J House vlogs is also a great family to watch (they do a few challenges once in awhile but most of the time, it's just regular vlogging, the kids are also super smart and fun to watch)lmmomSD wrote:Check out Knorpp and South. You know how much I hate most vloggers. They're an LDS family, with four boys of their own, and they adopted 5 Chinese kids, one a little girl with Down Syndrome. They travel all over. They're in Ireland now I think. They're real, and the kids drive the mom crazy, and they make education a priority.Theirmom wrote:What an obnoxious and boring vlog.
Are there any family vloggers anymore that aren’t overgrown children?
I miss boring adult things. I want to watch parents raising a family. Not spoiled kids and childish parents playing with toys.

He has always been so much more natural and relaxed with Cassie. It's such an incredible difference. She doesn't script him, she asks him open ended questions, and I can actually understand his answers. It's so sad that his own parents use him as a prop. If they just let him be himself, he would be much more pleasant to watch.cat9480 wrote:One of Cassie’s videos autoplayed for me the other day...and while I can never get those 8 minutes of horrendously stupid “squishy toy” cutting back (why is this even a thing?!), Ollie was so different! SO different. He was natural and happy and, dare I say, cute.Playsinrain wrote:It's getting to the point where Ollie sounds scripted ALL the time. It used to be where you could tell when he was parroting lines and when he wasn't, now i can't decipher between the two and not in a good way. Feeding him lines 99% of the time is having a negative impact on his already stilted speech. I feel like even if they did get him seen by a speech therapist they would undo everything he learned by sticking that damn camera in his face. Also, i wonder if Ollie has already developed his "on" character like his father has.

Oh, and I don't get the whole squishy toy thing either. Apparently, they're supposed to be soothing. Like fidget spinners.

I saw this on another ytmd thread but all YTers should follow his example. Bryan came to mind to me because this guy was on the voice. Nice to see a vlogger who does not want to live off his kids back. Skip to 6:09.

No, and let me explain why. Our Christmas consists of early morning gifts at our home ("Santa", Mom and Dad gifts), then over to my parent's home for breakfast and MORE gifts. On average, my two children receive 5-6 gifts from us. They are typically small, less than $30 each, and something we purposefully chose based on their interests and what we know they'd enjoy and appreciate. The excitement and happiness is REAL at our home. They take their time examining their gifts, oohing and ahhing over them, content to sit and play with them for hours if they could. But then we pack up and go to my parent's home where there is always a MOUNTAIN of gifts waiting. I try every year to make my parents NOT get them tons of gifts. Their excuse...none of the gifts cost a lot and they love buying tons of things for the kids. The experience is night and day from earlier that morning. They are overwhelmed, stunned, and none of the gifts mean anything to them because it's all cheap crap from the clearance section of Marshalls and Walmart that breaks and is loud and has 100000 pieces. It's a free for all and I hate it. I can't change it because it's not my house, but I hate it because all of the magic and wonder and gratitude is gone because no one has a chance to appreciate anything because everyone is opening hoards of gifts in 5 minutes and it's all lost in a sea of paper.
I try desperately to sit with them while they're there to help them appreciate each gift, but between my family constantly pulling their attention away by handing them another gift WHILE THEY'RE STILL OPENING ONE, it's impossible. I get angry, which I hate, and this year, we're not going. We're staying home. I love my family, but it's not what I want for my children. They're good kids and deserve a happy Christmas....but happiness does not equate to 100 presents under a tree that mean nothing. I told my mother that we'd love to see them over at our home on Christmas day, and that one gift is all that's needed. It seems cruel from the outside, I'm sure, but you have no idea how awful it's been. I'm not unappreciative of how much they love their grandchildren, but it has a negative effect on them and as their parent, I chose not to make that a part of their lives.

How many vlogs are we going to see that say they found REAL dinosaurs?
Ollie seemed really excited in today's vlog! It was cute when he thoght the bird was a pterodactyl (the sexond time. The first time seemed scripted)
Were they really allowed to be in that dig sight, or were the bones fake?

Re: DailyNightmaresBeforeChristmas Part #98
We have this same issue with my parents. They would always overshadow our family Christmas with a million cheap gifts. The light at the end of the tunnel is that i have noticed (with my kids at least) as they got older they enjoyed quality over quantity and my parents FINALLY got the point. Now my kids would rather get 3 nice gifts instead of 30 dollar store toys. Hopefully as yours get older your parents will realize that as well. It tougher to get 235 dollar store toys for a 12 and 16 year old than it is for a 2 and 6 year old. If that makes sense.Edenberry wrote:LONG POST, SORRY:queentee20 wrote:A lot of you are so quick to judge but do you ever sit back and think if you had that money, If you were in Bryan’s position, would you really do anything differently? .... Missy is posting a "Room Tour" of her filming _alcove_. She posted a boomerang of that stupid dance she does saying "I'm back!" I'll alert the media. I don't know about you, but I have been on pins and needles waiting for Missy's latest video and her new "room reveal". Not. More exciting mom "life hacks" that are actually just ways to continue to be lazy-- yay! Can't wait.
Gotta get more videos up to get more $$! What was that someone was saying about how it doesn't matter how much they spend because they're raking it in?

I believe the Mormon church got rid of the no caffeine or sugar rule because the members wanted to have caffeine and sugar. Some Mormons are also just more relaxed about things, like people in most religions.sarahelizabeth_1 wrote:I have never seen Carl and Jinger’s vlog but aren’t they Mormon? Re: DailyNightmaresBeforeChristmas Part #98
I totally get the desire to buy everything for your kids... my son is a year and a half old now and I really have to stop myself from buying him all the cheap plastic crap I see. And even then, the main reason I can usually talk myself down is because it's too expensive...I'm not sure I would be able to stop myself if I had Missy & Bryan's new money. I also have to say though, that my desire to buy him tons of toys is not *only* because I love him and want to make him happy, but also because toddlers are very draining when they're grumpy, and having him occupied by a new toy for an hour or two is a break for me!! Going back to work has really helped me, as now I know he gets lots of new toys to play with at daycare all day, and we are not so bored of his old toys at home because we are not home playing with them all day.
Anyway, in my mind, if I came into tons of money suddenly, I would carefully handpick a small amount of good quality toys for my son, and have it all organised nicely in expensive shelving haha. But yeah can't say if that would be reality or not.
Also just have to mention that some of the most "spoiled" kids I knew growing up have turned out to be some of the nicest, most amazing & caring adults ... but this has nothing to do with the fact that they were given every toy they could possibly want...they also happened to have amazing parents who cared about raising them properly. Throwing toys at your kids is probably just a symptom of bad parenting in other ways, not the sole factor that turns kids into poorly adjusted brats.

I didn't see the coffeemaker, but Mormons still aren't supposed to have coffee or tea - "hot drinks" are still banned in the Word of Wisdom. I'm guessing they have a coffeemaker for guests or maybe Bryan and Missy brought it? I noticed Missy appeared to be drinking her go-to vodka/cranberry the first night there, so I'm guessing they brought that too.tintin15 wrote:I believe the Mormon church got rid of the no caffeine or sugar rule because the members wanted to have caffeine and sugar. Jinger and Carl are the most annoying YT family - and have been since they started using the Shaytards for attention like six/seven years ago!! Maybe they are doing well now, but they seriously lived in poverty FOR YEARS while trying to make YT work for them. They are terrible parents!!!
Re: DailyNightmaresBeforeChristmas Part #98
I'm assuming Carl and Jinger don't drink (I don't watch. as you said, they're annoying lol), so isn't it a bit rude of Missy to bring alcohol when they're their guests? It'd be one thing if the visit were the other way around and Carl and Jinger were their guests, but I personally wouldn't bring something into someone's house if I knew they didn't like it.ewokfan11 wrote:I didn't see the coffeemaker, but Mormons still aren't supposed to have coffee or tea - "hot drinks" are still banned in the Word of Wisdom. Maybe Missy should drink more water, it seems all she drinks is hot chocolate and vodka cranberries, so much so that she can't do without either...

Ollie looking at the camera and waiting for his cue "look at this big...umm...cool mountains" - yeah god forbid this child actually use his own imagination and say what's on his mind for once! Then later he's just sitting there and is like "motorcycles are cool" - such a sad life for this kid!! Missy was wishing Finn would keep sleeping so she wouldn't have to do anything at all! This is the first time I've ever seen Bryan do something productive other than eating Olive Garden breadsticks and watching Harry Potter movies!

It would be suuper hard for me to do no coffee lol, I can totally do no alcohol but I would have had to bring a little coffee maker probably (or just visit Starbucks or somewhere similar super early in the morning lol) but I get what you are saying I believe some Mormons have pop, which I find crazy because it is really bad for you, I have seen some drink pop, hot chocolate and no caffeine teas.. Just not coffee or hot caffeine teas. (somebody correct me if I am wrong) the coffee maker could be to make hot chocolate? I have seen that done before.tintin15 wrote:I'm assuming Carl and Jinger don't drink (I don't watch. as you said, they're annoying lol), so isn't it a bit rude of Missy to bring alcohol when they're their guests? Re: DailyNightmaresBeforeChristmas Part #98
Straight from LDS.org:
The Word of Wisdom is a law of health revealed by the Lord for the physical and spiritual benefit of His children. On February 27, 1833, as recorded in section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord revealed which foods are good for us to eat and which substances are not good for the human body. He also promised health, protection, knowledge, and wisdom to those who obey the Word of Wisdom.
In the Word of Wisdom, the Lord revealed that the following substances are harmful:
Alcoholic drinks (see D&C 89:5-7).
Tobacco (see D&C 89:8).
Tea and coffee (see D&C 89:9; latter-day prophets have taught that the term “hot drinks,” as written in this verse, refers to tea and coffee).
No, Mormons aren't supposed to drink hot coffee or hot tea - yes, it's NUTS, but I'm not Mormon. In that clip with coffee, Jinger and Carl didn't even drink any. I'm guessing B&M brought the coffeemaker (a French press, which is really small) because Bryan needs his coffee. My other guess is that it's for some brand deal because it was SUPER random!

Yeah I used to be Mormon, no offense to Mormons but it was not my thing. I didn’t think Carl and Jinger were drinking it but they made it seem like they made it for them or something which was weird to me.ewokfan11 wrote:Straight from LDS.org:

Re: DailyNightmaresBeforeChristmas Part #98
I think that's what people have been saying. It's not so much the mountains of toys. It's the lack of instilling any sense of gratitude in the boys for what they have, or any sense that not everyone lives the way they do.twinklepink88 wrote:I totally get the desire to buy everything for your kids... my son is a year and a half old now and I really have to stop myself from buying him all the cheap plastic crap I see. Roman Atwood just did another Make A Wish kid's wish fulfillment. He picked him up in LA, flew him to Rochester NY to see a Nitro Circus show (Google it-- it's really cool). While they were in Rochester, he had his brother find them a new, wheelchair accessible apartment, and paid for them to get all moved in and bought new furniture for them. He took his older son with him on one of the Make a Wish trips. He is making much more money than Bryan, and his kids have lots of toys, but he's teaching his kids gratitude. When he gave his older son Noah a phone for his birthday, Noah cried. There's nothing wrong with giving your kids lots of things. But don't spoil them. Spoiling is giving them things without any sense of the value. Giving them toys instead of attention. Telling them they can't have something, and then giving in because they get mad. Life isn't fair, and sometimes they can't have everything that they want. They need to learn that. And Bryan and Missy definitely aren't teaching Ollie that. He's going to have a very rude awakening someday.
