I don't know either way if the church gave them credit to advertise the vending machines, but what the church gets out of it is good publicity along with pocketing a good part of the money from people donating & "buying." I would love to see the church's finances, but they use a lot of their donations towards real estate development & paying their leaders. All while they try to act like it's solely used to help members & towards charity. I wouldn't be surprised if Sam & Jen were given a credit to promote the machines.

So do you think the church is lying and pocketing the money instead of actually providing the things they bought? Like i said i really don't agree with the Mormon church on a lot of things, but i honestly hope they aren't that conniving and deceitful. :(

I still need to see this other vending machine with $210 on it before I go crazy assuming the church gave them money to give.

If they did it might make sense though, I bet it isn’t the first year they’ve given out money to advertise the church and make it look good. Might explain E&J’s sudden charitable giving a few years back with the envelopes?

If that is true it's pretty shitty of the church to encourage their members to flat out lie to their audience about charitable donations.

Could be a loophole? They give to the church, so technically the church could be saving it for them to give away at Christmas. We know E&J don’t consider things like that lying. The church may not either.

$210 seems like a very random amount though.

I'm sure they provide the services they're advertising through the vending machine, but let's say I would not be surprised at all if they were pocketing a percentage of the money. A lot of "charities" pocket large percentages of the donations they receive. Churches do this too with the tithing & donations they collect. I got into a mild argument with a former Mormon missionary in Park City about how the church uses the money they collect from members. He seemed to believe it was all or the majority was spent on humanitarian efforts when it's been shown how they build palatial temples, invest in money-making real estate ventures (like City Creek in SLC), & pay their leaders heavy incomes.

I digress, but to HelloSweetie's point on E&J's envelopes thing, it seems like the Mormon church comes up with a "charity" idea around Christmas time each year. You'll see a bunch of Mormon youtubers promote the same thing, which is nice to promote. It just reminds me of how creepy it is that the church so strongly dictates their lifestyles & opinions about so many things. I think Jen is more influenced by this than Sam, but I'm always disappointed when I see her have an opinion on something that is just a regurgitation of what the church told her to think.

I think it was on April and Davey. Either Instagram stories or their vlogs. I seen $210 also on theirs.

I guess i can see it being ok-ish that they use the money the members tithe to do thinks like build temples and pay salaries (sorta, i mean i'm ok with a preacher being paid, but there is a thin line between a living wage and extravagance when it comes to pastors) but i don't agree with them not taking the money donated and using it specifically for the purpose that the giver "bought" out of that machine. I feel like there needs to be more clear cut black and white lines when it comes to religious entities and how they use donations. Since they are tax exempt i guess they have no reason to keep records of those types of things, i would hope that they do, but assume they do not. It would be very easy to hide exactly where that money goes. But that's a thing with all charities i guess... unfortunately.

This is way off topic for Sam & jen, but kinda goes along with the current discussion, skip if you aren't interested...
I manage a lot of rental properties and we have this one couple who are well WELL below the poverty line. They have lived in our rental property for over 20 years and since we know they are on a very fixed income, we have never increased their rent, and have no intentions in doing so. Neither the husband or the wife have the mental capacity of, probably a 12-13 year old, and they both draw a check for disability (it was only the wife getting a check but the husband started drawing benefits this past year, and it makes me feel better that they have a little more wiggle room now). They are very religious people, and have hearts of gold. Neither one of them has very good personal hygiene, and i will admit that they smell terrible sometimes... On to the story... They had some repairs that needed to be done in their home recently and we sent our maintenance guys out to do them. He came back and told us that she told him that they had recently gotten "kicked out" of their church. When he questioned her about it she told him that the Sunday before, a deacon and one of the ladies from the church pulled them aside and told them they were no longer welcome there. Told them that they smelled bad and that they didn't tithe enough for them to continue being part of their congregation. My mother and i both were LIVID. There are no rules to tithing, you aren't supposed to have a certain amount to give to the church to be able to attend, there is no cover charge for services. These people scraped together $20 a month out of their EXTREMELY small incomes to give. This was all they could afford, and in my eyes that makes them one of the biggest tithers in the entire church. It disgusted me and enraged my mother. A REAL church would come together and make sure these folks had the things they needed to be clean and presentable for church services and would be more than humbled by the amount of money they give to the church. Would make sure they had a hot meal on the holidays and a warm place to sleep. But this "church" decided to turn away one of the most devoted Christians i know bc they didn't want them. My grandmother is on the local Baptist Association board (it was a baptist church) and we are going to tell her about this and have her bring it up at the next meeting. It breaks my heart and makes me livid that a church would act this way and turn someone away. It's absolutely shameful.

Aww! Jenn posted a photo of them going on the polar express. They all look so cute in their pajamas and Santa suits, lol. They're an adorable family.

There was a large "Mormon influencer" event - their words, not mine - in SLC to launch these vending machines. The church obviously supports LDS influencers because that means potential converts to the church and more members means more $$$. Don't be fooled, the Mormon church is a business that doesn't pay taxes.

As for the family I saw, it was some random vlogger family at the SLC event. Every year, LDS vloggers promote #LightTheWorld, and I'm sure they are being compensated for their #ADS.

At 1:54 in this video you can clearly see they have a $210 credit.

And, seriously, what does the Mormon church lose by giving members money to "donate" to promote the church and their charities? They are just getting the $$$ right back!

The Mormon church is shady AF!

That is disgusting. People obviously never heard of the Widow's Mite.
And good on you for not raising their rent. My own landlady is like that. Our rent covers her mortgage, and she only raises the rent when her HOA fees go up.

Hey! I’m mostly a lurker on this thread. Idk if it’s just me but it’s weird that they call PJ “sis”. Jen more than Sam. Why not just call her “PJ” or Penelope instead of “sis.”

It's a Mormon thing. All the women in their church are called Sister INSERT LAST NAME. Example, Jenn is Sister Anderson. They just call PJ sis because she's also technically Sister Anderson. You hear almost all the Mormon family vloggers use the term. Samika just uses it ALL the time.

Literally, every LDS woman is called "sister."

But men in the LDS church are called "brother" and nobody goes around calling Noah or Ezra "brother,". It may be an LDS thing, but it still seems that PJ's worth is in her relationship to her brothers. It's always bugged me that they call her Sissy. She has an identity completely separate from her brothers.

I sure hope they gave Sam and Jenn protective gear with the rollerblades. "Jenn Breaks Her Wrist" or "Sam Shatters His Elbow" might make for lots of views, but it would suck.

ya, I almost commented that on one of their pictures but... didn’t want to get blocked. Not sure if Sam & Jenn are as bad as other YTers with blocking the Haters but I didn’t want to risk it. Mine would have been the first comment on Jenn’s post too so they def would have seen it (I just happened to see it right after it was posted and before any comments.)

That's exactly what I was thinking. Wasn't it Jenn who just a few months ago had terrible, terrible back pain issues? One hard fall and you can really hurt yourself. Of course, it does look fun and I doubt they'll be doing any extreme skating.
