This is exactly why I didn't weigh in. It's Cultural Appropriation and most of us know it. I'm not going to waste time arguing with someone that will never understand that and who has clearly already decided they just hate all of us and want to argue no matter what we say.Playsinrain wrote:Thank you Theirmom... Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
Okay, I just saw this comment on Bratayley's vlog from today. I feel like this is pretty much the mindset that Missy and Bryan have. 'Education? Ha! Our son is famous, he doesn't need school'
I know a lot of people say that Bryan is trying to be the next shaycarl, which I agree with to an extent, but at this point it seems like he wants their channel to be more like Bratayley, in a way. Just more kid centered, and with their amazing actor/model son Ollie. Finn who?

Yep-- me neither. I also don't go running around yelling "Erin go Bragh" on St Patrick's Day. Although I do have some Irish ancestry somewhere. My daughter and I do go to Old Town San Diego around the Day of the Dead, but we treat it with respect and do it to learn, not to be cool. And we're not profiting from it.MandyJ wrote:Well I don't because yes that is offensive and CA. It's not so much the actual use of the feather and word "tribe" for me. It's their cluelessness. They don't even understand why it might be offensive or wrong. When they made the dream catchers, they didn't learn about it. Or try to teach their viewers anything about it. They just did it, and said "aren't they cool?" Watch Ollie's room "reveal" from when they redid it with the Native American "adventurer" theme. Maybe then you will understand why we're so sure how they will set up the music video.

Well, that's 3 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. The title of the next thread should be "DailyMoneyMakerAndFinnWho?" It makes me so sad that they didn't include Finn in their song that's supposed to be all about their family. He says a few words, doesn't he? They couldn't have included something he could say? Not even a little babbling or a laugh? I'll never understand why precious little Finley is always an afterthought, and rarely included in so called "family" activities. I almost hope all of the Lumps' vlogs get lost in the ether so that Finn never has to see how his parents treated him like an unwanted stepchild.Strawberry26 wrote:Here is the link to the song for those who have not heard it yet.

Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
The Bratayley minions are real pieces of work. They think Annie is going to be the next Ariana Grande-- Nickelodeon star turned worldwide pop sensation, and she's going to marry Hayden Summerall, an IG "star" who is also 12. And the parents encourage it. And they certainly don't push Annie to work hard at school. It's so sad. Want a music career? Here-- we'll record some songs. Want to act but Disney and Nick won't hire you? We'll record a "series" and put it on YouTube. Want a horse? Ok. But we'll pay someone to do all the work. You can much out a stall once in a while if you feel like it. They're doing her such a disservice. Just like Bryan and Missy are starting out teaching Ollie that school isn't important. Trips and meetings at Disneyland are.PumpkinHead wrote:Okay, I just saw this comment on Bratayley's vlog from today. I feel like this is pretty much the mindset that Missy and Bryan have. 'Education? Sorry for the rant. I just get so annoyed with me way these people throw money at things instead of teaching their children to work for them. Bryan is doing it by example with his music. Instead of working hard and actually learning how to play guitar and taking vocal lessons, he uses autotune and probably pays someone to help write the songs.

Ok, seriously does he sing "take this shadow of a fart" in the chorus? Because I can't unhear that.

Ok the song wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm not an expert, never taken singing lessons or anything but I just feel like no one has coached Bryan on how to sing because I think he does have potential and a good part of the song he did really well but during the chorus he sounds like a creep. There were certain parts I just felt like he was using the wrong inflection. And I didn't really hear Missy, was she doing background noises? How was this a family song?

Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
With all of the autotune, you can't even tell Missy was in the song. It just sounds like a random women came into the studio, asked to sing, and they said yes because Missy couldn't stand 5 minutes without her phone!
I was wondering if the wierd high pitched voice from the beginning of the song is Finn. At this point, I wouldn't care if Finn was in it for a few seconds. As long as he's in it, and actually getting noticed, I wouldn't care.

Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
Yeah, I have to admit that it's annoyingly catchy at some points, like most of his songs - I honestly think that's how he sells the music he does. His singing is pretty average to bad, but the catchy parts carry him. But, I'm sure he only writes some of the lyrics (at most) and has very little to do with the music composition itself. As usual, he relies on other people'a creativity and talent to make him look good. (Well, "good." We all know he looks like an idiot trying to sing these ridiculous songs. Lol)sarahelizabeth_1 wrote:Ok the song wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Missy was that faint auto-tuned chipmunk voice in the background - Bryan overpowered her like crazy. But, she said she was nervous about it, so maybe that was intentional. Or maybe it was just Bryan being Bryan.

One more post for now.
At the part where they come in, and Ollie was at the dinner table in the background, am I the only one who heard crying? Also, every time I see Corbin's hair, I want to vomit.

Um, I certainly don't. And I think if you're being honest with yourself, you don't really believe that any of us behave in that way, either.queentee20 wrote:For you all bitching about cultural appropriation I hope you arent the type to drink margaritas and eat at a Mexican place for cinco de mayo calling it cinco de drinko because that is REAL cultural appropriation...
And once more, because it merits repeating, both the behavior that you described AND the behavior we're discussing with regard to the Lannings are cultural appropriation.

Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
Why am I watching this? Ugh. I need a support group! Today's video started with a talk about a super fun zoo game, where you can "interact" with the animals? This is while Bryan is going off to see Harry Styles or something? Everything is about how much money, how much stuff, how much fame, how much junk food, they have. No humility. This is nothing new, I know. I just can't believe I'm still watching!! Also, their song (apart from being awful) was cultural appropriation at its finest. Full. Stop.
Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
Yes, Bryan has potential. He can hold a note and his voice has a very contemporary Christian quality to it. If he learned diction, extended his range, learned proper body adjustments (good posture, open throat, smile, dropped jaw, etc.), and worked on diaphragmatic breathing, he could definitely have some potential. Unfortunately, I think he thinks he's good enough now and doesn't think he should work on himself (which all singers should, even if they've been on Broadway a dozen times or doing sold out concerts for twenty years). He only ever had a vocal coach during the making of his CD, but he should have one consistently...and one who doesn't let him rely on Throat Coat when his voice would sound just as fine after warming up. I'm very passionate about this lol I do think he would be better with a proper teacher and consistent lessons, but I'm not sure he has a willingness to learn.sarahelizabeth_1 wrote:Ok the song wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And as others said, Missy sings with Bryan in I think the chorus?? I only listened to it once, so I'm not sure if it's chorus or pre-chorus or verse or bridge lol I can't remember. Whatever female voice, that's hers. It just doesn't sound like her.
Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
I think Missy's very self conscious about singing. She probably wanted to be overpowered because she didn't really want anyone to hear her.cat9480 wrote:Yeah, I have to admit that it's annoyingly catchy at some points, like most of his songs - I honestly think that's how he sells the music he does. It could have been Bryan being a jerk lol but Missy was probably fine with it.
Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
It's definitely been a pattern of behavior for them for as long as I can remember, but at this point I don't even believe they are clueless about it. They read here, and people call them out for it comments. So they know, they just don't care. And that's way worse. It's just typical white people bullshit where they want to take from other cultures to seem "edgy" or "cool." It's gross, especially when it's sacred things like dream catchers, the term "spirit animal," headdresses, etc. Appreciating a culture is one thing, but there are respectful ways to do that, like purchasing a dream catcher from a Native American artist, instead of making them as a "cool" arts and crafts project for party favors. They are selfish try hards who don't give a shit who they hurt or offend in their quest to be "cool" they disgust me.lmmomSD wrote:Yep-- me neither. Re: DailyExcuses - Part #94
Oooh! Also, on a mostly unrelated note re: the defensive tone of the Lannings -- TOTALLY.
I mean, obvious crap lyrics aside, there's a lot of mixed metaphors going on in this song. Like -- the tree metaphor is fine and works and could have extended to an entire song -- especially since Bryan is into being Mr. Greenthumb right now. I'm not sure what they key deal is (aside from his whole obsession with keys). But what stood out to me most was the "defense" motif -- from the "protect within" line at the beginning to the mention of swords and shields all the way to the literal imperative: "defend it." It falls right in line with those people who believe straight, white Christian men are now a persecuted minority.
Now I'm off to watch today's video ... can't wait to see what cringey wonders await today ...
