OKWe'reStillBehind: Part 9
Re: OKWe'reStillBehind: Part 9
To me Alaya sounds like a mix of Leia and Aaliyah, which are both fine on their own but Alaya has too many a's to sound good imo.

xD i don't live near mexique either but I didn't understand the link between being Mexican and not having the gene (I was not offended just surprised by the comment no worry )sadie wrote:Lol idk sorry I know nothing about Mexicans I live on the other side of the world.Midia wrote:Why would Oscar being Mexican mean he is for sure not carrying the gene?sadie wrote:It's weird how Levi has red hair coz on the jess thread people were saying that both parents need to carry the gene? Oscar is Mexican so sure he's not carrying it. Is it like a mutation? I've seen African people with kinda red hair too.
You're right, I don't thing he has red hair but I wouldn't describe it as brown either more like light brown with a little something...? I read someone describe here his hair as "strawberry blond" but I don't know... I can just say it's a very pretty colour for sureblahblahblahhh wrote:I don't even get why everyone always says Levi has red hair? Am I missing something? His hair is brown... does it have a subtle auburn tint in the sun? Maybe. But straight up red hair or calling him a ginger... nope.

The baby is not foreign or Islamic though lolsofreakingnotok wrote:Calling a foreign name "made up". I'd say it qualifies.I'm not saying you're racists, you may not have realised how it comes across but it's definitely disrespectful.mac-n-cheese wrote:Racist...sofreakingnotok wrote:Alaya is not a made up name. Like people said back a few pages, it is an islamic name. It seems racist to me how some of you insist that it's made up,even after you've been told it is a genuine name, just not an American one. Just my two cents.
Come on...

Agreed. It doesn't roll off the tongue...
Like Taylers girls. Alesana and Anberlin.
It just doesn't come out of the mouth nicely...

Geez. No one is saying they know your culture more than you. She is saying she has a friend who named their daughter that and they are Arab Muslims. Interesting how you didn't even care to comment on that, even though you keep adding to this. I am Mexican and I don't know everything about my culture/language. There are new things to learn every day!Sarai wrote:Maybe you didn't understand when I said Alia/Aaliyah/possibly Alaya are all transliterations of one name in Arabic. Maybe I haven't heard of it? Lmao I think I know my own language and culture better than you.juststardust wrote: Not once did I mention the names Aalia/Aaliyah so I'm unsure where you're getting that from. All I said is that my friend's sister is named Alaya (they're Arab Muslims) and they pronounce it just like Kyra did in the video. Regardless, I think it's a pretty name. Maybe you just hadn't heard it before? It doesn't seem common but oh well, it doesn't matter. Hardly like OK chose that name because of what language/culture it's from.

With this logic most of the more "common" names like Sophia, Sarah, Thomas, Zoe, Noah, Ethan, Caden, Oliver etc shouldn't be used either? They are foreign names as well (and mispronounced from the original too)...

However the Mexican race is not 100% indigenous. Europeans infiltrated Mexico during the Aztec empire, and around 2/3rds of the race have European ancestors. So while typically they are not red headed there is a portion of the population who are and also those who carry the gene. Recessive genes such as red hair can be passed down for generations before matching up with another carrier and a red headed child is born.ACarATorchAJess wrote:Basically, if you know how science works, you know know that genetic traits are exclusive for certain races..Midia wrote:That's what I had in mind, he is mexican but he can have a redhead ancestor (I mean I am not sure, genetically speaking, that a lot of person are 100% mexican or french or whatever, because of everything that happened in history). My family come from Algeria but i know that my great grandmother was blond with green eyes (she was spanish I think), and my sister was also born with a red streaks in her hair, some of my cousins are blond with blue eyes (but their parents are brown), weidly compared with my sisters and parents, my skintone is lighter and my hair tends to turn auburn in the sun, I guess that's the beauty of mixity in your genenealogy (I have no idea what my children will look like )ACarATorchAJess wrote: Lol I have natural red streaks in my hair. My mom's mom is a ginger but my mom is half mexican with jet black straight hair and my dad's side is African American and Native American. I wouldn't be surprised if I have babies with red hair.

Anyway, personnal story is over, I wouldn't be surprised that Oscar has the gene
I really hope we won't wait too long to see the birth vlog! I really want to see more of the baby and also I want to see Levi meeting her!

Care to comment on what? That her "Arab Muslim friends" (if they even exist) pronounce their kids name wrong? Ok. lol She is the one adamant it was an Arabic name, and I was correcting her. There's also people in here who said it's racist to not like the name or something lmao. I'm just saying a name with that pronunciation isn't Arabic. Deal with it. Byeughpleasee wrote: Geez. ?? I didn't say foreign names shouldn't be used, I was just pointing out that it's not "racist" to not like her ~Islamic~ name when she's a white American kid with white American parents.mamaya10 wrote:bbygal wrote: The baby is not foreign or Islamic though lol

both my parents have brown hair. my dad has brown eyes and my mom has blue eyes yet i was born with bright orange hair and green eyes. the red hair faded when i was around 8 or so and now i have very light brown with red tints in it! he really could get it from any of his ancestors but it certainly is rare!
Re: OKWe'reStillBehind: Part 9
I do like the name, but I think I might need to hear it a few times to get completely used to it. Someone mentioned that it sounds like something is missing, and that is how I feel too. It reminds of the name Elaina but without the "n". It still like it though. I wonder if they will call her a nickname (other than mini-bug) like Laya or something.

I know I'm late to the car seat debate, but just wanted to mention how ironic it is that Korina actually has shared an article on facebook about a little boy who was internally decapitated in a car accident. It was a long time ago, but you would think she wouldn't have been that confident about front-facing Levi when she knows what the consequences can be.

"if they even exist" well in that case how do we know you're actually Arab you could be lying god what is your deal pull that stick out of your ass girl also there is not just one pronunciation of a name and just because they do not pronounce it like you do or how it traditionally is does not mean its made upSarai wrote:Care to comment on what? Oscar and Kyra had Levi forward facing a couple weeks before korina even visited.jackdaniels wrote:I know I'm late to the car seat debate, but just wanted to mention how ironic it is that Korina actually has shared an article on facebook about a little boy who was internally decapitated in a car accident. Oh, I didn't know! Just going off of how supportive Korina was about it.MommaLindsey2 wrote:Oscar and Kyra had Levi forward facing a couple weeks before korina even visited.jackdaniels wrote:I know I'm late to the car seat debate, but just wanted to mention how ironic it is that Korina actually has shared an article on facebook about a little boy who was internally decapitated in a car accident.
