Re: C&K: Golf Carts and Thunderstorms. Part #12
Someone was asking how they're supporting their lifestyle on YouTube. I really gotta wonder too. Their highest estimate for yearly income is $186K, roughly. I assume that doesn't include sponsored videos, and whatever they make from ads on IG, but they are definitely not making DB kind of money. Or even E&J.

I'm still team trust fund..... I think they were living in the old house without problems with the income they are getting, but I think there was some savings they dipped into to buy the house and get payments in a range that was affordable for them. I don't think they are Willy Nilly spenders like e&j or DB. They seem to be smarter with their money and their house cost roughly half of what both EJ and DB's cost.

That is an amazing income for a southern household! Most people in Alabama live off of much less even with degrees...lmmomSD wrote:Someone was asking how they're supporting their lifestyle on YouTube. I really gotta wonder too. This is very true as well. Cost of living is super affordable compared to other places in the country. I don't think people take that into account either.MommaLindsey2 wrote:That is an amazing income for a southern household! Yes, I live in Texas. We make well below 6 figures, and live in a nice house in a nice neighborhood. We drive decent cars and we travel a lot (groupon is awesome)
If 186K is anywhere close to what they make, then that is a huge income for the south. I do not think they are struggling, IMO.
Plus they lived in their old house for several years. They probably had quite a bit of equity built up. My house has appreciated $60K in about 4 years. And it is much smaller than their old house. If they rolled their equity plus some savings into the new house, they could have had a sizable down payment. That with a 30 yr mortgage would keep their monthly payments down.
Again, this is just conjecture, but I think they probably saved a ton in the last couple of years before the move by living below their means. If they put that into their house, it would keep their monthly costs down which makes them able to afford a nicer lifestyle.

I don't think they are pulling in the views they hoped to once they moved.. But they also arent doing anything spectacular.
I think they are fine money wise. I doubt there's a trustfund being drained. I think there'd be a new music video if that were the case

Re: C&K: Golf Carts and Thunderstorms. Part #12
I understand that $186K is a lot in Alabama, but that's the highest end of their earnings. The rule of thumb is that they probably make somewhere in the middle. So that's closer to $93K. They bought the house and have done a lot to it since they moved in. And they did bring some furniture from the old place, but the new house is so big, it's needed more. Granted, they haven't gone crazy with renovations like B&M. Maybe they had a bunch of equity in the old house. But they bought a super expensive house for their area. It was at least twice as much as their old house. So even with equity and the house going up in value, they had to spend a lot. And I seriously doubt they have any savings _now_, and if YouTube goes away, they're screwed. They eat out a lot, and use a lot of services like grocery delivery. Those little things add up fast. I don't think Katie can run out and make enough to support the lifestyle she wants, and I doubt Cullen can. They're going to have to go from both staying home to both working. Mostly thinking that YouTube as it is can't support them in the style Katie is accustomed to. It's all speculation, but that's what we excel at here. And if people are saying that they've seemed to want some time away from each other, maybe money is causing their friction. It's one of the biggest causes of arguments. And when their "BFF'S" are throwing money around like it's nothing, and they struggled to get to 500K subscribers, I can see some problems, especially right after those friends fly out first class for the weekend and flaunt their cash...

Seriously eye rolling at "stranded" and "emergency."
As far as finances go, I've always thought they were living beyond their means. Their channel peaked when Gaines was a baby, and I don't think another pregancy would even do that much for them tbh. They're just straight up boring.

Re: C&K: Golf Carts and Thunderstorms. Part #12
Which is honestly why I don't care to much if they start pandering for views. Obviously I hope they never go down the path of The bums but like it or not this is the job they've chosen. So I definitely think they might start changing their channel to garner more views and income for their family. Their family is a business, and while ethics are a bit fuzzy in that area, it is what it is. Plus they're one of the few to actually care about the safety of their kids (i.e. hidden last names and attempts to hide addresses).
Idk where this has gone. It's a bit of a mess. But tl:dr; I think it would be a good move that none of us would like it they were to start changing vlogs for more views.

I was never a full on adoring fan and have always seen their faults.they were one of the few families I still watched. However, I find myself skipping their vlogs more and more since the last few I've been bored with.
It's rough, they either fake everything to be more exciting or do real life and becoming "boring". Either way people will be unhappy!

So many vloggers are releasing their last names. Just for a shot at more fame. DB never hid their name nor did the Mechams. Even though I object to vlogging children, and the exploitation that can't help but occur, at least these two are trying to protect their kids as much as they can

C&K: Golf Carts and Thunderstorms. Part #12
I wonder if the tension we noticed between them has anything to do with the fact that they rarely get any time together without the kids. And I'm not talking date night, or quick trips away. I mean daily time to just sit on the couch, or at the table to talk together. They are constantly posting snaps of the kids being awake past 10:00, and then I assume Cullen needs to start editing. And I doubt they get out of bed before one of the kids wakes up. Before kids they'd often have long chatty moments at night around the kitchen table, and now we rarely get that in the vlogs, so I can't imagine they do it much when the camera is off. They need more frequent down time between the two of them, and an earlier bedtime for the kids will help give them that.
I can't imagine how stressed I'd feel if I was around my children from the time I woke up, until 10 or later at night. I need those few hours after the kids go to bed to be alone with my husband to recover and recharge.

Re: C&K: Golf Carts and Thunderstorms. Part #12
I think they keep the kids up because they want them to sleep in. But once they start school, they're going to need to go to bed earlier.
You make an interesting point. A lot of us think there's tension because they're together too much, but not being together enough just as a couple is harmful too. Just everyday time to be together and decompress from the kids is as important as fancy date nights.

Cullen vlogging while driving again. Focusing on the dashboard alerts instead of the road. It won't matter if you have low tire pressure when you get into an accident.
And why do they shop at Sam's Club and Costco several times a week? They are a family of four with two very young kids. It's not like they have teens eating them out of house and home.
Overall another boring vlog, and this one's picture quality is awful. Half the time everything is out of focus.

Exceeded service by 224 days? Oh yeah. They take really good care of their cars.
I hate Cullen vlogging and driving. It makes me insane. But I have to admit that when he was looking at the tire pressure light, the car wasn't moving.
Granted, the Suburban shouldn't have overheated, but still...
I think they go to Costco so much because they're bored.
Gaines is so amazing. "Your Suburban overheated". And she's a year and a half younger than Ollie. But her vocabulary and expression is so far beyond his. I know it's not right to compare kids, but how can Bryan and Missy see her and not want to get Ollie evaluated?

Re: C&K: Golf Carts and Thunderstorms. Part #12
We always shopped at Sam's even when it was just the two of us and no kids. There are good deals buying in bulk even if you don't have a big family/older kids, and certain sales on different days which would explain going several times a week. Even a lot of the fresh food which would go bad if not eaten soon enough, you can freeze a lot of it. When we switched from shopping at walmart/local grocery to Sam's, we always ended up spending under out budget and didn't even try.askeptichere wrote:Cullen vlogging while driving again. Oh I understand the wonderfulness of Sam's Club. I'm a member, too. But they go multiple times a week. There's no way they need that much stuff. I wonder how much she drives that car now though. I know its not an excuse, but if shes not driving it every day like she used too i can see how it could go that many days over a recommended service. they should still stay on top of it better. It did sound like Cullen was giving her a hard time for not telling him all this stuff was going on with the car before now.lmmomSD wrote:Exceeded service by 224 days? Oh yeah. And i was going to mention that about the car not moving. At the most it looked like under 5 mph, they weren't buzzing down the highway like he has done in the past.
Gaines shocks me daily on the things she says and how mature she is. I forget so often that she is so much younger than Ollie. I swear their development could almost be switched at this point. He's more on her age level and shes more on his. I would be concerned big time if I were Bryan and Missy. I wonder what they will do when he enters a classroom and isn't at the top of the class bc of their laziness? I bet Missy is a nervous wreck about where he is developmentally. I also wonder if when they get Ollie into school and see how behind he is, if they will step up their game with Finn and actually have him better prepared than his brother?

Re: C&K: Golf Carts and Thunderstorms. Part #12
I think it's boredom, a quick and easy way to get out of the house and to get the kids out of the house and into somewhere air conditioned since it's so hot out. Sure there are a ton of indoor things to do with kids, but i can also get not wanting to go to the jump park every day too. For us, Costco is a 45 min drive, so we make lists plan it out and stock up when we go once or twice a month. If i had a costco closer too me, i would probably go more often. I also think they have the same bad habit i get into. Not buying everything i need at the store when i'm there so I'm not making a stop every day. I'm so bad about that. I go to the grocery store almost every day on my way home from work and its a bad habit.. I feel like they probably are the same way. They stop in costco bc they need one thing. then the next day open the cabinet and realize they need something else and make another trip. I think them both being at home also makes this more of a habit. It's not a big deal for them to drop everything at 2;30 on a tuesday to run to costco to grab diapers and something for dinner...askeptichere wrote:Oh I understand the wonderfulness of Sam's Club.
