand the internet is a scary place for parents and I'm not trying to downplay that but there's also something to be said for letting them learn to use it on thier own and come to them if something makes them uncomfortable. When I was 16 I got myself in to a dangerous situation with someone that lived in my city and lied about his age. It would've been really easy for my parents to track my internet activity after that but they didn't because they trusted me to come to them if that happened again. I just think that teenagers need a sense of freedom and having a phone can give it to them but being able to have it taken away for basically anything R&K deem inappropriate use/not being responsible and respectful in other parts of your life sucks. Maybe I come from a privileged place because I don't have kids and my parents were so understanding with me but I feel bad for those kids. Also my parents never had a set grade that I had to maintain in every class or I got something taken away. I kinda think that might add a bunch of uneeded stress on kids maybe that's part of why Chad is so unhappy as they say he is. Some kids just aren't academically smart but are amazingly smart in other areas.

I thought the exact same thing! It was EVE’s bed but brought Julie into it. I first thought bed wetting or throw up but I’m sure she would have gone and made Eve sleep on the bathroom floor and filmed it if she had been sick. Bed wetting for Eve wouldn’t be that big of a deal as she’s still a little girl but for Julie, Ruby doesn’t let her just be a kid and is treated like a older teen/adult so it could be considered really bad that Julie did that (although it’s not/she didn’t do it). This could lead to Bullying and Embarrassment for Julie if someone weren’t to notice it was Eve’s bed.Jamesjan6 wrote:That’s so messed up that they made the decision to delete chads Instagram while he’s away and tell him in a letter ? Oh great, I stumbled on these fools due to clicking a link on the Bingham ytmd.
*sigh*
The Bung-hams are cake compared to this train wreck mother. The manner in which she speaks about feelings and psychology is like nails on a chalk board.

I’m really sympathetic towards Chad in this situation because he reminds me a lot of myself when I was going through my teenage years. 14-17 was really my “bratty” years . I had the worst attitude especially towards my parents, I was mean, and probably by Powerful Mother Ruby’s standard I was not “humble” enough. Hell I was probably worse than Chad tbh, I was that high school student that actually would go to parties and drink.
Im glad my parents never sent me away to a camp. No parenting book needed, they just stood their ground, laid down the law and set boundaries with me. I turned out well, and I’m forever grateful they never controlled private aspects of my life.
Chad doesn’t need to cut off his toxic mom, but I hope he stays true to himself and just grows into maturity at his own pace not because anyone forced him too.
PS: if he does read here (which I doubt) It’s alright to live a little and enjoy your youth, Im sorry that you’re family is Mormon AF and cant have fun. ETA: very sorry that your mom only cares when she wants to exploit you for views

That dress actually looks really flattering on Bonnie. Ellie on the other hand, why does she have to dress like my grandma?

The comment focus on putting their lives out on YouTube that results in negative feedback. I bet Ruby is still unhappy YouTube comments were turned off since views went down. Ruby doesn't understand the IG comment was focus on the mental health of their family because of the exposure or some would say the exploiting of their children vs. viewers that see YouTube as entertainment and it is not related to personal responsibility or individual choice. Her response is nonsensical.
Let's see how things go with the new YouTube changes next year and Ruby can no longer focus on her children in vlogs to earn money.
@8passengers I don't know how your family puts your lives on YouTube/social media! I could never. The amount of backlash you're getting today just doesn't seem worth it. Mental health is a big deal. I can only imagine what people talk about at your church, school, doctor, grocery store, anywhere you are known. I am sorry this is all happening to you. I wish your family the best.
8passengers It is my special mission in life to be a support and advocate for mothers...even during the hard times.
@8passengers I understand, Ruby. I just worry that YouTube is the root problem that some families go through. YouTube turning off comments was a positive. I would read such negative comments on family friendly channels. But I feel that once children are shown on a channel, become known, then have their own Instagram/Twitter/etc, they are exposed even more. I am glad you deleted his account for his own good. It's a shame it had to come to that. But... why did it come to that?
8passengers Youtube is neutral. It isn’t the root problem. Lack of personal responsibility is the root problem.
@8passengers please explain that Ruby...youtube being neutral....
8passengers@------YouTube is a platform of videos. It’s not good or bad. It just is. If someone uses it for bad then it’s not YouTube’s fault it’s the choice of the individual. Re: 8 Passengers: Do Not Obey & They Send You Away | Part #13
Did anyone catch that in Ruby's stories, that Grandpa Griff just called to be a bishop?
ETA: With all these additional Insta-story comments, it seems like Ruby was implying that Chad was getting pictures of girls in various states of undress. Kevin bolstered this with his reply:
8passengers.kevin
@dawnmorris1107 Not all negative behaviors on social media are equal. Some can be overcome by the individual with time and maturity. However, there are some mistakes on social media that are more permanent can ruin future relationships. Once made, these types of mistakes can be very, very difficult to come back from. It would be irresponsible for us as parents to knowingly allow any of our children to make such mistakes. That’s like saying, “Hey, I think you should let your kid become addicted to meth if they want. They need to learn from their own mistakes, and eventually they’ll figure it out.”

I just don’t understand why they can’t understand that if they put the camera away and get off yt and social media and just live their lives in a private family setting, they wouldn’t have to be going through all of this. Just go be a normal family and shut shit down. Are they that narcissistic? Are they that greedy for money? Kevin can support them just fine...WTAF?
Re: 8 Passengers: Do Not Obey & They Send You Away | Part #13
Yep, that's exactly what it sounds like to me as well. And I suspect that Chad was responding to these girls in one way or another, judging from Kevin's comment. To be clear, I don't think that kind of behavior (or cheating on a school test) deserves getting sent to a wilderness camp. Ruby basically alluded to Chad's acting out as being his way of telling them he was fed up with his parents/the vlog/instagram/etc, and he lacked the tools to express it in a more mature way. That's what I suspected all along.Kattiness Everdeen wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2019 4:03 pm

I really hope she and Kevin understand that this will be an ongoing, sometimes gradual process of change and healing for Chad and his relationship with them. What he really needs is a private, non-religious therapist to help him deal with the combination of both the usual teenage issues and those that come with having an oddball like Ruby for a mother and the pressures of the family vlog. I'm a fan of Dr. Drew, and I can't help but wonder what it would be like to sit him down with each of the family members one-on-one and analyze them (besides the youngest two).
I also hope Ruby learns from Chad's issues and him finally admitting he didn't like the pressure from her to do Instagram as a realization that maybe her other kids don't appreciate being involved in the family vlog either, but just don't have the assertiveness to tell her. Well, Shari doesn't seem to mind the attention as it feeds her ego, and she seems happy with her own vlog. But Abby and Julie are clearly not fans of the camera or being in the spotlight. I can't imagine how those two sensitive girls would react to being on Instagram and getting random hate or sexual comments. Russell and Eve are still too young to really understand, and plus they were even younger when the vlog started so they've kind of never known anything else.
As much as I kind of like following the drama (like watching a train wreck) and find Abby and Julie to be interesting/fun to watch, I wouldn't be sad or disappointed at all if Ruby one day announced that they had made enough money and were shutting the vlog down to once a week or even entirely. I'd be really happy for those kids!
